a great night out. Got a nice welcome when we went food really good and value for money . The service was excellent and you were made to feel as if the staff were glad to serve you. I would and have already recommended THEJOLLY SAILOR to my friends and a lot will be going to try it for themselves. I would certainly rate this hostelry as more than worth a visit I for sure will go again.
Well after seeing a post or two from new year giving terrible feedback I was a bit dubious about coming for a meal this evening, never having been before......to be honest I actually think the previous review has been to a different establishment. I have nothing but praise and trust me I am very very picky and hard to please. The staff were absolutely lovely, nothing was too much trouble, polite, friendly, a lovely warm reception when we arrived exactly what a county pub and restaurant should be, very accommodating and they were fabulous with the children....the food......my goodness the food was absolutely delicious.....we have been to some really nice places to eat but this place is now one of my favourites, reasonably priced for the quality of food you are served.....my only complaint is that I ate so much I didn't have room for a desert so next time I will make sure I do. I have a feeling we will be visiting a lot more and any bad reviews previously from my experience this evening have no foundation. So pleased I didn't take on board any negative feedback and tried it for myself, thank you so much for a wonderful evening and absolutely gorgeous food xxx
We had starters with half of beer. Staff were pleasant and helpful in making our choice. All was lovely. Our pate starters had homemade pate, lots of toast, a great salad accompanied by redcurrent sauce . The craft beer and Guiness were very good. We plan to visit again for a full meal.
We booked for a evening meal nine people for daughters 18th couldn't find menu for me the picky one so hoped something would be suitable. Well I was spoilt for choice plenty for me from favourites fish chicken steaks proper chips I was sorted and so was everyone else 3 courses brilliant prawn cocktails camembert cheese starters, pate just to mention a few everyone was happy and we just managed to get a pudding down apple pie and custard . All the staff were amazing rapid service very cheerful couldn't have been a better night . This was on 2nd February and we have returned on Saturday 11th to have a early Valenetines meal . I don't normally write reviews but this was so good I had to.
Visited here Friday, got there for opening at 6pm and were given a table promptly. Ordered our food which arrived quickly considering how busy it was! Food was delicious and all homemade as were the desserts! Play park/beer garden was fantastic for the kids and we’ll be returning in the near future! �
One of the best meals we’ve been out for in a long time! We’ve booked to come back with family next weekend, would recommend, beautiful food and a lovely atmosphere x
Me and my husband went for a meal last night the food was lovely such a wide range to pick from on the menu the pub was warm n the staff were friendly n helpful I would recommend a visit 29/10/2017
Me and my husband come here for the first time and we where not disappointed. The staff where lovely especially the young lady with long dark hair who give me a cuddle and a peck on the cheek as we left. The food was out off this world and we will be calling again. Thank u all so much ���
Me and my husband Bill Pryce were in our motor home. The jolly sailor are part of the Brit stop family for motor homes so I rang ahead to see if they had a space. We had a great stay fabulous meal at the pub plus a peaceful nights stop over. 😃The staff are lovely and very welcoming! 🤗
Live in Redcar not been here since I was young and today brought my children. It was really good pub food and the kids loved the play area. Will be back x
Called in whilst passing on our way home from Filey yesterday. Can honestly say it was one of the best Sunday lunches I have ever had. The food was served fast by lovely friendly staff. Did have to wait for a while at the bar to pay the bill but other than that I could not fault it.
Arrived on bank holiday Monday and got a table straight away without pre booking.

The Sunday dinner was lovely. Puddings were exceptional. Only improvements I could say would be for the staff to be a little more proactive- as in bringing menus to table, or let us know what meats they had. Return to offer dessert, and clear up table. I had to ask for all of the above. Either way it was nice enough to return, as it may be that they were busy. They were friendly enough when they spoke to us x
Phoned up and booked a table for 6.30 pm. When we arrived we were seated and told they would come over and take drinks order. 20 minutes later we still hadn't had a drinks order taken. Husband had to go to bar to get the drinks. In total we waited 45 minutes before a food order was taken. Starters were served but we had long waits between each course, everytime food came out something was wrong on the order , which staff apologised for. In the end we were in the resteraunt for 2 hours 30 mins. We had two children with us who were getting extremely bored and agitated. Such a shame as food was lovely when it finally came out, however we found the service today really poor.
Went today for Sunday lunch. We pre booked a table but when we got there it wasn't ready so had to wait for it. The waitress serving us wasn't very helpful. There was no menu given to us to look at, we only got a children's menu after asking for it. I asked for a portion of extra roasties and was told we couldn't have any "because the chef is short on them today"�. When we Asked another waitress for the roasties she said it wasn't a problem and added them onto our order. We waited over an hour for the food to arrive. We weren't offered any sauces or condiments - when we asked the unhelpful waitress she said "no you'll have to ask someone else!" We placed an order for extra drinks and had to ask for them 3 times as they never arrived. However, once the food did eventually arrive it was lovely but we won't be going back in a hurry as there was no organisation and the waitress was absolutely useless!
Poor vegetarian option. Having rung in advance to ensure a veggie Sunday roast was available I was really upset that it turned out to be merely 3 Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes. It would be SO easy to provide something in place of meat. Very disappointing. (I should say there are other veg options but not if you want to have a roast dinner)
Very poor service for Sunday lunch today. We heard numerous complaints regarding the food at the bar whilst waiting to order our drinks. We were a pre booked party of ten. It took three hours to be served our Sunday lunch and desserts. The mashed potato was slop with lumps, frozen Yorkshire puddings and then we were asked did we want the chicken bones with the children's roast chicken dinner's! The dessert board was slung on the table at us. No drink orders were taken from from the table, so each person had to keep leaving the table for a drink during our meal. When asked if we wanted a large or small meal, the only difference was the quantity of frozen Yorkshire puddings which was one or two. Very young people serving, very poor customer service and not a floor manager in site. Defiantly wouldn't go back or recommend anyone to go. �
So went to the jolly sailors for a celebration for my mams birthday, to be waiting 45 minutes to have our orders even taken even after asking 3 times to three different members of staff can we order and we even had a table booked, with the thought that we wouldn't be waiting! Then for the waitress to turn around and say that we should have gone to mc Donald's if we wanted our food to be fast! Erm what food we haven't even ordered any? As having been a waitress in the past and working in mc Donald's I would never treat or speak to a customer like that! We wherent aware or told that there was a wait as if we had we would have been aware of the situation, the staff wherent that bad apart from the one women that tried to take our order, she was so rude to us, we didn't order food as I am not prepared to pay that much money for food to be treat like that! We wanted the staff to know we where very unhappy about the wait but didn't feel like we where rude to her and she was so rude to us absolutely wouldn't treat a customer like that such poor customer service and wouldn't not go back, we also wherent asked if we wanted to see a manager which I would expect for such a complaint at a restaurant, there didn't even seem to be one around! #starvingisnttheword
Never been so disappointed with the customer service in a restaurant/pub in all my existence!! Firstly when we walked in we got told to take a seat and they would come over. We were ready to order so informed the bar staff, they then told us that someone else would take our order as she didn't take orders and they would be over in a sec. We waited for approximately 40 mins when numerous staff members were walking past blanking us, we then asked if it was ok to place our order when we received a very snotty answer of ''I'm busy I'v got loads of people and you'll have to wait''. Which came across extremely rude. (At this moment in time the waitresses were getting people fans, wiping tables and collecting glasses) - extremely busy to write down an order. I would of been more understanding if was explained POLITELY when entered before getting drinks and sitting down about a wait. We then decided to walk out and pay for drinks. The bar staff member said ''they didn't know it was busy'' NO apology!! think they need to consider who they are employing.
