Equine Treasures Description
Having horses and ponies all my life, I know how much the become part of our lives. This is why I started creating braided gifts from my own ponies tail hair to give personalized gifts to my own family and close friends.
From this people started asking me to make items from their own horses and hence Equine Treasures is now here to extend this bespoke service to a wider selection of people.

The History of Horse hair braiding is lost in the mists of time.
It is not unusual to want a piece of jewelry made from your horses hair,
Actually the use of horsehair has been found as far back as the Bronze Age in Great Britain and also in all the ancient cultures around the world.
Horsehair has been braided, woven or as stuffing has been used in textiles pottery harness, musical instruments, furniture etc. as well as in jewelry.
Every culture around the world has a history of braiding be from horses Sheep, Llama or any other animal. And in fact the Victorians preferred to make mementos from human hair, a baby, lover or a lost relative.

The Square Braid
The braid I use is to make the jewelry and gifts is made up of 8 bunches of hair. Which when braided becomes square.
Each bunch is actually made up of between 40 – 60 individual strands of hair. Yes I do count the individual hairs so each bunch is exactly the same width creating a lovely square braid even of proportions.
The amount of hairs depends on the width of bracelet but more importantly the finesse or thick ness of the hair
Example
For the 4mm width braid I need 8 strands each containing 50 hairs if it is from say a Arab but it would be about 30 hairs per strand if it is From say a Dales Pony who has thicker courser hair
So on average each 4mm bracelet will contain between 210 and 350 individual hairs.
Which is actually only a pencil widths hair
Tor the 8mm width braid then it is double.
