About Spennymoor Youth And Community Association

Spennymoor Youth & Community Association is a Charity Incorporated Organisation (1170497) that provides a range of activities for Children, Young People and Adults in Spennymoor and the surrounding areas.

Spennymoor Youth And Community Association Description

Spennymoor Youth and Community Association is a Registered Charity (CIO) working in Spennymoor and surrounding areas.

The centre was built in 1969 and has gone by a number of different names over the years including Spennymoor Open Youth Club, Spennymoor Youthy and our current legal name is Spennymoor Youth and Community Association.

In January 2016 the management committee started the process of taking on the centre through the Durham Ask (Community Asset Transfer). This transfer was agreed in October 2016 and we are currently in the process of agreeing a new 30 year lease for the building.

We have some ambitious plans for 2017 including replacement of the windows (July /August 2017) to make the building more energy efficient and reduce running costs. Plans for later in the year also include (subject to receiving the funding) replacement of the boiler and associated pipework for the building.

We have just had a new door access / entry system installed along side a new CCTV system. The external of the building has also been painted with special anti carbonisation paint which has improved the look of the building.

We will be over the next few months updating you all as to what is happening and out plans to continue to offer Children and Young People access to Youth Work Activities. So please watch this space.

Amazing effort by Community Champion Michael Elliott to raise funds to help Spennymoor area residents during the covid lockdown.
Thank you so much! All funds raised will pay for emergency parcels delivered by volunteers direct to those in need who are vulnerable and self isolating.
If you can afford a donation, please make one, every penny raised will help us save lives and beat this virus!

The Centre is open now until 1pm for COVID support donations of food and toiletries.
Tinned meats, tinned veg, cereals etc dried goods and long life items will help us get more emergency parcels to those in need who are self-isolating. We are off Merrington View, Rushmoor (next to North Park Primary School)
We’ve been blown away by your generosity so far but there is a long way to go still and every parcel we can deliver will help keep people safe.
... Please leave items in the lobby and keep your distance if others are dropping off. Don’t make extra shopping trips to donate.
If you are isolating and can afford to donate via PayPal, all funds raised will pay for more parcels. So far we have received over £1,400 in individual donations. http://paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/charity/3 614700

Hi I am looking to raise some much needed funds for my local community group Helping Spennymoor. They are a group that are creating and delivering care packages for the most vulnerable in our community who are self isolating during the Covid-19 outbreak.
I will be raising funds by completing a marathon whilst wearing weighted body armour in the confines of my garden.
This will be the full 26.2 mile length or 42,195m which is 4219.5 laps of my garden.
... This will take place on the 17/04/20 at 09:00 and I will keep posting updates/live streams of the event.
Every donation is much appreciated and thank you. Michael Elliott

If you have spare food and toiletries to donate for emergency parcels which are helping vulnerable Spennymoor area residents through the COVID crisis, drop them off tomorrow (Thursdays) between 8am and 1pm. We are on Rushmoor off Merrington View, DL16 6PP (next door to North Park Primary School)
Leave them in the lobby and they will be collected. Stick to social distancing if others are dropping off and please don’t make extra shopping trips to buy items for donation.
Or if ...you have PayPal please give what you can afford http://paypal.com/gb/fundraiser/charity/3 614700
Thanks everyone who is making this happen! Together we are making a difference as one strong community 👏🏻
