Another controlled collapse of a Ship to Shore Crane (STS) this time Valparaiso Chile, for TPSV. This is the first time this method of demolition/dismantling has been carried out in Chile. O’Brien Demolition had very limited room in which to carry out the collapse of this STS crane, however the unique design and location of our cuts alongside the precise calculations carried out by our inhouse team of demolition engineers, allowed us to collapse the crane within 10 meters of ...an existing building and 8 meters of an existing lighting tower with perfect accuracy. Communication Mast Dismantling - Aykley Heads Durham
The scope of works included the dismantling and re-erecting of a grade 2 listed, 45 meter communication mast. O’Brien Demolition was tasked with relocating the mast from the old police HQ to the new police HQ. The mast was designed and built in 1965 by Ove Arup, due to this; the mast is listed and therefore could not be damaged during relocation. O’Brien Demolitions management team planned to dismantle and re-erect the mast... the same way it was built in 1965, the mast stood at a height of 45m making in very difficult to lift and transport. A specially designed lifting bracket was made and bolted to the mast at existing holes allowing the mast to be lifted without any damage. The mast was then topped and tailed with the use of two mobile cranes and lowered on to a flatbed wagon to be transported to the new location.
