Harris Hawks come from central and south America, in the wild there often found sitting on top of cacti. Harry has improvised today and easily sits atop the fence during Bird control today.

Earlier when was a bit hazy, waiting for Midge our Jack Merlin to have a "rouse" before taking off. Most birds of prey have a rouse, which is a big shake to put all feathers in the correct place just before take off, especially falcons.
The Merlin is Britains smallest falcon.

Providing bird control is a natural humane way of deterring pest species. We are working on a large power plant project in Teesside.

The River Tyne probably isn't the best place for a bath. Harold is trying his best to find a suitable bathing spot. 🤢🤮

User

Sorry we haven't posted for a while, we are busy getting our birds all fit and ready for the season ahead. Winds not the most helpful at moment. So here is Harold our Harris hawk on his photoshoot yesterday.

User

We hope everyone is enjoying this unusually warm weather like Harold our Harris Hawk.

Mr Heron, was released this morning. Slowly went, was expecting him to take off but he slowly walked off into the reeds.

User

Due to the wind, training with Midge our Jack Merlin was indoors. He's doing well and almost ready for free flight outdoors.

Update on heron.
He doesn’t seem to want to fly, he has been checked over and all is fine with him. He is now a healthy weight for a wild heron.
Enjoying running around garden to much.

We have just been told we have won “Innovation and Excellence award 2019” for the bird control services we provide.

User

Update on the Heron. He's still refusing to fly but is much stronger and enjoying walking around the garden even if it's -6 this morning. He is eating well which is normally a good sign.

User

This afternoon we were called as there was a Heron that was acting unusually by laying on the floor and unwilling to move when people approached. We were able to catch him quickly and checked him over. There is nothing wrong with him physically, such as wings, legs, neck or breathing etc he is very underweight. As it was unsafe to leave the Heron there due to foxes or dogs and it was snowing in Stanley. So we have brought him back and put him in seclusion over night in the d...ark after feeding him.
He's had a mute and blood test to check for anything else.
We will see how he is tomorrow.

Hi Glen, Thursday was our hawk walk, a treat from me boy Adam. What a great time we had with Elga a superb Harris Hawk. Thanks for you professional care and knowledge of your birds we will hopefully see you again maybe with your Eagle. Regards Walt & Adam.

Had a brilliant time on our Hawk walk today. Helga the Harris hawk was amazing! The woods at Ryton were really lovely although a little slippery! Thank you so much to Glen for all the information, a true professional & obviously very passionate about his birds of prey. Would highly recommend the whole experience.

Bought a Hawk Walk for my husband for Christmas. Went along last weekend not quite sure what to expect and was amazed by this experience. My husband held the Harris hawk Helga while we walked through the wood at Ryton. The bird flew away to Perch on the trees and was then tempted back to be fed in the hand. Glen the owner told us information the whole way round the hour long walk which was really interesting. He was really friendly and we all enjoyed this . Would definitely do this again.

User

User

Absolutely brilliant experience!! We enjoyed a 90 minute "Hawk Walk" with Glen and Helga (not sure how to spell Helga in this case). Glen was friendly and knowledgable and we learned loads on the day about birds of prey and even a little bit about the history of the English language! Could not fault the experience - Hawk Walks with North East Falconry are a "must do".

User

Absolutely amazing experience today with my 85 year old wheelchair bound (sometimes) mother. can’t recommend enough! Lovely memories were made today, thank you x
