Unfortunately we have been victim to a break-in during the early hours of this morning (5am). Nobody hurt and nothing taken in this attempt to steal money from the fruit machines. The ‘gentlemen’ were kind enough to capture themselves on multiple CCTV sources. Following their exit from the building, they proceeded past Sainsburys and towards the Bishop Cuthbert estate.
If anybody has seen anything or may be able to help in anyway, please speak with Jayson at the pub.

We often pop in for a drink when the weather is nice but decided to stay for lunch. Absolutely lovely very reasonable food came quickly. Friendly staff. Will definitely be back.

User

Visited here with friends recently and really enjoyed it the beers were great and well looked after and the staff were friendly and aproachable. Seems to be a realy well run pub well be back as we thoroughly enjoyed the night

User

I enjoy the pub, there is a good atmosphere, the staff are caring and the beer and food is good value.

User

After an issue getting a booking I cannot fault the service we received. When we went in the place was packed and we were told it would be a 45 minute wait for food however we waited no more than 25 minutes at most. The food was lovely and we felt we had an almost personal service as the lady that showed us to our table served us at the bar as soon as she saw us ready to order food. Thank you, we'll definitely come again, hope all your staff have had a nice Christmas

User

Great place

Modern

Clean

Good menus

But think portions are an issue....could fill plate with little extras e.g..coleslaw or peas or simply more of what you get....as you are paying good money for this.

User

Go to this pub all the time (for lunch) and its lovely. Staff are canny and prices very reasonable.

User

Refit is good , really like the new look. Only 2 issues ..1, it's freezing in there . The doors need sorting so that the outer one doesn't stick open and some sort of heater to heat the cold air in the space between the two doors. We'd reserved an area for 20 family members but ended up leaving early as it was freezing - even though the fire was on. Lost revenue for the pub can't be good.

2. The toilets ! One toilet wouldn't flush. Shouldn't really happen on the second night after a refit. However the staff were very helpful and friendly .

Such a shame

User

I felt the barmaid was a little rude, seemed a little more interested in questions from the regulars than me making my order. When I asked if I could have the ultimate burger and was about to request certain items I didn’t want on it, it was quickly dismissed with saying her it wasn’t available in unfriendly tone. All the staff seemed lovely and friendly, but I felt this certain barmaid didn’t have very good customer service. I would recommend the food as it was lovely and good value for money, barmaid annoyed me with her attitude. I hope I get one of the friendly staff on my next visit

User

Well took far to long to get our meal. And then when it came the fish was the size of a gold fish ya would win from a carnival. The belly pork was like eating rubber. Then we sat for ages waiting for our sweet so nope won't be going back to the tall ships. Oh and the car park malarkey having to put your reg in at the bar to confirm you were in the pub if you don't you get fined is this even legal absolutely will never go back to this establishment

User

We walked in and found a table right next to the fire which was great.

We ordered our food at the bar to find all the staff were all wearing jeans and trainers on which was quite unprofessional.

The actual pub it's self was looked loved and cosy but you would expect that having just been refitted.

The starters come I had prawn cocktail and my partner had some thing with mushroom, we didn't have no complaints about the starters until late the mains came out.

For the mains we both had the ultimate burgers. While we were waiting we were told that they had ran out of bacon but we didn't really have a problem with that.

When the main came out the burgers were very bland and they were burned as well as the chips.

We didn't eat our food although the staff at the bar did refund the money for the two mains.

The staff were very friendly and polite which helped ease the pain of being upset about the main. Finished our drinks and left. Won't be returning until they get a chef that can actually cook properly.

User

never again. drink prices over inflated. the pub practically empty yet 45 minutes after the starters were finished with, i had to ask where the rest of our meal was. oh, and the chips. bloody oven chips. nothing on my plate tasted of being cooked from scratch, just put in an oven ( oven chips) or microwaved. certainly nothing that warranted a long wait or repeated enquiries at the bar. wont be coming here again.

User

Well after getting stung for an £80 fine I won’t be eating there again. Robbing twats.

User

The dearest pint my husband has had after a game of golf ! .Between Christmas & New Year ! Parking fine for parking in the pub car park where he was a customer with 8 others that same day .Absolutely shocking safe to say he won't return & is seeking legal advice on this as on ringing the pub he was told he should have put his car reg down on a list at the bar. If you are a stranger to the pub how are you supposed to know this ? How many people read small signs on doors that someone holds open for a group to go inside. He was also told if he had a receipt for his pint he would be let off . Hello since when does one get a receipt at the bar !!. If there is CCTV footage of the car then there isCCTV footage of him entering the pub !

User

Poor show, Tall Ships. Went to meet my staff after a lovely team building day. Stayed for just over an hour in the beer garden. I never went inside the pub and others bought the two drinks and my partner had. Now slammed with a fine for parking at your establishment. Never in my history have I ever heard of such penalties. Apparently the registration has to be given to the bar to put in an iPad. How would I know this if I never stepped foot in the place? My parents ran pubs for years in busy town centres and dealt with parking quite differently. This is. Money making exercise and bad for your business. Not only will I and my family never go again but I will tell others to avoid at all costs. I have to pay it as we were in my son’s company car and I can’t have it come back on him but I will complain. As for signs saying it’s private parking, why would I ever think I had to pay there? You don’t at Sainsbury’s otherwise who would shop there? You are on the edge of town with nothing around you but a housing estate. Why would anyone think you couldn’t park there? It’s not like there’s anything nearby that prompt people to abuse your car park. It’s for your patronage only. Shame on you for exploiting your customers like this.

User

Not fussy eaters but wouldn’t recommend this. Waited almost an hour for the food and when it came it was inedible. Appalling customer service from the Team Leader on duty. Great for drinks but avoid the food at all costs

User

Have to say how disgusted I was at our visit tonight.

Poor service, exceptionally poor standard of some meals. Place was freezing cold, toilets left in a dirty condition by some visitors who were in such a state that they needed help standing never mind walking. A fight breaking out near where our 'family meal with children' was taking place, a lamp being knocked off the table, a young lad covered in blood!

This meal was booked at 5.30pm to avoid children seeing all this, however not being served until 7.30pm was and can only be described as ridiculous!

User

Can you give 0 stars??? Have 'supported' this place since it first opened. Unfortunately I just had my last drink in here tonight due to the completely unprofessional attitude of the current manager. The staff are all lovely. On first name terms with them. But tonight's experience was astoundingly bad. We were with a large group of regulars. The main doors and one of the fire doors were wedged open. As the night wore on, it became increasingly uncomfortable and cold due to the 'wind tunnel' effect so one of our group closed one of the doors. The manager rushed over and wedged extra doors open with no regard to the comfort of the customers who pay his and his staffs' wages. After asking why he had re opened the doors, his response was....'the bar staff are hot......if you close one door, I will open two'. We left our drinks and went elsewhere. Never experienced such arrogant disregard for paying customers in my life!! Avoid this place at all costs.

User

Bar staff seemed more interested in serving the regulars and having a crack on with them than serving new customers, then to top it off got a £80 fine this morning....for being parked in the car park whilst we were in the pub. I have since found out about putting reg in tablet at bar (none of the bar staff thought to enquire if we knew to do that, and as we were deep in conversation on the way in we didn’t notice the ‘ample signage’ )Good job I paid on my debit card so I have proof we were there legitimately....Won’t be back...Shame

User

Absolutely terrible. We booked for a family meal and told we needed to pre-order our meals. We ordered 2 weeks ago!! After being there an hour my mam was informed that the meal she ordered wasn’t an option (wouldn’t you think this would be checked before), apparently the menu had changed!!

Arrived for our booking at 5.30pm and apparently the plan was for food to come out at 6pm, by 6.30pm I had to buy Our 2 year old a snack to keep him going. We asked for the kids meals to be hurried up and they arrived at 7pm. 1 large fish fingers, beans that looked like they’d been in a microwave for 3hours and chips that tasted like they’d been warmed a few times!

Our main meals finally starting to come out at 7.30pm. My brother had finished by the time my meal came out.

The piri piri chicken had 1 spoon of sauce on it and half of it was so dry it was left!

We were sat on separate tables so wasn’t much of a “family meal”. There was a man seen walking to the toilet covered in blood, the toilets were disgusting.

Although we were given 20% off the bill i still feel we paid over what the meals were worth.

I’d recommend visiting dominos next door instead!!!
