Volunteers wanted to help befriend young people in care.
If you have spare time at the weekends, just three to four hours per fortnight, could you consider becoming an Independent Visitor to help a young person thrive?
Independent visitors give young people quality one-to-one time with an adult every fortnight, someone to talk to and do fun things with.
... Training will take place in Newcastle on 27 October in Newcastle but if you can’t make this date other dates will be available soon.
For more information contact Charlie Tolfrey or Jill Main at Action for Children on 0191 272 4990 or email at Charles.tolfrey@actionforchildren.or g.uk

A Gateshead landlord who rented out a flat despite it having rainwater flooding through its electric light fittings, and despite being served with a prohibition notice stopping him from renting it, and who then unlawfully evicted his tenant, has been fined more than £9,000.
Landlord Kuldip Singh Chahal, also known as Andrew Singh, of Elswick Road, Newcastle pleaded guilty to charges under The Housing Act 2004 and the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 after renting out a flat ...that had already been deemed by Gateshead Council to be too dangerous to live in.
When officers inspected the property, they found it had no electric lighting, no central heating system, and there was penetrating damp throughout. And as our video shows, there was significant water ingress through the light fittings in the ceiling.

NEWS: A Gateshead woman has been fined more than £1,700 for her anti-social behaviour towards her neighbours.
Debra Watt of Caris Street, Gateshead sent neighbours threatening letters, caused one neighbour to be falsely arrested, and repeatedly made unfounded complaints about them to their landlord, to the Council and to Northumbria Police, magistrates were told this week.
She also shouted and swore at neighbours, filmed them and sent footage of them to their landlord, threa...tened legal action against her neighbours, and persistently requested that one be evicted from their home.
Eventually, neighbours contacted Gateshead Council’s Private Sector Housing Team who served her with a Community Protection Notice, which she then breached.
She was subsequently charged with failing to comply with a Community Protection Notice and causing harassment, alarm and distress to her neighbours and magistrates fined her £770, with a £77 victim surcharge, £700 costs and £200 compensation to be paid to an affected neighbour.
