Marsden Walkers Are Welcome

Another great reason to be part of the Marsden Walking Festival this year... It was great to see John Hewitt featured in the Observer Newspaper / online in The Guardian this weekend.

A couple of the steering group - Jenny and Mark - joined other Walkers are Welcome towns in Bingley today for the 'Northern get-together'. We came away with new ideas and some new contacts. And it was great to see our neighbours from Meltham too :-)

We are really pleased to say that John Hewitt will be our artist in residence (well, on foot) over the 2019 walking festival in September (20th - 22nd September).
John is very talented and on top of that is a lovely chap, we are really pleased to have him on board! You might spot him over the weekend out and about, or in the Mechanics Hall.
Have a look on Instagram at @w_john_hewitt to see John's fantastic daily drawings.
What John might draw 'on the day' will be necessarily restricted by time and / or the weather. So he will also create three or so drawings for us before the festival: He's going to walk some or all of our waymarked routes over the summer.
John will exhibit the drawings he makes and will be selling prints in the Mechanics on Saturday 21st. A proportion of sales will be donated to Marsden WaW, which is amazing.
John is a tad camera shy but I managed to wrangle a quick photo of him at the newly opened and excellent Weavers Factory gallery in Uppermill, where he is currently exhibiting. My photo is a bit blurry so I have created a panel shot of some of his work.
