Sensory Explorers

About Sensory Explorers

An exciting sensory experience for you and your baby which is designed to stimulate the pathways in your babies brain and encourage a healthy development.

Sensory Explorers Description

My name is Gemma and I am the founder of Sensory Explorers. I am a qualified teacher of 7 years and studied child development for 6 years. I have a great insight into babies brain development and the importance of early bonds and attachments with parents and caregivers. I left my job as a Teacher in August 2015 after my maternity leave ended and made the decision to start Sensory Explorers. I attended several baby groups with my son and not only did they help his development, but it gave me the chance to meet other mams who I remained good friends with. I am so excited to meet all of you parents and your little explorers to pass on my knowledge and share magical moments with you at Sensory Explorers.

Sensory Explorers is a Parent and Baby Group designed to encourage your babies physical and brain development. Babies are born with many sensory pathways in their brains which disappear if they are not reinforced. Sensory Explorers select activities in their sessions which encourage use of all of the five senses reinforcing all of your babies sensory pathways and help your little explorers to develop and reach key milestones such as sitting, crawling or even talking. These activities include messy play, music, exercising, sensory domes and much more fun!

I hope to hear from you soon <3

Did you know that the vestibular system is what helps unborn babies turn head down in preparation for birth? We use a variety of activities at Sensory Explorers to help develop your babies vestibular system. Any activity that safely rocks, rolls, bounces or swings your baby provides them with vestibular stimulation. This aids the development of babies balance, muscle tone, coordination, spatial awareness, posture and eye movement.

Popcorn!!!! 🍿
This is one of my favourite activities at Sensory Explorers! Apart from loving the catchy tune, here are the benefits of this activity:
* Promotes babies social interaction skills... * Improves hand-eye coordination * Develops babies eye tracking * Gives babies a sense of rhythm * Strengthens babies upper torso * Enhances babies language development

Hop little bunnies hop hop hop! 🐰
Babies worked really hard on developing the strength in their neck and back muscles today. We used specific movements in our action songs to help with babies balance, and also encouraging the younger babies head support. Our new tummy time gym was a big hit with those babies who aren’t keen on spending time on their tummies too 👌👌 Well done babies, what an awesome term! Xx

Someone has definitely missed their little friend in class. These two explorers were adorable today, it’s amazing how confident the babies become after just a couple of terms 🧡🧡🧡

Look at the concentration on this little ones face 😍 this week his Mam worked really hard to help develop his hand control. Even when prized open, babies natural response will be to clench their fists back again and tuck in their thumb. A position learned when inside the womb. In class this week his Mam opened his hand and placed it around an egg shaker. When he shook the shaker and heard the noise it made, it helped develop his understanding that his hands are in fact attached to his body and he can control them. Here he is practicing more hand control and developing his pincer grasp which will help him prepare for independent tasks such as feeding himself with a spoon.

Win one free session in our Autumn Term by commenting with a photo of your baby with one of our puppets in class. Best photo wins. Winner will be picked tomorrow evening.
Why do we use puppets at Sensory Explorers?
... Babies are given the opportunity to get up close to our puppets during classes. They really do help your babies development by stimulating their imaginations and creativity. We use both finger puppets and hand puppets. Finger puppets are used by grown ups in our action songs to help with babies hand eye coordination. Babies reach up for them as their grown ups hide and then reveal them, also helping babies understanding of object permanence. We have a variety of hand puppets too which your group leader will introduce to your babies. They engage and interest your babies in a fun way which sparks babies curiosity. We often see babies pulling them in for a little cuddle 🧡

Today we focussed on babies hand control. When babies are born their hands are usually always in a clenched fist. By the end of their first year you can expect to see them stacking and even turning pages. We used egg shakers today as the noise they make when shook helps babies to understand that their hands are attached to their bodies. Babies around 6 months old will also start to mimic clapping and other hand movements which we demonstrated in some of our action songs today. Well done babies you were amazing as always! Xx

How very true 😩🙈😂

It can take your babies up to 6 months to learn how to release objects from their grips. They don’t master hand control until towards the end of their first year where you can expect to see them stack blocks and even turn pages. At Sensory Explorers we give babies opportunities to practise the skills needed to help develop their hand control. These oats are ideal for babies to grip and then release. The pouring actions also encourage babies hand eye coordination as well as their language development as their grown ups talk them through the actions such as scoop and pour.

My son and I love it here. Gemma is very thoughtful when creating new experiences as my son is dairy intolerant and she goes out of her way to buy dairy free products so he does not miss out.

I highly recommend this group and love all the photos as the time goes so quickly so it's great to see them all having fun xxx

I’ve been bringing my daughter to sensory explorers since she was 12 weeks old she is now 7 months and what a wonderful class it is. Gemma is lovely and really makes you feel welcome. The sessions change every week with a different theme.

The facilities are great, I left my changing bag in the car and Gemma had everything available so I didn’t have to leave the session to get it, she provided wipes, nappies changing facility everything you need. I would highly recommend this group to anyone! 10 out of 10.

Well done Gemma
