Fabulous concert tonight at the Church of Our Lady and St Aidan in Wallsend. I reckon they may win the prize for being the warmest, most welcoming, receptive and appreciative Church audience we’ve sung for. We had a ball because they did. Beautiful church, delightful people, thank you for inviting us, St Aidan’s!

Lynne is one of our altos and this fun loving lady likes to describe herself as a ‘Good chorus girl’!
She has been a member of the group for 14 years when she joined in 2004 after someone had encouraged her to come along to see what she thought. Lynne thought it was wonderful and was immediately hooked. She said “ I wasn’t nervous .....well, not until I had my audition and to make matters worse, I had forgotten to bring my audition piece”! Thankfully,... the accompanist could play it by heart and all went smoothly.
Lynne loves singing! She thinks its one of the healthiest things you can do and it makes her feel bright , happy and keeps her young. In short, it just makes you feel really good.
It’s not just the singing that she enjoys. Lynne thinks there is an extra special element in the ‘dressing up ‘ aspect whenever there are any big shows to perform. She said “ It’s a great excuse to get glammed up!
Lynne has also made some really good friends while being in the group, some of which have become her main circle of friends.
If Lynne had any advice to give to anyone who was interested in joining the group it would be “Relax, have an open mind, be prepared to work hard and try not to take anything personally” She added.....”I think it would benefit anyone who needed that little boost in confidence or someone who would like to make more friends as I have done” 😀

I have been singing with the Ravenswood Singers for nearly ten years now and I’m always asked the same question. Why do I sing with them? Well, here are my reasons in no particular order why you should give it a go. 1 YOU MEET SO MANY DIVERSE PEOPLE - Choirs are often thought as being formal and stuffy but the Ravenswood Singers come from all walks of life and backgrounds . If you love meeting new people you will love it here. 2 IT FEELS GREAT! - Yes, you do have to go ...over bars of music and digest all the instructions from the Musical Director and then you have the performance itself which does require an awful lot of energy, but nothing can beat the feeling at the end of a concert when the audience erupts in rapturous applause. Its a massive sense of achievement and is one of the best feelings you will ever have! 3 ITS A GREAT WAY TO RELAX - Life can be stressful especially all the problems we have to deal with every day but singing can take your mind off all those things, not to mention the added benefit of deep breathing which will definitely help you to relax! 4 YOU GET TO PERFORM WITH PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS - This is one of the occasional treats with singing with the Ravenswood Singers. We recently had the chance to sing with ‘Tenors Un limited and it was really great to work with such talented artists. 5 ITS GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH - One of the things that has always intrigued me about this choir is how healthy everyone is and no one looks anywhere near their age! This is not just happenstance. Studies have shown how singing in a choir can improve your health by improving skills such as multi-tasking, memory focus and even maths! Yes- you have to count....even I struggle with this at times! So if any of the above has piqued your interest.....do not hesitate. Come along and give it a go! St Aidan’s Wallsend are hosting a Midsummer Concert with the Ravenswood Singers on Saturday 30th June at 7pm.
The concert will include songs from the shows, Sacred music and Viennese Songs
