We're one week away from our 3rd Birthday BBQ Beach Party.
The Cuban Brothers, Baghdaddies, Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra (Solo) and Deja Brew are all on board and we are super excited to now let you know more about the food offering...
Your ticket includes two dishes with additional dishes priced around £6 each.
... A total of five dishes will be cooked by Adam Riley and the talented shack chef’s who will be joined by Nick Grieves of The Patricia as he sets about designing and serving a very special dish of his own... though its not a contest ;-)
Chefs will be down on the beach, each using different elemental methods of cooking, earth (the sand) - fire (the bbq) - water (the sea)...
On Drinks duty we have Almasty Brewing Co and Twobytwobrewing on tap alongside a few other local gems and none other than a Hepple Gin bar run by our very talented Alex Forsyth.
The forecast is looking good, we got lots of wood to burn and lots thanks to celebrate, book now to avoid disappointment.. See you on the Beach, marshmallows on the house!

What can be better, sitting on the beach, music playing, a bottle of wine and some great fresh fish?

Mr Riley has developed more than a restaurant, this is an experience. It is brilliantly simple and FUN.

Yes at peak times there is a longish queue, but in a way that’s part of it and Mr Riley keeps you updated on how things are moving.

This is proper cooking as well. One advantage of the wait is that you can see how much hard work is going in into preparation, cooking and service. These people don’t half put in a shift.

Food is brought to you whether you are sitting indoors, on the bar front or on the beach.

The portions are enormous. We had empanadas followed by skin fried halibut and wood roast cod on puy lentils. Add rosemary and garlic potatoes and salad and we were absolutely stuffed.

Highlights were the halibut, superb, and those potatoes, beautiful.

If we were going to be picky, putting olives in the salad accompanying the halibut was too much, plain salad would have been fine as was served with the cod.

The wine list is limited, understandable with space constraints, but well thought out and good for most tastes.

Highly recommended!

User

What a fantastic place! Amazing gourmet food in such a simple beautiful location. Chill out on the beach, keeping warm into the evening with a wood fire drinking perfectly chilled delicious wine & the best fish supper I’ve had for a while. Very friendly staff & vibe

User

Taking into account the variation available, food is superb if not on the pricey side. Seating is limited with the option for al fresco, weather/wind direction permitting. Staff very friendly. We chose the homemade fish cakes as we’d only stopped for a light lunch. They were as good as we’ve had from anywhere.

User

Our 1st visit to Rileys fish shack on Saturday and it was amazing. A beautiful sunny day topped off by dinner on the decking over looking the beach, So relaxing. We enjoyed surf & turf and the roasted cod with peppers & pancetta. Delicious with a bottle of white wine. Amazing service, atmosphere & food. If your thinking of a visit, GO!! you won't be disappointed. We'll definately be back.

User

Once again totally blown away by the quality of the food. I had the Craster Kipper Wrap with potatoes.... amazing. This place is a true gem of the North East

User

On a cold wet Bank holiday Monday we ventured to Riley’s and was not disappointed. Yes it was busy with only a few tables but that all added to the atmosphere. There was a lovely log burner to take off the chill. The monkfish kebabs were really tasty and the staff very friendly. All in all a good choice

User

My husband actually delivers the wood here! From aboc solid fuels, Anyway thought we would try as my hubby has promised! Mmm I had the monk fish which came with a delicious salad and potatoes! One of the nicest meals I’ve had!! Sat on the beach!! Perfect! My step daughter had the same and she was equally impressed! My hubby had the chilli fish!! Wow it was so tasty! A little pricey but you pay for quality! Flavours bursting out!!!

User

Managed to get there early for lunch. Had to wait 30 minutes whilst they finished breakfast and prepped for service.

Absolutely worth the wait for our delicious Mackerel and Kipper Wraps.

A fabulous location.

What’s not to love.

😍

User

It’s taken me a while to get the Fish Shack experience and as I stood in the lengthy queue I was wondering to myself it would be worth it. But it most definitely was worth the effort. The Monkfish tail was the best food that I can remember eating. Why oh why did I wait so long?

User

I didn’t really know what to expect even though it’s a well reviewed place. I was really happy with our visit! Today I visited with just my two girls, but next time I will be sure to visit on my husband’s day off and drag my son along too. Great fish cakes, potatoes spot on, and the flat bread . A local gem indeed, worthy of all the great reviews from critics, other chefs and my four old!

User

Highly recommended beachside shabby chic eatery. Monkfish Wrap and Mackerel Wrap washed down by two craft draft beers and two glasses of good white wine all presented in cardboard boxes and plastic glasses - perfect for the setting. The best £50 for two I have spent in some time. Bested only by the people-watching opportunity: Geordies sunbathing by the sea in a balmy 18°C! Beer coat optional....

User

Have to say this place is a gem, even in the rain it’s a nice place to be and kept warm from the fires that were constantly topped up, the food is next level, we had langoustines, monkfish and oysters and everything was beautiful, can’t wait to go back

User

Eventually got round to using our Christmas gift vouchers from our daughters and enjoyed a delicious lunch today.

My husband had the Monkfish kebab and I had the wood roasted cod bake, both were amazing.

We have only been to once before for lunch but have had many breakfast here.

Food and service has always been excellent well worth the wait.

User

Completely unique, locally sourced, spectacular food and an unbeatable view. Hands down my favourite place to eat in the North East. Well worth the occasional wait for the freshest and tastiest fish you will find - never disappoints.

User

Arrived at Riley’s in time to catch breakfast & stayed on for lunch! To eat somewhere where the menu can’t be decided until the fresh fish has been bought & delivered is a fantastic concept - you know you’re getting what’s good. Fair enough the prices have to reflect what availability is (do you have any idea how much the cost of a lobster can fluctuate based on the season / weather etc??) Fair enough there’s often a queue, sometimes demand outways availability and sometimes the weather’s not good. BUT where else can you sit in a fantastic venue, with fabulous food and great people around??

After many years of visiting Riley’s, Adam & his team never disappoint - keep doing what you’re doing, it’s well worth all the hard work!!

Thank you.

User

Amazing food, location and quirky concept! Loved it, will be back. One gripe, great idea to supply blankets as it can be cold, but maybe you should wash them now and again? Very dirty and smelly blankets, it’s easy just to wash them once or twice a month to make your clients visits perfect

User

Amazing food as always, but one lobster wasn't to their satisfaction do full refund for the dish and free substitution. Can't ask for more. Fabulous place

User

Amazing evening at Riley’s fish shack! Delicious food and having a late drink just watched the staff clean down and to say it’s spotless is an understatement. They have scrubbed every inch of the place xx

User

I love this place, have been a few times and would recommend on the basis of the food, which is lovely....however be prepared for considerable disorganisation and very, very long waits...on the last few occasions, we have waited in the queue for, on average, 40 minutes just to place an order - and I genuinely can't fathom why it takes that long just to take orders.....then you wait about 45 mins for the food - generally by which time you have finished your drink that you bought to have with your meal, so then would have to queue another 40 mins for another drink....

I do love this place, but the high prices are that of a top end restaurant where you would NOT queue at a counter for 40 mins to place an order, nor wait a further lengthy time for food...and you would get clean toilet facilities (that don't leak!) and table service.

So yes I would recommend for the food and location, but be prepared for major disorganisation and to spend and awful lot of money on a very long wait...

Riley's; to address this, would it not help to maybe have a hand held device whereby someone could make their way down the queue taking orders? Or instead of getting drinks at the point of order, they are delivered to the table by the waiting staff?

Also, sorry, but the loo needs a good sprucing up!! I do love the place, the concept, the food and vision and I will be back, but some little tweaks would make it truly spectacular.
