A MESSAGE FROM OUR CLUB CAPTAIN
Last night marked the end of another season of Senior rugby at Houghton with the 1st XV winning the county plate in a closely contested game against Yarm. It’s been a good year for the club with 3 teams making it to respective cup finals. Disappointed we couldn’t make it 3 from 3, but for a small grass roots club this is a stepping stone to bigger things.
... Both senior teams haven’t had the league seasons they wanted, The DN2 curse raised its head, numbers dropped at training when the results didn’t go as planned and the injury list grew. This had a knock-on effect with the Boars and subsequently fixtures didn’t get played. But as we saw last night DN3 rugby can be very competitive and we need to work hard to get back to where we belong.
The colts did well in their first league season and will probably finish 3rd when all points are allocated. Sunday see’s 5 colts from Houghton represent Durham County v Cumbria in the final county game of the season. And two 1st XV players have been selected to play for the Durham Presidents select on Today.
As club captain I’m proud to be associated with Houghton Rugby Club and all the fantastic people involved in the day to day running of the club. It’s not always easy and there are many challenges associated with running a rugby club that players and members don’t fully appreciate, but we are great family club that play some canny rugby when we want too! 😎🐗🍺
