Ladies Day 2018 at Darlington Mowden Park was a superb event with some hilarious games played and lots of prosecco consumed! We met tons of amazing people from Darlington and as always, our cuddly sloth went down a storm. Wonderful to be included in the day.

Some of you may remember that last week a customer brought us in a stunning lampshade with pressed flowers, but was looking for a bit of an update and loved my mother's silver bouquet design. As we couldn't bare to take the older one apart, we had to start a fresh and we absolutely love the results. What do you think?

I am so excited to be taking part in Ladies Day 2018 at Darlington Mowden Park! We will have a stall there and we're excited for the good food, great sports and getting to meet more of the amazing Darlington people that make this town such a wonderful place.

Can you guess how old this lampshade is?
I'm always so happy when someone comes to us with with something unusual and different that they want us to work with. Last week a customer brought in this utterly epic lampshade, with flowers pressed all around the outside of the shade, bound together with a lovely vine-like strapping. The flowers are in impeccable condition and the craftsmanship is superb. It really reminded me of some of my earliest design work, which I'm going to be sharing throughout the week...floral fairies here we come 😉. For now, you can marvel at the wonderful lampshade below and the lovely lady who brightened up my day by bringing it in.

Over the past few months I have been working with Belvoir Castle to create some bespoke designs inspired by the plant life in their stunning grounds. These designs are now finished and the first has been used in The Fuel Tank Restaurant at the newly opened Engine Yard at Belvoir Castle, where last week I went to explore.

Drum Lampshade Workshops - 3rd October
Join Gillian Arnold for a fun packed evening of lampshade making and wow your friends with a statement interior lighting accent when you tell them, “I made it myself.” Set in our beautiful industrial modern and botanically infused shop in the heart of Darlington. You can bring your own fabric or choose from a wide selection of Gillian’s personally curated designer fabric collection. Gillian has been running professional workshops across ...the country for over 6 years, with a wealth of experience under her belt you will be in great hands.
What does the course cover?
You will be producing highly professionally finished lampshade from start to finish that you will take home with you, along with the knowledge and ability to make your own lampshades at home. We will also have take-home kits available for purchase, so you can carry on making lampshades for your friends and family for the years to come. The lampshade will be 30cm wide by 24cm deep and perfect for either a ceiling or lamp fitting.
What’s included?
We provide all the necessary tools, equipment and skills that you will need, so all you need to bring is your own fabric (optional) and a can-do attitude (mandatory.) There will be a selection of wine and non-alcoholic drinks available along with some delicious handmade cakes and snacks.
If bringing your own fabric
The minimum size you will be able to work with is a rectangle, 28cm by 104cm.
We recommend a fabric made from either cotton or linen and it should measure at least 1.1 metre by 30cm deep. Please keep in mind that if you are using fabric with a large pattern then you may want to bring up to half a meter, so you can get the best pattern for the lampshade.
Location/Parking
We run our 1 and half hour workshops from our beautiful shop on Post House Wynd in Darlington, which is newly refurbished with a cool modern industrial look and feel. Easily commutable by car, train or bus, the surrounding area is filled with wonderful restaurants, upmarket bars and lots of great shops, perfect if your wanting to turn your evening into a full night out.
There is both free and paid parking just a short walking distance away, if you would like some more information then get in touch.

Take Home Kits
Our kits come with an easy to follow instruction sheet, the correct size PVC, lampshade tape, a ring set and some tucking tools, so you can make lampshades out of any fabric you want.
20cm – £10.00, 30cm – 12.50, 45cm – £15.00, 70cm – £25.00
