I finished the first big hawk painting (I will take some good pictures soon) and starting a pile of 6 pet commissions including this lovely horse. I don’t normally work on horse commissions this small so it will be a challenge to capture his character but I shall just do my best! #sketch #horse #drawing #sketchbook #commission #wip

So close! Yesterday’s progress with this beast of a painting. I found the second hawk harder because I’m having to work at a smaller scale but nearly there. I managed to grab two hours on it at the studio then came home and started some pet portraits. I feel like a thief stealing time where I can to paint. I’d love a Bernard’s watch! What would you do if you could stop time?

And the wing beats go on... progress shot and a little video of the prorgress today. Hoping to convey a sense of movement when it’s finished so going to loosen some of the crispness to the leg and chest once I’ve finished the fiddly wings. Add some highlights and fine tuning then it’s on to bird number two! Do you like it?

Been plodding along on this today. Its starting to come together. In answer to my earlier post asking for any guesses I admit to being a bit mean. He’s a non-native bird. Ferruginous hawk from North America. Similar to a kite in terms of colouring but they remind me of falcons too. Gorgeous but lots of feathers yet to go! What do you think?

Sooo tired! My little monster has had a chest infection and has been poorly for two weeks. He’s turning a corner and seems chirpier today so I took advantage of Grandma time to get into the studio. Being cooped up was making me do daft things like sorting all my kitchen cupboards out at 11pm. Now I’m armed with tea, daal and chocolate and I’m bursting to get more of my commission done. A mix of loose marks and fiddly marks in progress today. A lot of the time painting requires faith. You have to go with the paint flow and trust that all the splashes, dots, wiggles and squiggles will combine to create something beautiful and full of life. Personally I don’t really worry about it I just put paint to paper where feels right and I enjoy the freedom in losing myself in a painting.
Anyway enough waffling! My little man is asleep in the corner so best take advantage of that and keep going with this commission. Any guesses on the bird?

I've had a little change around in the studio. I'd like to say this is a 'new year, fresh start' kind of change but actually it was more to accommodate the giant play pen so I can maybe have more time in the studio accompanied by my little man! However, I do quite like the new layout. Perhaps I'll see you here some time?

Sorry for a quiet few days! I finished my taxes and spent some time planning decorating and getting myself all set up to start back in the studio. I am in today and I'll be putting my other dates on the website for the following couple of months. In the meantime...I painted a cat at Christmas! What do you think?

For Christmas I was commissioned to paint a couple of familiar faces and their new companion. I've painted Coco and Willow before but Belle is a new addition to their family. Which is your favourite from these 3?

We first met Jina as a relative newcomer to the worldof professional artists when she took a stall at Gibside Farmer's market quite a few years ago. On that day we couldn't decide which original painting would look best on our wall at home. She agreed to pop in with all her art after her day at Gibside had ended. We bought three that day and were so pleased with them we now own nine of her paintings, varying from hares, owls, crows and ducks to foxes and robins. I'd have more if I had the wall space. Her style is intuitive and individual and her friendly personality and cheerful disposition is poured into her work and shines out of her canvases.

The life in Jina's pieces is amazing, she really captures the very essence of our wildlife.

Recently bought the original painting of Caramel the hare from Jina and I absolutely love it

Ordered a full tea set of ginger the fox for a friends wedding. Absolutely amazing not only is the quality of the set beautiful but Jina included an inscription on their wedding day. It was so perfect. Could not have asked for anything more. Would recommend Jina and will use her again!

Met Jina at Malvern the week .. fabulous paintings so very talented and a lovely lady very chatty and friendly xx

Jina painted my boyfriend's 4 dogs as a christmas present for him. It was absolutely amazing when I saw it. My boyfriend loved it as it a keep sake for him as 2 of his dogs are getting older.

Jina has done 2 commissions for us a Greyhound which belonged to my son and his wife which was done only from a few photographs we bought it as a present and for them and they both cried when they saw it she had captured his features to a T. The other is a Chocolate Labrador and everyone who comes to our house comments on it. WELL Done Jina

I've bought a few prints off Jina now, some as gifts, some for myself. She painted Sammy my Scarlet Macaw who sadly passed away. In this Print and all of Jina's prints she doesn't just produce a likeness of the animal - she capture the spirit of the animal so much so just looking at the print you wouldn't be surprised to see them move.

I'm so fortunate that my son met Jina at University and he introduced me to this naturally talented young lady. She is able to capture every last detail in whatever she chooses to draw and I'm a very proud owner of a number of her beautifully crafted items such as hedgehog cards, hedgehog mug, calendar etc. Also bought a selection of handbag mirrors and notebooks to give as gifts. We love travelling around the North East visting fairs and always make sure to visit the ones where Jina has a stand. She always has a welcoming smile on her beautiful face and time to chat. Got my eye on one of her delightful lights as my next purchase!!

I recently commissioned Jina to paint 2 pictures of my beautiful labradoodle who is sadly no longer with us, as Christmas presents for my 2 adult sons. Jina was brilliant, I am very indecisive and she helped me make a decision on which photographs to have painted. She first did a sketch of the photographs to see if I was happy with them before she went ahead and began the painting stage, one of the sketches did not need any changes, and the other one which was more difficult to do since I did not have many good photographs, Jina worked from several different shots and incorporated those into the one painting, I asked Jina to slightly tweak the pose to my requirements which must have been a challenge, and she achieved a fantastic result. I felt a bit awkward asking to slightly change things on one of the sketches before Jina went ahead to the next stage, but I am so glad I did because I am absolutely thrilled with the results, Jina was very professional and did not make me feel like I was a nuisance. Jina also sent me an update of the painting stage to see how things were going and to see if I was happy with the progress. The final results were outstanding, and I cannot express enough how happy my boys were to receive these as they were such a special present. We miss our gorgeous dog so much, and these beautiful paintings are such a lovely reminder of Bonnie, and every time we look at them they make us smile. Thank you so much Jina, you are such an amazing and unique talent. Ursula Fletcher

I commissioned a painting as a christmas gift for my husband and jina did the most fantastic painting of Snoopy, the Jack Ruseell. She really caught Snoop's character and I couldn't be more delighted. She is a very talented artist indeed. Thank you Jina

I love Jina's work, we ordered our 2016 and 2017 calendars from Jina. We have also bought cards and gifts for friends. Saving pennies for a large art print for the living room, and a candle holder and a lampshade! lol

I found Jina Gelder Illustrations at a trade show, and loved her work. She was lovely to work with and kept me updated with the progress of my portrait. It was a present for my mum for Xmas which she loved and so do I. Jina did a fantastic job and I would 100% recommend her to anyone. Thank you Jina xx

I first saw Jina'a work over a year ago when I was passing through Newcastle Central Station. I fell in love with the little field mice. I kept looking and finally decided a few days ago to buy the largest lampshade for my standard lamp. It arrived safely today. I so love it. It's beautiful. Jina your artwork is amazing. Thank you. I do need to pay a visit to your studio some day.

First saw Jina work at York and loved her designs .Have just received a order of cups and a light shade really packed well with one of her cards which I shall frame thank you so much love everything. Margaret
