great band played, good atmosphere and very generous of the pub to provide pie and peas within the evening free of charge. well done hole in the wall, visit is a must.

Went for the steak dinner I had won in a FB competition last night. It was relatively quiet, hadn't been before but I liked the look and feel of the place. The lad behind the bar knew why we were there and was pleasant and accommodating. We had lovely (comfy) seats by the window with a view over (a grey and miserable on this occasion) horse market. Had to ask for the table to be wiped, but not a big deal. Served a delicious Gin, with choice of Tonic and garnish and my hubby had an Adnams-very good pint apparently.

We both had the 16oz rib eyes (the prize) which came with chips, onion rings, a whole tomato and a choice of blue cheese of peppercorn sauce. It was delicious! The steak was nicely cooked (rare) and beautifully tender. The chips were homemade and tasty, the onion rings crunchy and the sauce was beautifully blue cheesey and creamy. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably the best steak dinner either of us have hadn't in a very long time. Thank you so much, we will certainly return.

Went for a late steak lunch yesterday. It came out exactly as I liked it. All cooked perfectly including the chips which were a deep golden colour (As chips used to be).



Another plus was the young fella behind the bar who made us very welcome and who couldn't do enough for us. I dont normally comment on such a thing but he needs congratulating.

I had Chicken Kiev a couple of weeks ago; not 80s Kiev, amazing piece of juicy chicken, dripping with garlic butter and lovely accompaniments. Today I had mussels and frites and it was the best meal I've had in a long while, along with two halves of the winter ale. Love it here.

Thank you for making us feel so welcome and for ensuring we had a lovely mini date night. It was very much appreciated. Food was delicious and service was top rate. Definitely a thumbs up. Thank you �

Had a Groupon offer for the 10oz Rib eye steak for two. We were not disappointed. Steak cooked perfectly, amazing homemade chips and real onion rings! Lovely staff and nicely decorated bar.

Groupon Rib eye Steak very nice, after our first visit in March, we've returned again in April and received fantastic service again from the lovely Lucy, she's super friendly and an asset to your pub �

Great music venue with a chilled atmosphere, excellent service and all with an astounding selection of beers and Gins! Used the upstairs room for a private party where we were served with a delicious choice of food. Totally recommend a visit!

Gorgeous old world pub, market place location lovely atmosphere serving real ale with friendly bar staff. Had the Groupon deal for the rib eye steak for 8 it was delicious can highly recommended deal of £12:90 for 2 diners will certainly return �

Fantastic mother's day lunch, delicious as always, definitely the best sunday lunch to be found in the town centre by far... thank you to the wonderful Laura and Lucy for looking after us... always love our visits to the Hole in the Wall... its our 2nd home... lol

I meant to give it five stars . It’s amazing . They know their gins and mixers . Served by a cracking bar maid who suggested a melon and cucumber mixer � and a great atmosphere. Thanks for putting up with our joviality on good Friday ��

Called as I enjoy a cask ale however disappointed that due to a busy weekend only one was on however it was a good ale. Bar was quiet however the two gents working were pleasant and helpful. Bar was appealing and clean. I ordered food which came quickley and piping hot... if in the area will definitely call again. Woild have been 5 star if I had more choice from the craft ales...

So disappointed was there early about 6.30 asked for a table told they were busy - no problem agreed to wait ordered food and at 8.15 after watching several others getting food who came in/ordered after us we had nothing so got our money back and left!! Will not go back! Everyone told us it was great well not for us and will not recommend. A disappointing experience

If i could award 0 stars, i would. There was a live singer tonight that we were really looking forward to after a family celebration. We all met at the hole in the wall at about 9pm to enjoy the live singer, which was brilliant. We were singled out during a speech by the 'dj' that told us to basically "f*ck off" after doing absolutely nothing wrong, telling our group to "take our christening sh*t around the corner" we were literally there 10 minutes with still full drinks. We felt very unwelcome to this establishment and after 50+ years between us in the business we have never felt so discriminated. They have genuinely put a massive dampner on our great day. We will not return to this establishment and we will recommend others to do so.

Food was lovely but customer service terrible probably wouldn't go back for that Alone - booked a window seat on the Friday came to Sunday didn't get a window seat 4 people stuck on a small table , got a pint of shandy was charged £4.40 for a normal pint to be told - well that's what it is , veg came out only brought 1 veg for 4 people when it's to share between 2 people as you could see from the table in front ! Also not offered any sauces with dinner , Bar maid also was not very helpful and just stared a lot so on that note shame the service spoilt a nice dinner
