Newton Aycliffe railway station serves the town of Newton Aycliffe in County Durham, England. The station is on the Tees Valley Line and is operated by Northern who provide all passenger train services. Station facilities here have been improved as part of the Tees Valley Metro project. The package for this station included new fully lit waiting shelters, digital CIS displays, renewed station signage and the installation of CCTV. The long-line Public Address system (PA) has been renewed and upgraded with pre-recorded train announcements. The station is on the original mainline of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, where it junctioned with the Clarence Railway at what was then known as Simpasture Junction. However, the station is a relatively recent addition, having only opened by British Rail in 1978. ServicesThere is a basic two-hourly service from the station in each direction, increasing to hourly during the weekday a. m & p. m business peaks (10 per day in way in total). There is also a two-hourly service each way on Sundays. Services normally run through to via Middlesbrough, though there is one through train each day to and a summer-Sundays working to via the Esk Valley Line.
