Our Daughter Rochelle and her New Husband Ben got married here on Friday 27th April 2018. The whole experience was Outstanding! Thank you to Elain and the whole Team. Having the Ceremony in the Orangery was Magical. The drinks Reception in the Old Hall afterwards was lovely and very chilled. The Food was delicious and served piping hot. The meals on each table were served all at the same time. In fact it was like watching synchronised swimming watching the waiting staff from my vantage point on the Top Table. Our Evening was wonderful in the Rockliffe Suite too. I must also say that our Toastmaster Robert was absolutely Brilliant!! He made the whole event run smoothly and without a hitch. He was there from early morning till the evening directing everyone and everything. The Photographer, Videographer and lot of the guests thought he was Fantastic! Thank you so much Robert. Overall a Wonderful day to remember forever. Thanks to all involved. Mrs Sharon Casey (Mother of the Bride)

My husband and I stayed for the Foodie Heaven deal for one night. What a fabulous place! Attention to detail, friendly and professional staff and mouth watering food in the Orangery made our stay just perfect. The Spa and pool facilities were spotless and very relaxing. Just what we both needed. Hoping to be back later this year.

Lovely time with my daughter in the spa garden Friday evening followed by some beautiful cocktails in the bar. We just felt so relaxed and chilled out, chatting and listening to the pianist. Comfiest beds meant for a great nights sleep. We had a great spa day today, the sun was shining, so nice to enjoy views from the infinity pool and loungers. Excellent back massage and facial by Erin 10 out of 10 for that girl sorting out the knots in my shoulders. My skin felt gorgeous. Food wise we had room service and omg the celeriac soup was out of this world and really good crayfish in the sandwich. Great breakfast menu, very hard to decide what to go for and the staff were very accommodating when we requested something alternative. We had lunch in the Brasserie as part of our spa day package, again hard to decide what to go for as many options available my tempura prawns with sweet chilli dressing on the salad was perfect. We had a really lovely time, the staff were very helpful and friendly, the hotel very clean and situated in lovely grounds. Can’t wait to come again!

Love love love this hotel & Spa.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the weekend. So lucky to have one of the best Spas in the UK so close.

The attention to detail is why you are 5*, no doubt about it.

I would like to give a special shout out to my spa therapist Bethany, I rarely leave from having a massage and think “that was AMAZING!” We’ll be back xxx

User

Just stayed here overnight and we had a great stay. There are a lot of negative reviews on here but we had a great time. The staff were very attentive and we even got upgraded to a junior suite. The whole experience was very good, especially since it was a free stay that we got with our new car when we bought it. Great place, beautiful grounds and good staff. This was our experience and I would recommend it.

User

Just returned home after a lovely night here, our first ever childfree night away. DO NOT use the directions from this page instead of a Satnav, you will end up 45mins away like we did could have been there an hour or more earlier and made use of the spa before dinner!

We ate in the brasserie, I had prepaid when I booked, very expensive and not 5* although lovely, not worthy of the prices. Had cocktails in the cocktail bar which was a lovely end to the night, all staff were amazing during our stay. We stayed in the old hall and our room was amazing, wish we could have had another night there to really explore and get our monies worth. We would love to return, but wouldn’t prepay for a meal!

Just a little message to let you know my wife and I are over the moon we had our wedding breakfast at Rockliffe Hall on 6th July, the whole day was "Perfect" as we expected it would be when choosing this 5 star venue. We thought it would only be polite to let you know how pleased us, and all our guests were with the day. Can we give a extra special thank you to Colin (food/dining manager) & Robert (Toast Master) who both went out of there ways to do everything and more to make sure my wife and I had as little stress and as much enjoyment as humanly possible. They both made it known by person by coming over to see my wife or I whenever they could (certainly not over the top either) to make sure everything was going to plan or just for a friendly chat. When we arrived at the reception first we noticed there was a place missing (which we had changed on the wedding morning) This was not a problem to Colin and got this sorted before the guests arrived to sit down. Please pass on our gratitude to all your staff for there hard work they put in on our day, (Special thanks again to Colin & Roberts) One small fault we noticed on the evening was the limited number of bar staff (2/3 for 200 people) and people were queuing for quite some time to get served. All in all a very big thank you to Rockliffe Hall, ad all your wonderful staff, we'll be back soon for another stay and visit the spa garden. Ross & Michelle Mitchell

I couldn’t find one fault with the hotel, and believe me, I am fussy, if anything I felt out of place, from driving to hotel entrance, my car was taken off me, bags taken to room before we even got there, spa second to none, everybody at the hotel genuinely helpful, and even upon leaving my car was brought to me and bags placed in the boot, what more could you ask for ? Will be going again definitely 👍

User

Have been to Rockliff a few times and it was always a great experience. Staff is very nice and helpful! Don’t understand why people complaint about prices for food and drinks- it’s a 5 star hotel and of course the prices won’t be the same as it would be in 3 star hotel or in a shop! It’s the same as you would go to the pub and pay £10 for 3 course lunch or go to the Michelin restaurant and pay £120 for 3 course lunch! The spa is very popular and sometimes it will be very busy - it’s not the hotels fault! We had dinner in a Clubhouse - the food was really nice! Amazing grounds to walk around in a nice weather! Will definitely be back!

User

Had a full day spa experience with lunch included. Absolutely loved it from start to finish. Staff were polite, helpful and professional. Spa areas excellent, clean, and varied in treatment areas. Roman sauna, steam room, foot baths , hydrotherapy suite, plenty of seating areas . Facial was brilliant ,,,, lunch was lovely great food and service. Will defo be back!!!!!

User

From the moment you drive into Rockcliffe your troubles seem to melt away, the welcome is always friendly and the staff can't seem to do enough for you, the check in is fast and effective in letting you know where everything is in relation to your room,

The old hall superior room we stayed in was stunning and so well equipped, the bath was a lovely size and the TV on the tiles lets you while away a little longer in the bath tub!

Leaving the room for dinner the soft music coming from the live pianist is always a good start to the evening, the menu in the Brasserie was excellent and the service top notch!

A late drink the residents bar is a must, of course some rooms are nicer than others..

Come morning there was a tiny issue with the water which was resolved before it became a problem, The Breakfast was excellent and the buffet as well gave some good options to compliment the cooked breakfast.

Then it was off to the Spa which is one of the nicest Spa's I have been too in the UK!

Always do the Garden Spa before you leave and remember have fun, and try the golf driving range (free to hotel guests)

User

Fantastic service from the reception through to treatment . outstanding attentive service by the Brasserie staff . outstanding food and drinks. Warm and informative Gym staff. Fabulous cleanliness and hygiene throughout the Rockliffe facilities. Definitely recommend to friends and family. Return visit highly recommended. 5 star and beyond!! This has been one of the best spa breaks I have been on and one of the closest to me. The food was outstanding, all the staff very welcoming and friendly and there for whatever our needs were. The hotel itself was so clean, and immaculately decorated. I felt like a millionaire for the two days I was there. The house we stayed in was lovely, very spacious, modern and clean. It had everything we could possibly need. The gym was also fab, lots of equipment which was top of the range, plenty of choices of classes and again, very friendly helpful staff. The spa area was so lovely with plenty of choices ie hydropool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room to name a few and the treatments with the package were fantastic. I had a full body massage. I would definitely recommend Rockcliffe Hall to everybody and anybody. Thank you for your amazing service and a stay to remember!!!

Just spent 2 days at Rockcliffe Hall, we stayed in one of there houses, as part of a wedding guest, we had a dog with us and nothing was any trouble, we had everything we wanted, thy even left dog treats. The big day arrived, we were in the Orangery, I can only say what a fantastic venue, I found the staff extremely friendly and very helpfully, one of us had been in hospital and was allowed out to see his Grandaughter married,Robert the toast master, went beyond his call of duty when he felt cold, bringing blankets, cups of tea, when we decided to take him back to hospital, Robert was fantastic, he managed to keep my meal warm for me, so when I cane back from Darlington my meal was waiting for me.

The next morning we had breakfast and what a breakfast, loads of toast, coffee and tea, the full English was delicious, choice of eggs, there was plenty of fruit and cereals as well, 10 out of 10 for all the staff, even the cheif, as we all something different

The biggest bug was the price of the drinks£9 for a Gin and tonic, a glass of coke £4-50 it wasn't a bottle or can so it wasn't good, tried a shandy £6-00, maybe make your drinks cheaper and people might pay more.

A fantastic wedding day and everyone enjoyed it, well done to you all and Robert , thank you for your help.

User

Well overall the stay was absolutely amazing in everyway until we came home to search for the gorgeous bottle of wine we had at dinner. We were charged £153 for the bottle at Rockcliffe only to find the exact same one for £23.99 online and yes it was exactly the same as I took good pictures of the bottle as we liked it so much. There are marks ups and piss takes and this was the latter! Very disappointed!!!

User

I stayed here for my Birthday last year and this hotel comes no where close to a 5 star! I will agree that the grounds are beautiful, stunning in fact BUT the staff in the hotel are rude and do not have the correct social skills to be able to deal with issues. I won't go into too much detail but they got my booking incorrect and would not take responsibility, the rooms were dark and not to my taste, tried to make spa bookings in advance but no reply to email or telephone message (who would have thought it would have thought that it would be that difficult to give £300 away for treatments). Oh and to top it off, the maid decided to come into the room without knocking first, it's a good job I was dressed! It lacked all of the special touches that a hotel of 5 star status should I'm afraid Hopefully as it was a while ago, things may have improved!

What was meant to be a relaxing children free night turned out to very distressful. We had a lovely time in the spa garden and fabulous meal in the brasserie. Couldn’t have faulted the service. However, at 6:15am this morning we were rudely awoken to the lights flickering and then a loud incessant buzzing which went on for two and a half hours. There had been a power cut across the area. Despite several phone calls and me going to reception twice bursting into tears due to extreme tiredness when I realised I couldn’t get back into the room, due to the keys being electronic the power came on.

During the cut, there wasn’t any water, we were told we could use the showers in the spa these ended up not working properly either. We were unable to use the spa until the power was back on. I asked if breakfast was going to be extended due to the cut, I was told “No!” We rush around the spa, had a quick swim, quickly went to shower, get ready and go for breakfast.

When we went to pay, we explained our situation only to be told that management had made the decision NOT to offer any kind of compensation as the matter was out of their control. This I find absolutely appalling and incredibly poor in terms of customer relations. Whilst I understand that the power cut was out of the hotel’s hands surely when their customers are paying an awful lot of money to stay for one night, a compensatory gesture would support relations between hotel and client. I have found the whole experience yesterday marred by the response we received this morning, hence the two stars.

User

I was really disappoint with the restaurant service. When arriving had my complimentary drink spilt on me however they did clean my clothes. Filled in our forms for pre ordering our lunch. However waited 45 mins for the food and service was slow I had to ask twice to be served. This is the second time this has happened in the restaurant. However other parts of my day were good and spa always lovely and so was treatment.

Food poisoning!

Have been to Rockliffe a few times and was a complete fan! However, be careful before you spend your money from now on Rockliffe don’t value you, it’s a wedding factory and it’s become 3* service

With 5* prices!

Don’t be fooled if they offer you a free room upgrade like they did us, it doesn’t make the experience any better! We visited in June (high season) and if they’ve got lots of available rooms for upgrades, that speaks volumes... Overpriced, littered grounds with coke cans and kebab boxes, hairs in the shower, rubbish service and food in the brassiere and even worse in the clubhouse as my boyfriend and I both got sick from eating there (I’m sure Rockliffe will post a pompous reply with how we didn’t fill in a food complaint form regarding our food poisoning so therefore there was no proof, however we both had exactly the same to eat and both were unwell for a few days and also if you read further Facebook reviews you’ll see other reports of Rockliffe Hall food related illnesses... not good!). We checked out and drove home at 1:30am we felt so rough.

I emailed Rockliffe CEO, Mr Elliot, to let him know we’d been a few times and it was off the mark this time however it never made it to him and was intercepted. The reply I received was unacceptable and just apologised repeatedly for the failures. They offered a free room upgrade as compensation the next time we booked but as I tried to say to them, we had a room upgrade this time and the experience was still rubbish so how it would be better another time I don’t know!

Rockliffe Hall should have taken responsibility for the errors , accept it failed in almost all areas and provided compensation for us. In doing this, we would have felt valued as a guest of Rockliffe as it would be obvious they would wish to welcome us again and demonstrate to us how our feedback had been acted upon. However, in them

asking for us to pay to see this is shameful on Rockliffe’s account and makes us feel extremely undervalued. I think everyone reading this review would know we are unlikely to run the risk of paying again to receive the substandard service therefore in effect the hotel is ‘brushing the complaint under the carpet’ knowing we will not return. Unfortunately for this hotel the bad reviews you read on Trip Advisor Facebook/Expedia etc are true and be careful before you book. If you catch them on a good weekend it is amazing but if not, it’s rubbish and don’t expect your money back!
