Rnli - Amble Lifeboat Station Description

Amble lifeboat crew have been presented with 18 awards for gallantry, including the first ever medals to be awarded for a rescue in an inshore lifeboat. The RNLI’s last Waveney class lifeboat left service from Amble.
The Institution placed a lifeboat at Amble in 1842 but it appears from records that it was closed in 1852 when a station was opened at Hauxley. A list of lifeboats dated 1848 shows that a lifeboat, built by Wake of Sunderland in 1828, was at Amble in 1848. This boat was previously at Blyth where in 1841 it capsized with the loss of 10 men. The station was re-established in 1939 when Hauxley was closed. At that time Amble Harbour had been well dredged by the Air Ministry. The lifeboat is kept afloat.

It has been a busy week around the station this week, we’ve had relief Severn class 17:17 Fraser flyer in the boatyard next door, delivery of Shannon class 13:26 John Metters to await being picked up Monday and head to Eyemouth for training and last but not least Eyemouth Shannon class 13:29 Helen Hastings bound for Home tomorrow after an overnight stop here and a wash down ready for her big arrival tomorrow

User

Today we will see the arrival of Eyemouth’s new #shannonclasslifeboat 13:29 arrive into Amble to refuel and spend the night in the marina as tomorrow is her last leg of the journey from Poole to her new home, we currently don’t have an arrival time for definite but for those who won’t be able to see her arrive at Eyemouth tomorrow she could be arriving with us between 2-3pm today

Service call update for the 6-11-18 Launch 08:20 Return 09:10 Wind SE 2 Sea state slight... Visibility moderate At the request of UK coastguard our ILB launched on service to reports of a person and 2 dogs cut off by the tide at church hill Alnmouth, our crew made best speed up the coast but once scene at the estuary our crew were unable to enter due to the lack of water at the entrance, Amble Coastguards and Howick coastguards were also tasked and were on scene at the same time and managed to find the casualty and 2 dogs safe and well in the hands of Northumbria police and gave some vital safety advice and safely got them out of harms way. Once established we were no longer needed the crew headed back for home and made ready for service once again.
Please remember when out walking that tides can come in very fast in some areas, and we are also forecast 5m + high tides for the next five days. Please take extra care over the next few days.
Remember, in an emergency at sea or on the coast, or if you think someone may be in difficulty, ALWAYS call the COASTGUARD by dialling 999

Service call update for 5-11-18 Launch 17:45 Return 19:05 wind SSE Sea state moderate ... Visibility moderate At 17:45 the UK coastguard requested the launch of Amble lifeboats to go to the aid of two angling boats 1/4 mile East of Coquet island, once on scene the ILB took the smaller of the two vessels in tow while the ALB took the larger one in tow and headed back to the harbour. Once safely inside the harbour the ILB put the casualty vessel alongside and headed up the river to its mooring were it was made secure to its mooring bouy then the ILB headed back down the river to rendezvous with the ALB and take up the tow of the other vessel since the tide was low and manoeuvrability is restricted through the moorings. Once safely moored up both boats returned to station and made ready for service

Last Sunday our boats launched on exercise but before they got under way with that they went and scattered some ashes from a member of our crews family, when they returned back at the station to disembark the guests they were handed two cheques one from the family and the other from the vintage rally, our thanks go out to you all for your generous donations and letting us help and be apart of the day you hold dear
