This was my first Screenage Kicks event so I didn't Know what to expect. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening, plenty of sugar, & loads of laughs. Augustus was amazing, as were the antics from the grandparents & Veruca was hilarious. I agree some amateur moments, however what do we expect for £20 these days? Loved the setting & the atmosphere. Hope to be able to attend more events like this. Thank you for your hard work!!

User

These events are incredible, every event I have been to has been amazing and so perfectly done.

I have had some of the best nights of my life here.

I really hope there is more to come.

Absolutely fantastic :-).

User

Really fun night out! I laughed so much. What a great atmosphere, sweets galore and plenty of other naughty surprises to keep us all entertained.

User

My all time fav movie was brought to life last night and it did not disappoint. and what about that setting WOW !! My only wish was if you had thrown more sweets to the back haha x

User

Loved every minute from the start at the Castle Keep and that outrageous French accent, right to the end of the screening. Couldn't have asked for a better night and never expected it to be anything like this. The food and drink was great and we really enjoyed searching for the unholy grails in St Nicholas Cathedral before the film - still can't believe Craig beat me to it. Can't wait for the next ones. Completely different type of night on the town. Thanks again!!

Love Screenage Kicks! Brilliant night every time...it really is fully immersive with the lighting, actors, dancing and even bubbles! Brought a whole new level of enjoyment to classic film! Would recommended to anyone!

User

Last night was incredible, everyone worked so hard to make such an amazing production, exactly the kind of event we need in the city bursting with fun and positivity. Such an atmospheric and vibrant night throughout! P.s. People complaining of lack of sweets obviously didn't notice the edible trees and boxes of sweets around the room, oh well more for me!

User

Just got home from the second one of these nights I've been along to, and once again the guys put on an amazing show.

Screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in a semi circus themed tent. Lots of Street and interactive theatre woven into the night, and a great party atmosphere from the crowd. I saw Grandpa's Joe, a burlesque Willy Wonka, dancing Umpa Lumpas, sugar being poured, golden tickets being found, and some great renditions of key film moments from the team of actors. Plus a fine band to boot.

Great night, and a fabulous celebratory atmosphere.

Looking forward to whatevers next.

User

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my recent Screenage Kicks experience in the marvellous Spiegeltent location - perfect venue for their immersive Willy Wonka screening. The live actors were very good with particular standouts being Augustus Gloop, Verruca Salt (petulant in a hilariously OTT way) and Violet Beauregard who at one point ballooned up and waddled among the audience - fantastically madcap fun perfect for Wonka!

The live music was great and the "adult" aspects with the burlesque artistes were great in a wtf way given the normal child-like way Willy Wonka is usually perceived - I'll never hear Def Leppards "Pour some sugar on me" in the same way again!! Brilliantly done :-). Another fabulously madcap event from the folks at Screenage Kicks. To those reviewers who were disappointed I'm not sure why or what they were expecting exactly but I thoroughly enjoyed the evening as did many others judging by the raucous singing along and huge grins I saw on the faces of those near me :-)

Fantastic evenings entertainment and fantastic value for a classic film live music and performers. Can't wait to see what they do next, whatever it is - count me in!!!

User

Been to two events now and the team work so hard and go all out each time to guarantee you'll have an amazing time. Get yourself to the next one!!

User

Been to a few of their events, and they're always amazing. They put in so much effort and imagination to create some really startling experiences.

User

Another superb night from screenage kicks. Their presentation of Willy Wonka was a candy coloured carnival of chaos. A great night out from them as usual. Highly recommended . They are the music makers, They we are the dreamers of dreams.

User

Absolutely fantastic production! First time going and I was blown away, I was crying from laughter on more than occasion and I cannot wait for the next one already! Everyone was super friendly from the crowd to the staff that I felt like I was amongst friends. Big up Screenage Kicks team!!!

User

A cracking Holy Grail evening - well done Screenage Kicks! We smiled/laughed from start to finish. It was the perfect alternative to the same old 'night out' and if you haven't been before, then you are missing out! Highly recommended

User

What a lovely idea; a proper party atmosphere that heightened the emotions and made the film so much more poignant.

The execution was a little clumsy; bunch-of-mates-having-a-laugh style, and the pre-show entertainment ditched any nuances of the movie in favour of cheap laughs (grandpa Joe crotch dancing with a fake cock, burlesque nurses etc.) but the whole experience made the film come alive.

The whole room booed when Slugsworth appeared, and erupted into ecstasy when Charlie finally found his golden ticket. As unpolished as it was, that kind of pantomime-level immersion in a movie just does not exist anywhere this side of the 1940's. Except at Screenage Kicks.

User

The setting was stunning, the reality of the show disappointing. all very amateur. Augustus, Verruca ("daddy says I don't queue for pizza") and violet were funny, willy had no presence at all - surely he could have presented the event, the embarrassing quiz ("you've come to a gene wilder tribute and no one knows anything"- no we came to a willy wonka event) and hosted- not the owner guy who was always around and forcing cheers out of us. The old folks were just plain weird- not in a gene wilder/dahl-esque way! The bar was a mess- quicker to go to the airstream van outside each time. We had expected so much from the hype, but sadly it came accross all a little cheap, rushed and forced. Trying to hear the film through chat (a little isn't so bad) some people around us left as they weren't impressed. 5* are for the film, and 3* for the few chuckle moments.cdnt help feeling some of the great reviews are staff and friends of the owner.. maybe me being sceptical.

User

I’m not too sure I went to the same showing as everyone else on here. The Willy Wonka showing had such hype, and it simply didn't deliver.

The host said he wanted everyone who was there to leave feeling sick, there was that much sugar, however we weren't offered a single confectionary item for the whole duration.

The amateur dramatics were just that. Half the time, they didn’t know the songs they were miming along to.

You had such an opportunity to deliver a WOW experience and unfortunately I think you missed it.

Perhaps next time!

User

Got all excited for the fun and mountain of candy that was going to take place last night, even got dressed up as Slugworth. Turned out my costume was better than the Screenage Slugworth who looked very reminiscent of a Blues Brother.

However I was soon disappointed and got not one sweet, only one cupcake begrudgingly given. I was only half way down the queue to get in and they had run out if free donuts and chocolate fountain food by the time got in, the fountains by the way were about 6 inches tall and looked like they came from Poundland.

I assume from the ticket sales you would have an idea of how many people would have been coming through the door.

Not really sure the immersive element helped my enjoyment either as the actors were all rather student drama club. Played with one joke, the characters danced in a faux sexy manner with each other and some uncomfortable looking members of the audience. The spotlight shined on them only served to light up the screen so we couldn't see the film and didn't really add much more than a distraction.

The quiz ended dismally after being told we all knew nothing about Gene Wilder at a Gene Wilder tribute night, I as many others thought we'd come to see Willy Wonka (not Willy Wonker as the board outside advertised).

We left and went to Tesco to buy some sweets...3 packets for £1, which I'm sure some of my £20 ticket fee could have been better spent on.

Disappointing guys, think a lot of these positive reviews might have been at a different show, or maybe working in it.
