North East Hearts With Goals Description

North East Hearts with Goals was started by 2 sisters in law Kelly Best & Christine Stephenson in March 2013. Fuelled from losing Kelly's husband & Christine's brother Neil in 2003 and then from the results of Kelly's 16 year old Son Will's routine screening results, which currently stands at probable ARVD in March 2013.

We searched the net to find out what ARVD was and what we could do. We watched the footage of Fabrice Muamba collapsing on pitch in 2012 and then so many more heartbreaking stories unfolded of these fit, young, healthy people being taken far too soon. It was on finding this information that we knew we wouldn't be placing one defib in Will's school as planned.
This is the UK's biggest killer, killing 100, 000 every year. 12 - 15 young people every week. We would be placing as many as we could.

Fordley Primary School were the leaders in the pack. They contacted us immediately saying they would fund half of a defib. Ken & Pat Best Neil's parents paid £200 and with the help of the local community the first defibrillator was installed by Peter Beardsley in July 2013. We also have the support of the Northumberland FA and the NUFC Foundation.

Local company P & G recognised that the work we were planning was an enormous and necessary help locally and awarded us a grant following a nomination by a memeber of their staff and old school friend of ours Jane Gorden . These funds placed defibs into TyneMet College, Seaton Burn College, Longbenton College and Northumberland Church of England Academy. P & G still support us with numerous raffle prizes throughout the year.

We also met with Norma Redfearn Mayor of North Tyneside at the end of last year to explain why defibrillators are so important in our schools, because of that meeting North Tyneside Council are looking to place 46 in local schools with our help.

We've had Great North Swimmers, Great North Runners, Race Nights, Bag Packs, Asda token appeals, raffles and wristbands to keep the momentum up and keep placing these defibs. An anonymous donation of 20k has boosted us further and enabled us to widen our reach and look into some essential heart screening for the North East.

We have gathered quite a gallery of celebrities supporting us by wearing out black and white charity bands including Ant & Dec, Alan Shearer, Zara Phillps & Mike Tindall, Kenny Dalgleish, Chris Ramsey, John Beresford & Rob Lee. Our popularity has grown and so has our team : )

We've come such a long way and it is very hard work but so rewarding. We don't get paid. We raise the funds to place defibs ourselves with the help of the local communities.

Everything is done in the very little free time that we have.

If you feel you can help us please contact Kelly or Christine at neheartswithgoals@gmail.com

Heart screening it so important. If you see our screening van at an event near you, please book an appointment and have your heart screened. It doesn’t take long and it could save your life. Our thoughts are with the families of those who died whilst running the Cardiff Half Marathon. We know the devastation this leaves behind 😞 Love and strength being sent to help them through this awful time.

If you have a table reserved at our ball please could you pay full amount within the next 2 weeks (don't forget to add your surname/company on so we know who it’s from). We have a list of people waiting as reserves and The Grand Gosforth need our final numbers by then. Many thanks.
The support we have from you all is amazing ❤️⚽️ xx
