Facts on flu:
Many people believe the myth that the flu jab gives you flu. The injected flu vaccine contains inactivated flu viruses, so it can't give you flu. Some people get a slight temperature and aching muscles for a couple of days. #NEASflufighter

User

The health and wellbeing of our staff is a top priority within the organisation and providing them with the opportunity to receive their free flu jab, ensures staff and their patients are protected against the virus. #NEASFluFighter

User

Our flu superheroes are back to launch the flu fighter campaign this week, taking vaccines to our staff. Here’s our team from occupational health, Judith, Lesley and Emma. #NEASflufighter

We’ve had a great week launching our new Macmillan team, set up to support palliative and end of life patients across the North East. We ended the week with coffee mornings at some of our sites across the region to raise money for Macmillan. Thank you to everyone who has welcomed our team throughout the week #teamNEAS

All week we've been talking about how we are improving our services for fallers in our region. Our latest project involves providing specialist training to a group of our community first responders so they can respond to patients who have fallen and are deemed not to have an injury. We'll be revealing more about this service next week. #NEASFallsPrevention #fallspreventionweek

Our mission is to provide safe, effective and responsive care for all. Which is why our staff are being offered FREE flu vaccinations. This October, NEAS staff will be offered the flu vaccination to protect themselves and patients from the influenza virus. Get behind them and show your support.

We have now come to the end of this year's annual general meeting, where keynote speaker Alan Foster said the ambulance service was the "artery and bone structure that joins together the other parts of the North East NHS health system". We also heard how more than 1,800 staff have been trained to recognise sepsis over the last year and how, despite demand on our service increasing by more than a third in the last decade, we are proportionately taking fewer patients in to hospital. You can read our review of the year on our website at https://www.neas.nhs.uk/…/a-review-of-o ur-year-at-north-eas…

Our new Macmillan team have been back out on the road today, visiting our hospitals in Durham, South Tyneside and Middlesbrough to spread the word about our new service, which aims to improve services for palliative and end of life patients across the North East. “We only get one chance to get this right,” said Macmillan nurse Sarah Turnbull, who is leading the service. “Ultimately this service is all about making a difference.” You can find out more about the service at https://www.neas.nhs.uk/…/new-specialis t-service-launched-f…

Today we’re looking back at the last year at our annual general meeting (AGM) and Annual Members' Meeting at The Town Hall Chambers Business and Conference Centre in Wallsend. Here is Alan Foster, the regional lead for the development of the Integrated Care System in the North East and Cumbria, delivering a keynote speech on the importance of integration and the benefits this can bring to patients

Following on from our post yesterday about our successful Alternative Reponse Teams (ART), we now also have a designated rapid response vehicle to attend cases involving patients that have fallen.
The new falls team for NEAS includes paramedics and occupational therapists, working together to provide a timely response and deliver care to older patients who have fallen, thereby reducing the need for a hospital admission and prevent future falls.

Supporting fallers in our region is one of the top priorities for our service.
NEAS supports three Alternative Response Teams (ART) for patients who have fallen in North Tyneside, North Tees, Hartlepool and County Durham - designed to give patients who have fallen without injury an early response and reduce the number of injuries caused by offering advice and assessments.
These dedicated multi-skilled crews are able to support many patients back on their feet without the need... for a NEAS emergency care crew, thereby providing a fast response to patients and increasing our ambulances’ availability to attend life threatening calls.
You can read more about the ART crew by following this link: https://www.neas.nhs.uk/…/best-foot-for ward-for-fallers.aspx

Did you know a fall is the fourth most common reason for people requesting an ambulance?
One fall in twenty leads to hospital admission and, of these, one in ten will have a significant injury.
We are currently working with other organisations across the region to improve our service to fallers. For more information about falls prevention, please visit Age UK's website: https://www.ageuk.org.uk/…/prog…/fall s-prevention-resources/

Today we had the pleasure of launching our new service for palliative and end of life patients in the North East.
The service, run in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support is believed to be the first of its kind in the North, and aims to address problems which have been highlighted across the UK around the quality of care and support for patients at the end of their lives.

Year 2 were very lucky to have a visit from Kyle and Tom today. The children loved them. They engaged the Children's interest from the start of the session giving them ample time to ask questions and talk about their own trips in an ambulance. The highlight of the session for them was the tour of the ambulance and hearing the sirens. Thank you for our visit we loved it.

User

We have used the ambulance service several times over the years. The last two times. being the night my youngest son was unexpectedly born at home. By two wonderful paramedics.

And the paramedics who then blue lighted my lb and me to the rvi the following afternoon. So he could have emergency surgery.

Thank you all

User

Want to send a big thank you to the amazing paramedics that treated me yesterday after coming off a horse in Hartlepool. They kept my spirits up and helped me keep my mind off the pain I was in.

User

Very quick response to me last night, in such horrific weather conditions on suspicion of a stroke. Thankfully it wasn't that but symptoms indicated as such and they spent enough time with me to make sure my symptoms had subsided before they left - knew their stuff!

Top lads!

Today we were very lucky to have the NEAS visit our school to talk to the children about how paramedics help us. Tom and Kyle were brilliant with the children and made the session informative, interactive and engaging. The children loved going in the ambulance and even got to hear the sirens and see the flashing lights! Thank you guys for taking the time out of what I know are such busy days for you. We loved every minute!

Just want to say a big thank you to "Aaron" @ Redcar ambulance base - father-in -law took a funny turn while we were in Redcar. We pulled into the base and sought help , dad was treated with respect and dignity while we were advised on what to do- even got an appointment made for us at JCUH to get him checked out. We are thankful that Aaron was there at that moment in time as we thought the worst as you do ! ( I know he was on duty and an emergency could have been called at anytime) yet he took his time , didn't rush and made us all feel a lot better

Thank you so much xxx

I had to make a call to 999 on Wednesday the 27th of June 2018 after finding my 10 yr old brother unresponsive and not breathing. He was then taken into hospital. Luckily, he is now back home and making progress in his recovery. I have to say the call handler, clinician and the 3 paramedics who attended my house were absolutely phenomenal and I can't thank them enough. I never managed to get any of their names but we have had the same crew out to us in the past. Everyone's hard work, expertise and dedication at NEAS certainly doesn't go unnoticed!

I would also like to wish the NHS a Happy 70th Birthday!

User

I had to call an ambulance following a collapse at work with a severe back injury on Monday 2nd July 18.

I have to say the two crew members were outstanding and I can’t thank them enough. I managed to get one name Liam Roebuck but unfortunately never managed to get his crew mates name. I would like to personally thank the guys for being so caring and getting me up off the floor with minimal pain and would also like to ask Neas to thank them on my behalf for their hard work and dedication to the service. These two fellas set the bar for what you should expect in times of an emergency.

Shame the same can’t be said for A&E at Durham hospital as I was treat like an animal.

I cannot thank the North East Ambulance service enough for their response, help and support after having to ring 999 last night. I had lost control of my body and was terrified. They were simply amazing- they were calm, controlled and listened and explained everything. This allowed me to calm eventually, breath properly and regain control of my body, shakes, spasms and speach. Thank you crew 6803 thank you so much

User

I can not praise enough the crew were quickly on scene after a 999 call to attend to my Father in Law this morning. They were so caring, professional and efficient and as it was a blue light job to Dryburn, the driver got him there very quickly and safely, despite all the bad weather and snow.

I know the NE Ambulance Service gets some bad press, but credit where credit is due and this crew certainly deserve it.

User

Absolutely fantastic service from NEAS for my elderly mother in law today. Arrived within 5 minutes, assessed her, took her to hospital and kept the family calm at all times. I'll be emailing and hope the staff get the recognition they deserve from their bosses.
