RAV4 WINS BEST MEDIUM SUV TITLE IN THE 2020 4×4 OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has triumphed in 4×4 Magazine’s 4×4 of the Year Awards, named Best Medium SUV.
Announced today, the award reflects the all-round qualities of the fifth generation of Toyota’s compact SUV, launched in spring 2019. It also sustains RAV4’s reputation for market-leading success since the original model created the concept of the recreational SUV 25 years ago.
... Alan Kidd, 4×4 Magazine Editor, said: “The Medium SUV award category probably had more potential winners in it than any other, but the new RAV4 was a clear winner. Its styling is brilliant inside and out, it’s superbly made and it’s as pleasing to drive as it is practical. It came incredibly close to taking the overall win, only coming second behind a vehicle costing three times as much.” In its awards report, 4×4 Magazine hails RAV4 – an all-hybrid model – as “the slickest of all the current crop of medium SUVs,” praising its “modern, classy and well-made” appearance. The multimedia system, cabin space and ease of loading are all highlighted and the hybrid powertrains – front or all-wheel drive – are commended for their smooth and quiet character.
A “natural feel” in the steering and composed suspension add to the positives, together with the vehicle’s ability to automatically switch to all-electric power whenever possible – a key benefit of Toyota’s “full hybrid” technology.
Value for money is a critical factor, too, the RAV4 offering “a lot of kit for your money, as well as a very good SUV indeed”.
For 2020, RAV4 is newly available with smartphone integration as standard on all models, providing both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functions.

The all-hybrid Toyota Corolla Touring Sports has been named Best Company Car in the 2020 Carbuyer awards.
The consumer motoring website rated the wagon version of Corolla – launched in spring this year – as the top pick for business thanks to its all-round package of style, usefulness, efficiency and day-to-day affordability.
James Batchelor, Carbuyer Editor-at-Large, said: “2019 saw the return of the Corolla badge after a long hiatus. The combination of the stylish, practica...l Touring Sports body style and the efficient hybrid set-up is a winner for business buyers. Low ownership costs made it an easy pick for our Best Company Car 2020 award.”
Corolla Touring Sports is part of the 12th generation of the world’s best-selling car name-plate and has enjoyed a positive response from company car/fleet customers, thanks not least to offering a choice of two different hybrid-electric powertrains. As businesses look to move away from diesel and improve their environmental performance, Toyota hybrids – and Corolla in particular – have become an increasingly attractive proposition with their proven reliability, long-lasting quality and low, real-world running costs.
The 1.8-litre Touring Sports has an output of 120bhp/90kW and returns official CO2 emissions from just 76g/km (NEDC correlated; 103g/km WLTP) with fuel economy from 55.42 to 62.77mpg (WLTP, Touring Sports). The 2.0-litre option raises the power to 181bhp/132kW, enabling acceleration from rest to 62mph in 8.1 seconds. In spite of the extra horsepower, efficiency remains strong with 89/119g/km emissions (NEDC correlated/WLTP) and 50.45 to 54.23mpg (WLTP).
Benefit-in-kind company car tax rates are a key consideration – for the current financial year at 22 per cent for all versions of Corolla Touring Sports.
The car is underpinned by Toyota’s global GA-C platform which provides secure and rewarding handling with a balanced chassis, highly rigid body and low centre of gravity. The load space is designed to be flexible and easy to use, with 598 litres available, loaded to the tonneau cover and with all seats in place (2.0-litre model).
All Corolla Touring Sports and Hatchback models for Europe are built by Toyota Manufacturing UK at its Burnaston plant in Derbyshire; hybrid engines are from the company’s factory in Deeside, North Wales.

TOYOTA C-HR NAMED BEST CROSSOVER FOR BUSINESS MOTORISTS

The Toyota C-HR has opened its 2020 honours account with the Best Crossover title in the Company Car Today 100 listing.
... It achieved its winning status thanks to its combination of tax-friendly low emissions from its self-charging hybrid powertrains, low day-to-day running costs, good looks and lasting value.
Paul Barker, Company Car Today Editor, said: “Toyota’s C-HR deploys hybrid technology to deliver low running costs and excellent emissions figures, which combine with good residual values to tick the boxes that make for an excellent company car. It also enjoys cutting edge design and has recently been revised to make it an even better proposition, and well worthy of the CCT100 Best Crossover title.”
The CCT100 is presented by Company Car Today as a definitive list of the 100 cars that can fulfil any business requirements. The top models in each category are assessed on 12 criteria that are key to an excellent company car, including emissions, price, running costs, company car tax rates, practicality, desirability and the driving experience.
The Toyota C-HR benefited from significant upgrades at the end of 2019, including a shift to an all-hybrid line-up, with a new, more powerful 2.0-litre powertrain added to the range and improvements made to the established 1.8-litre system. It is the only crossover on the market to offer a choice of two different hybrids, ensuring it meets the requirements of a wider range of customers.
Although it delivers 182bhp, the new 2.0-litre system remains highly efficient, with CO2 emission from 86g/km (NEDC correlated data)/109g/km (WLTP data). Across the entire C-HR range, the benefit-in-kind rating for company car tax payers is just 22 per cent.
All versions of C-HR also now benefit from seamless smartphone integration as standard, via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
