About Northumbria Army Cadet Force

England’s most northerly Army Cadet County stretching from the Scottish Borders to the river Tyne with 900 cadets and over 150 Adult volunteers

Northumbria Army Cadet Force Description

For action and adventure, fun and friendship, the Army Cadet Force is hard to beat. With 41, 000 cadets (aged 12-18) and 9, 500 adults in over 1, 600 locations in every corner of the United Kingdom, the ACF is one of the country’s largest voluntary youth organisations. It is also one of the oldest tracing its history back to 1859.

Many young people are missing out on the challenges and adventures that could transform their lives but joining the Army Cadets can change that. We welcome boys and girls (aged over 12 and in at least year eight at school) of all abilities and backgrounds. When they join us we encourage them to learn more, do more and try more. We inspire them to aim high and pursue their goals, no matter what they aim to do in life.

Some of our activities have a military theme, others have more of a community focus but they all inspire young people to challenge their limits, become more independent, confident and able to step up to any challenge.

The Army Cadet Force is one of four cadet organisations sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Defence, the others being the Combined Cadet Force, the Sea Cadet Corps, and the Air Training Corps. Although they are sponsored by the Ministry of Defence there is no obligation on cadets to join the Armed Forces.

It’s always exciting to hear news about our former cadets young and old/er!
Congratulations to Craftsman Farish (Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers), ex-Berwick Detachment, who smashed his recent Potential Non Commissioned Officer course becoming top student. He is currently with 8 Training Battalion REME (thanks for pic!) and the good news was sent to us by proud brother SMI Farish (CSM W Coy).

Members of Y Company recently visited one of our affiliated units (101st Regiment Royal Artillery) during their training weekend on Otterburn Training Area.
Heavy snow from the previous day had somewhat thawed. #StormDennis did not deter or dampen anyone's spirits as visitors got to see the Multi Launch Rocket System (MLRS) up close and learn more about the roles and responsibilities for those who serve. For a lucky few (who had previously attended the Royal Artillery Insig...ht Camp and achieved their gunnery badge) they were involved sending practice fire missions from within the Command Post. A hot lunch was then served on the area, a welcome treat on such a blustery and soggy day.
Thank you to the Commanding Officer and members of 101st Regiment RA for our invitation and looking after us so well. Many of our Cadets are now looking forward to the next Royal Artillery Insight Camp, which will run later this year. Thank also go to our Adult Volunteers who enabled the visit and gave up their Saturday to offer this opportunity to our young people.

2020 is off to a flying start for our Cassino Band. They are attending music training this weekend north of the border with colleagues from across Scotland and Northern Ireland. From not only the Army Cadets, but also a range of other youth organisations.
Do you play an instrument or want to learn? Aged 10+? Then why not come along to find out more and join Northumbria’s military band? Adult volunteers also welcome.
They practice on Wednesday evenings (19.00-21.00) at the Army Reserve Centre, Kingston Park. 💂‍♂️🎼🥁🎺🎷
