Yum!!

We brought our 15 month old son for Sunday lunch and it was the perfect family pub. The service was excellent - warm, friendly and attentive and the food was first rate!

We Sunday lunch was exceptional, perfectly cooked meats and freshly prepared vegetables that were a joy to eat.

3 clean plates all round and we will definitely be back!

We used the gorgeous coach house to host a surprise baby shower for my friend yesterday afternoon. I contacted the Black and Grey by telephone 2 days prior to enquire about prices/availability for their afternoon tea. After checking with the chef I was told that the afternoon tea could be done that day. However at the time I was unable to confirm whether we wanted it or not without speaking to the rest of the party. I thought it best to leave it but instructed them that I would ring back if we wanted to go ahead. The rest of party decided against it as they mostly wanted drinks rather than food, therefore I never rang back. However when we arrived we found the room had been set out for us to have afternoon tea. After checking with the bar staff they confirmed a message in their booking diary stated that we would confirm numbers on the day. I felt responsible and that my intentions had not been made clear. However the bar staff checked with the manager who came to speak to us direct. As the food had to be used that day they offered it to us for free as a goodwill gesture! All of our group were astounded at this level of genurosity! We still left a small payment for the food, which was delicious and really well presented. We can't thank you enough for this and I'm very sorry for the mix up. Both manager and staff were very understanding and apologetic, even though I was the one who thought I was at fault!

We stopped for a bit of lunch yesterday. There was a nice cosy feel to the place. And there was lovely, friendly young lady who served us. And She even gave us a bowl of fresh water for our dog too.

The food was amazing. We both had the heat burger that was topped with chilli served with chunky chips, and by the God the chips were chunky. They were gorgeous. The burger was so nice too. Would definitely recommend this place.

On a recent family holiday we liked Black and Grey so much we made a return visit. The staff were very accommodating,as we had a large party with disabled, toddler and a dog.The food was delious and a good price. Also a good drinks menu, including a good selection of gins and cocktails.Would definitely come back if we returned to the area.

My partner and I enjoyed a lovely meal here on the 8th of March and although it was very busy we enjoyed a lovely meal. I had the sea bass and my partner had steak, both cooked very well! The staff were friendly and attentive. Definatly well worth a visit, the cocktails are great .

I recently enjoyed the most delicious Sunday lunch at the Black and Grey Morpeth.I had the garlic mushrooms for starters which were fabulous ,my son loved them and wanted more. For Sunday lunch I had the lamb which was cooked to perfection, served with roast potatoes,Yorkshire pudding and the most amazing creamy mash and a selection of veg.

Highly recommend the Black and Grey lovely warm atmosphere with very friendly staff.

Black and Grey did me proud for a fantastic birthday afternoon tea, my compliments to the wonderful chef, she's a gem! The content, presentation and quality was a cut above what I've sampled elsewhere. To top it all, they are dog friendly, so my little pooch and her poochie pal were made very welcome too, with water put out for them straight away. Can't recommend this pub highly enough and with a lovely relaxed ambience, I shall certainly be back!

User

Absolutely fantastic place, staff were so friendly and helpful with my intolerance which I found lovely. The food was exceptional along with the drinks- everything came right on time. I would definitely recommend the black and grey -especially to anyone who hates leaving their dogs at home, I was able to take my little chihuahua which made me love the black and grey even more. Thank you! X

Had lovely meal last night, however they are taking Strongbow off the taps and replacing with Magners (yuk) so will probably not go back. Does the customer not come first. Staff said it was down to the brewery but think that surely the premises have a say. We were due to meet friends but has to defer them as 3 of them drank Strongbow only too 😥

User

No organisation, the girls who were serving were very apologetic however the manager wasn’t very professional at all and actually really rude. Won’t be going back, if you fancy afternoon tea would recommend going else where!

User

Had afternoon tea here. What a shambles! Took them 2 and half hours to get the food and drinks out. How it can take that long to bring sandwiches and cakes out I don't know. The sandwiches were plated up in filling per plate. So we had to pass the plates around the tables ourselves going up and down stairs. Girl on my table had a pot of tea. 20 mins later the milk appeared,10 mins after that the sugar!!! The scones were so dry. Elsewhere I've had a 3 course hot meal for 200 people quicker that they could bring sandwiches out! Cocktails were ridiculous too, £6 for a jar of ice with a squirt of drink like a Mr frosty from the 1980's. Staff were unorganized and rude. Certainly wouldn't bother having afternoon tea there again.

User

Bad service, bad attitude from manager! We had an organised hen night here and had to wait almost two hours for food and drink. When we did get something I had to ask for a fresh pot of tea as by the time the milk and sugar came it was cold. What food we did get was tiny portions. We had to pass the food around from table to table as they hadnt put much on so was not enough for all the guests even though we all paid £12 per person for afternoon tea or £16 for tipsy tea. Ive been to many afternoon teas but never one this bad! They gave free alcohol as an apology but being pregnant I asked for something none alcoholic and got attitude back. The managers comment was, this is free, if I give you exactly what you want then others will make orders.... I wasnt asking for much, just not to poison my unborn baby with the crap alcohol you were providing as yous couldnt provide a service we all paid for! I will not be returning and will tell everyone I know to stay clear of the place!

User

Absolutely shocking service. There was a large group of us who came tonight for afternoon tea and tipsy tea for my friends hen do. One of our friends already booked and was so organised by collecting all the money in and made a list of what everyone wanted. She was told she wouldn't need the list. When we got there and when asked about the afternoon tea staff looked confused as if they didn't know what we were talking about. Also got asked if we had a list which my friend didn't bring as she got told she wouldn't need a list as to just say what we wanted on the day. It took ages for it to come. Me and a 6 others were up stairs. We were given one pot of tipsy tea and two pots of tea. The tea was cold and the few cakes that were brought up were soggy and just awful. Sandwiches were missing, cups , sugar and milk were missing and so we're the scones. My friend complained to the manager and it was only after complaining that you pulled your fingers out and began to bring sandwiches and HOT tea and scones. Really bad service and not at all organised. Will NOT be recommending you to anyone and disgusting we didn't get any discount. Paid all that money for nothing.
