Wendy's professional background in Teaching has ensured that Evancliffe Leathercraft’s workshops have been developed with learning in mind. Each Workshops goals are achievable and they can be adapted to suite different learning styles.

History:

Evancliffe Leathercraft was set up and is run by Clive & Wendy Elsdon. They first developed an interest in leatherwork as an offshoot of Green Woodworking. The first leatherwork they undertook was the design and manufacture of leather tool guards and cases for many varied green woodworking tools, such as draw knives, spoke shaves, froes, carving knives etc. This lead to an interest in leatherwork in general and then enrolment on the first QCF Level 2 Creative Craft Leathercraft course at Northumberland College’s Hexham Centre. Both successfully completed the course.

Our latest version of the Dragon Bag is taking shape. Previously made in saddle tan with a green draggon we have made this one in walnut with a red dragon.
We have added other red details to the back as you can see. The stitching is all by hand and using a light contrasting thread.
The dragon is currently only placed on... It will be next to be stitched into place.

Three new 5 star reviews on the Craft Courses website for our Two Day Bag Making Workshop!

User

These are the actual #Leather bags made by four students during our first two day bag-making workshop over the weekend of 6th/7th October 2018.
There were a number of choices of design offered for them to make. Three of the four students chose to make bags based on our popular Railway TTI bag. It is amazing how different to the standard Black TTI bag these are when they are made in different colours and using different closures.
The remaining student chose to make a bag bas...ed on our popular tablet case which we often make up as the Dragon or Bat Bag...
Students on this workshop learn how to cut leather, hand dye ,hand stitch and how to finish the leather. Various types of fixings and fastenings are discussed and used on the workshop. The students also made a small coin purse as part of the introduction.
Our next two day bag making workshop will run on Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st March 2019 at our #Weardale venue. It is already half full with only two remaining places, so please book soon to avoid disappointment. The cost of this workshop is £185.00.

Our latest review on the Craft Courses website. This review is from a couple who came to us for a workshop to mark their 3rd Wedding Anniversary. Did you know that is your #Leather #wedding anniversary?

User

What a great we had today learning how to make different types of straps for our felt handbags. Two superb tutors welcomed us into their home and took us from basics to finished product in simple steps throughout the day, allowing us the freedom to explore our own designs and adapting their teaching accordingly. A relaxed, informative and productive workshop feeling the warmth of the sunshine through the window and enjoying the spectacular view. I will definitely be recommending to others who may want to learn similar things too. Thank you both. Lx

Ordered my carriage key holder a while back for a more authentic look and the fact I wanted a solid hard wearing product. After several months use I am not disappointed. The item is well made looks fantastic and has been engraved with my initials. The service was quick and professional. Would and have recommended to colleagues.

User

Never done anything leather working before and with Clive and Wendy's guidance produced a leather belt I am really impressed with. Both were extremely knowledgeable and demonstrated and taught the techniques in a really effective manner, really enjoyed the day.

User

My first ever experience of leather craft and in all honesty it was excellent. Clive and Wendy are very welcoming and great tutors. Working through the step-by-step process from cutting the hide to the finished piece was fascinating. Using the wide array of tools was very rewarding and the course has certainly inspired me to try some small projects.

All in all I am frankly delighted (and very surprised) that I have a belt that looks and feels superb, if I do say so myself.

A big thank you Clive and Wendy.

User

Just finshed a leather craft belt making course today. Was very interesting didn't realise the work involved and how l enjoyable it is. Clive and Wendy are truly very lovley people and showed our group step by step the making of a hand made leather belt from the sheet of hide to the finished product. This is definitely worth doing if your interested in leather craft.

Thanks very much Anthony
