About The Admiral Benbow

The Benbow is West Cornwall's most famous "Pirate Pub". Nautical nick nacks, bits of shipwreck and the largest collection of anchors in the west ! Cosy surroundings, good food great booze. Serving Smugglers, Pirates and Rum since 1695.

The Admiral Benbow Description

The Admiral Benbow is a unique pub and restaurant with a worldwide reputation and a famous history.

Its interior houses a fascinating collection of maritime artefacts rescued from numerous shipwrecked vessels which foundered on the Cornish coast during the last 400 years.

Many of its treasures are incorporated into the fabric of the building and the Captain’s Cabin restaurant is an amazing example of this with its fine woodwork from a Portuguese Man O’ War.

The Lady Hamilton lounge is home to a magnificent cannon and ships figure head. The upstairs bars have extensive views over Penzance harbour towards St Michael’s Mount.

One of the oldest drinking houses in Penzance, the Admiral Benbow has been in existence since the 17th Century. Popular too with the famous, its visitors have included Gregory Peck, the Rolling Stones and recently the lead singer from Madness.

Today it serves a wide variety of beers, wines and spirits including an excellent selection of real ales and fine wines.

The restaurant has a full a la carte menu offering a huge variety of dishes including local seafood. Vegetarian diners are well catered for. Daily specials are available.

Food is available daily from 12pm – 2. 30pm and 6pm – 9. 30pm.

Thanks to Gary and the boys from the Groove Lounge ! Last Saturday’s packed out session in the Top Deck raised pulses and temperatures as some of the finest grooves this side of the Tamar were slapped on the decks for the assembled throng. It was lovely to see so many friendly faces, hopefully we can throw a few more nights like this one! if you liked it follow our page!

Rumblings from the lower ranks about a so-called 'Groove Lounge' arriving at the Benbow on August 18th. Our deckhand Bert was asking if it came with a three piece suite...'Get Down, Get Down on the floor Bert you flare wearing grog swallower, its not that kind of a lounge' !

We just love this place! There is such character and the staff and owner are all fabulous and our dog now knows there are treats behind the bar

The food is super! My steak last week was cooked medium rare and to perfection!

Not a place to miss when you are in Penzance!

User

We have lunch or dinner in Admiral Benbow every year on our holibobs. Love the food, and the staff are very friendly. The steak pie is my favourite as the seasoning is prfect.Just love the ambience of the place and there is always something different to watch out for round every corner.

User

We had dinner here last night and the food and service were amazing. We had the butterflied mackerel and lemon posset (both delicious) but I reckon everything from their kitchen would be good. We were quite impressed!

User

We had an absolutely wonderful family meal at The Benbow to celebrate the hanging up of the new sign painted by my partner Neil for the pub. The food was really delicious, especially the fish and the steak and ale pie, and the service could not have been better. Thank you!

User

Thank you again to all the Benbow staff for hosting all of us crazy festival folks on May Horns! Great food (ooh spicy chicken wings!) and atmosphere!

User

Real quirky bar/restaurant. Food was fantastic, I had the fish of the day which was over baked with veg and baby new potatoes. It was gorgeous. I don't like sauce, butter etc. With my fish just simple and plain and I got exactly what I asked for. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend.

User

Popped in for an early drink on my own and loved it!!! The girl behind the bar in FAB vintage was really friendly and welcoming. Great pub with great atmosphere!

I just love the atmosphere in this place. For years the previous owner closed off the wonderful upstairs bar and thank you to the new owner for revealing this wonderful landmark watering hole. I wish them every success!

User

Great fish and chips, top quality beer and what a gem of a place! Staff very welcoming!

User

Good people and nice food. The pub is a history lesson

User

Full of charm and a great new Landlord supported by enthusiastic staff. The building and interior are utterly fascinating.. No pub like it that I've ever found

User

First time we've spent a while in Penzance, and this place came with a good recommendation. What an absolute gem of a find this pub is. Real ale, real food & really friendly staff. The interior is something else. Say no more, as it would spoil it. A real must for visitors to PZ.

User

Best pub in Cornwall everything about this place is friendly and fun

User

An amazing unique pub. Great atmosphere, great food, and great people.

User

A really great pub. Quirky decor, unusual and very interesting.

User

The portion size for catch of the day was toddler size, the staff didn't even check to see if your meal was ok

User

Ohh dear. Such a shame to see the place empty with no atwo sphere. Anybody know where Julie has gone. No choice of food because they have had *issues* suspect chef has left too. It used to be the best steak and ale pie in the country this from a man that has eaten a lot of pies. I wish the new landlord well but it's going to be a struggle without the best restaurant manager we know. One star because I can't take it off
