Volunteer Wanted! Suffrage in Cornwall Book - Would you like to help?
Published in 2000, Friends and Visitors: A First History of the Women's Suffrage Movement in Cornwall 1870-1914 remains the only book on the subject 18 years later. To mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918, and 90 years since universal suffrage in Britain, the Hypatia Trust has decided to republish the book with an updated introduction.
... We need a volunteer who is a good typist or copy editor to take on the task of re-typing this short tome and also proof-reading it and any updates that will be made. Working with our Heritage Lead, Dr Tehmina Goskar, you can volunteer to do this from the comfort of your home with occasional meets and telephone calls with Tehmina.
If you are interested in this project please contact Tehmina directly on: tehmina@goskar.com.

A historic day tomorrow!! In 2012 the Hypatia Trust launched a campaign called "A room of our own"-- inspired by Virginia Woolf's seminal feminist essay - to find a new permanent home for the Elizabeth Treffry Collection on Women in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, Just over 6 years later this 3000-strong collection of books and papers has finally found a permanent public home at the Morrab Library! Join us for this wonderful day if you can at 2pm, with tea later on.

On Monday 30th July, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Penzance grand-daughter, Emily Bronte, a special invitation was extended to primary supporters of our latest project: the reconstruction of the stable block of the historic Morrab House (now Morrab Library) to become The Gardeners' House Environmental Studies Centre. In parallel with the near completion of the new headquarters of the Hypatia Trust in Chapel Street, Penzance, this special event marks the beginning of a series of opening celebrations devoted to establishing new objectives in the life of the Trust and its many friends. Visitors from as far afield as Massachsetts, USA, Spain, Cambridge, Brighton and elsewhere were in attendance - and all readers of the Bronte literature & legends. Thank you all!
