About Minding Me Psychologists

As a Psychologist, Cognitive Behavioural and Personal Coach, Sarah works with her clients to help them to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Minding Me Psychologists Description

I am a Psychologist and Coach with a wealth of experience working with clients from all walks of life. I understand the psychology of coaching from a cognitive-behavioural perspective and am proficient in the use of a range of advanced coaching techniques and models and their application to life, health, business, and performance coaching.
ŌĆŗ
All of my work is centred around helping people to change aspects of their lives that they are not satisfied with. As a trained Psychologist, I can help you to make sense of the difficulties you are facing and explore your responses to such situations. I do this in a supportive way, with a little bit of challenge when appropriate. I use psychological theory in a practical, down to earth way. I firmly believe that we have the answers to our own problems within ourselves; however we canŌĆÖt always see these clearly. When coaching, I work with you to facilitate the process of you finding these answers. Along the way I may also teach you some useful techniques, or invite you to use certain tools if I think they will benefit youŌĆÖ.
ŌĆŗ
I have helped people with a number of different issues, including overcoming anxiety and panic attacks, developing self-confidence; overcoming stress, managing long term health conditions, deciding on a next career move; preparing for promotion; going back to work after a period of time off; dealing with redundancy; managing difficult relationships; preparing for exams and presentations; overcoming procrastination and time management issues.
ŌĆŗ
I tailor my coaching approach to the individual needs of all of my clients. The general structure is to work with clients to:
ŌĆŗ
Increase their self-awareness and clarify their goals.

Identify and understand any self-limiting beliefs and behaviours.

Challenge these limiting thoughts and behaviours by practicing more helpful strategies.

Review progress and action plan for sustained change

IŌĆÖd like to share a little story about the importance of asking for help.
I ran out of petrol last week when I was on my own in the car with my two young children on our way to one of the great Blooming Kids NI classes in Moneymore. I managed to find a small garage, but due to me suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, filling up with petrol and going in to pay with 2 small children is a huge challenge.
So, I drove in and could feel myself getting anxious, I wondered ŌĆśhow can I wa...lk in to pay for the petrol without falling over?ŌĆÖ What will I do with the kids? I could take them out, then I would have the support of the pram to walk, but IŌĆÖll be really late and miss the class they love and have been looking forward toŌĆÖ. When I checked my purse, I realised I didnŌĆÖt have any cash, just my bank card. My heart sank, I felt really stuck. I realised I was going to have to just swallow my pride and put my trust in a complete stranger and ask for help. I saw a man and woman walking out who both looked friendly. I called them over and explained my situation. ŌĆ£ IŌĆÖm really sorry to bother you, I have MS, canŌĆÖt walk very well, my two kids are in the car, I donŌĆÖt have enough petrol to get home, if I give you my card would you be able to go in and pay for my petrol please?ŌĆØ
They were so obliging and willing to help. You might be thinking, ŌĆśIŌĆÖll bet they wereŌĆÖ, but I felt like I could trust them. I gave him my pin number and the man went in to pay for my petrol while the lady chatted to me. I could see they were both delighted to be able to help. I was delighted that someone I had never met was so amenable. It meant so much to me because I really did feel stuck, scared, frustrated and so helpless that I couldnŌĆÖt just lock the car and run in quickly to pay myself. I have always been quite an independent person and as my MS symptoms have gotten worse, I have had to really let go of that, swallow my pride and ask other people for help sometimes.
What I have realised in doing this is that people generally love to help. Psychological research has proven that reaching out and helping others increases happiness. As the saying goes ŌĆśIf you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebodyŌĆØ I know I always feel good when I have done something nice for someone else. I am using this to remind myself that I shouldnŌĆÖt shy away, be ashamed or embarrassed about asking others for help because ŌĆ£somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than to do something for others." Martin Luther King Jr.
Johnny and Bernie (who live near the Texaco garage in Moneymore), if you read this, thank you so much, I will always remember your kindness.
