Choice Grenfell is a wonderful tribute featuring some of the best of Joyce’s hilarious songs and monologues from Stately as a Galleon and School Nativity Play to A Terrible Worrier and First Flight. Joyce is our guide for a delightful delve into some of her most endearing characters, ably accompanied by her trusted pianist William Blezard.
We are delighted that the family of William Blezard have allowed us access to previously unpublished rehearsal recordings and personal let...ters from Joyce allowing a unique insight into the queen of comediennes.
As Joyce would have said, “We request the pleasure of your company”.
With Suzanne Walters as Joyce Grenfell and Andrew D Brewis as William Blezard.
Additional material written by Simon Downing.
Sketches by Joyce Grenfell are presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD, a Concord Theatricals Company.

Translated into many languages, his songs and music have been used in film, TV and ballet. Paul recently composed specially commissioned music for BBC films, and worked with full orchestra and choir in Russia to produce his PAPILLONS work for ballet, together with Swiss artist Jurg Gabele.
Many other artists have performed and recorded his songs, including ELKIE BROOKS singing “Too much between us” for her hit album ”Pearls 2, and more recently BONNIE TYLER singing “Forget he...r” on her Free Spirit album
Paul is still writing and touring, and celebrated his 70th birthday in 2015 with a spectacular concert in Goseck, a beautiful castle in Germany with 600 people in attendance. A live album ‘FULL MOON OVER GOSECK’ was released, with Paul’s regular band featuring Butch Coulter on harmonica and guitar, Ingo Rau on bass, and Vladi Kempf on drums. He was joined by long-time friend Nick Pentelow on saxophone and his son Andreas Millns on keyboards.
Recently Paul recorded his 20th album, ‘A LITTLE THUNDER’, a studio CD with 14 new songs, already highly acclaimed in Europe.
“If there is any justice in the musical world, he would be filling the biggest halls in the land” THE SCOTSMAN
“His music defies categories, spanning earthy blues, love ballads, soul rock and jazz. He has one of the most expressive voices you will ever hear, and he uses it to bring out all the emotions he packs into some superb lyrics” MUSIC WEEK
“A charismatic performer” DAILY TELEGRAPH
“A singer- pianist- composer to make Elton John shiver in his shoes – a fusion of jazz and blues, a voice burning with emotion” EVENING NEWS

An evening of Blues, Funk, Folk & Soul performed by three local musicians.
Alan Furneaux Influenced by the blues, Dylan and Donovan, Crosby Stills Nash and Young and JJ Cale Alan’s emphasis has always been the groove, the rhythm, the flow, the feel, that thing that gets the feet tapping and the heart pumping.
... Malcolm Star Blues, Folk, Funk and Soul are Malcolm’s main influences. He would love to be mistaken for Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, Marvin Gaye or Van Morrison.
Frank Nomad Singer-songwriter Frank Nomad performs acoustic folk with an edge. He has a unique and exciting voice that is used to good effect in expressing his personal point of view through his own original songs or in his interpretations of Leonard Cohen, Dave Van Ronk or Bob Dylan and others.

Went to see Mawkin perform. We had never been to The Acorn before, so were unsure as to where to go and sit. A very pleasant and helpful volunteer told us about the facilities and what time the doors opened. We went down to the bar, which had a small stage with a big screen showing what was happening upstairs in the main room. We then went up to the gig. We weren't in rows but sat around tables and watched a fabulous set by Mawkin. We were talking to a couple at our table and she is also a volunteer.

So, to finish this epistle(!) this is a lovely theatre, staffed by very friendly and helpful volunteers. I recommend you go to see something there!

User

I have held an exhibition at the Acorns on the 2nd of June and i have been thoroughly nicely surprised, not only to meet up with lots of familiar faces but also to meet a lot of new faces and spread my art business like tentacles. An amazing experience. Good things come to thise who wait. Better things come to those who go out and get them.
