Coach Lee has been training Coach Erin in preparation for returning to track in August. ūüŹÉūüŹľ‚Äć‚ôÄÔłŹūüí® Erin has always struggled with her starts, over-strided in the acceleration phase (due to being an ex-high jumper), lacked stability AND had tendonitis of the left knee, hip and elbow ūüėÖ
Erin’s 1st phase of training concentrated on alleviating her tendonitis and making her more stable.
... In 8weeks: Erin‚Äôs tendonitis has completely gone ūüöę Her first 10m has improved by 0.2seconds ūüďą CounterMovementJump has increased by 4cm ūüďą BroadJump has increased by 15cm ūüďą

That extra game, that extra tournament and that additional football training session (even though they do sufficient) can in fact negatively impact their progression and athletic development and lead to injuries due to forced adaptation. ūüďČ
ūüďąHere we have little Grae who takes part in our Multilateral Development Programme with Coach Lee. This programme will help him peak in his chosen sport... at the right time (18+), reduce his chance of injuries throughout his time playing sport and he will more likely carry on playing football in adult life, whilst others drop-out due to injury or burnout because of early specialisation when they were children.ūüďą
Early specialisation may lead to initial faster improvements but these athletes peak young and are quickly overtaken by multi-skilled, multilateral athletes. ūü§∑‚Äć‚ôāÔłŹūü§∑‚Äć‚ôÄÔłŹ

Children are more likely to become injured by being involved in purely one sport.
To excel in sport children (6-15years) should take a multi-sport approach, which will enhance all the pillars of athleticism. A structured and periodised strength programme is also crucial in preventing injury and developing them as an athlete.
Just like our friends at the Underground Training Station said, if your child is only involved in football, or rugby, or running and does nothing else, please consider reducing their hours in that sport and dedicate those hours to something else. This will benefit them massively and actually improve their performance in their preferred sport!
