Since the revamp we pop in for a family meal and hopefully sit in the booths with the kids. We do recommend the sharing platters and the pizzas and the ribs n wings absolutely lush. The kids also think its great esp having pictures taken sitting on the Bull ��

Brilliant service and lovely staff. Me and my daughter came in to day and really enjoyed our self. The food is lovely complements to the chief. The pub looks amazing nice and fresh after refurbishment.

Been to the black Bull and had a lovely time. The staff are friendly and polite. The food is lovely highly recommend.

Went with my daughter for lunch. We saw the board outside and decided to sit in the sun in a booth in the garden. Had chicken burger fries and a drink for about £7 lovely

Refurb is great. Teething problems expected and not an issue, but don’t advertise that you sell craft gins when it’s Gordons and about 5 other gins you can buy in any supermarket in the world.

Not impressed the hop house 13 & brew dog pumps were both off

Not a big issue but when you have remodelled your bar on a micro brewery/craft ale bar these should be your main lines, especially when you have a big hop house sign on the wall

I liked The Bull before the refurb and I like it since the refurb. Food is good value too.

I just wish the staff would show some consistency with prices - some staff members will take your order for the meal deal ( meal and a drink ) and allow you to pay the difference in the price of the drinks if you you want something other than the cheaper drinks listed as part of the deal. Some will only allow you to order exactly what is listed, and some like last time split the deal because the drinks were "not on the list" and charged for everything seperately so basically I got a no deal meal deal.

Just let us know with some certainty and consistency what can and can't be included

because at present it seems to depend on wether the staff can be bothered or not.

Also some of the staff are proper miserable, in fact the door staff are friendlier and have more interaction with the customers than some of the the bar staff do.

Umm not sure what to say about this pub. We visited for lunch yesterday and fair to say I was disappointed. The pub is nice enough in terms of being very clean etc and the staff are nice however the place itself is dark , cold , music blaring which makes it impossible to have a conversation ( plus the music is awful) , the tv was on and I can’t figure out why you need that on plus music blaring . I think having those on is a choice at home but not when you are out paying for a meal . The food was moderate and we had a fair wait for it. I don’t think we will be returning as it was suppose to be a nice lunch date with my husband but it wasn’t the best . I think we will give the blue bell a try on our next visit to Yarm

Please don’t ever bring children or dogs out here the garden is full of smashed glass and the tables filthy and covered in ash and spilt drinks. It’s ok though it’s like that because they were busy yesterday apparently and now at 1:30 in the afternoon they still haven’t had chance to clean up. It’s also not busy at all but is 40 mins wait for food. Used to love The Bull but I think it’s now probably the worst pub in the high street. I feel sorry for the regular staff that have to put up with people complaining all the time. It only gets 2 stars because the food is half decent.

Went last night with a friend. One of the bars I was charged £9.50 for 2 G & Ts then used the second bar and ordered the same thing but was then charged £7.50 ! This happened again when my friend ordered the drinks. we went the toilet and as we were leaving the door wouldn’t open so we pushed it, then a man rudely said WAIT!!! We had no idea who he was so we waited a bit then opened the door again. The man who turned out to be a bouncer shouted very rudely “ have some patience ladies!!!” We would of if we had known what was happening, all we knew was we couldn’t leave the toilets as some man was pushing against the door. Wasn’t very friendly and I won’t be going back.

Turned up to do the pub quiz, got told it was fully booked but no explanation of this on the flyers or by the bar staff of how/ why you need to book. Tried to order the 2 for 1 cocktails but the guy on the bar told me he did not have time to make them. False advertising and bad service.

This pub has gone down hill, bouncers kicking people out for saying they need the toilet? FALSELY accusing drug usage (not me but people me and me friends know and word on the street is it’s not the first time they’ve done it to customers either!), I’M GOING TO THE KETTON

Just been to the black bull, waited for almost an hour for a sharing platter (place wasn’t that busy) which upon arrival was dropped all over my coat, covering it in bbq sauce, it’s freezing and pouring down outside so thanks for that. Hi, I would just like to message and share with you my experience of having lunch in you bar today. First impressions of the refurb were great me, my partner, my father and his partner were all very impressed it looks fab! My father has been extremely helpful towards my family over the last few months which have been difficult for my family and I took him out for his lunch today at your place to say thank you and to celebrate over coming difficult times. We all sat down to the menu and picked what we wanted I then went to the bar to order. The lady behind the bar was very pleasant and helpful and admitted she hadn’t had time to use the new system and was learning as she went along she had to ask a number of members of staff for advice on the meals, tills and extras none of the team offered to come and help her out and I could tell even though she wanted to do her best was flustered and overwhelmed. Took ages for her to take payment something to do with the tills weren’t ready and staff weren’t signed on them. Eventually I managed to pay for my order and was told to go sit down and she would bring the drink over. 15 mins had passed by then I had to ask where they were she got side tracked trying to pull beer, larger through the pumps etc which weren’t ready for her to start work apologised and some minutes they arrived. When it came to the food 3 meals arrived to which we were then asked what was the other meal you ordered. This was missed off the order she apologised once again then said it would be ready shortly. 3 of us had eaten our meals and then, approx 15 mins after that the final meal arrived. By the time it arrived we had to leave due to another appointment. Now this is why I was unhappy, I took my father to say thank you and he sat there without food whilst the rest of us ate. That is not nice and I was embarrassed for her and the situation we had found ourselves in. A few chips were eaten but the meal was left on the table. I didn’t want to raise this in the bar as I could tell the lady was extremely embarrassed by the whole situation. We were not charged for the 4th meal. I tried to message you privately and would have preferred to have done so but, I got a message back saying you would not be responding so I have messaged on here instead.

Had lunch here today... after a disastrous start to the day where nothing was going right.. how could we go wrong just calling here for lunch... ??Been in previously for a drink and found the refurb lovely so assumed the food would be too... I had sausage and mash with seasonal veg... came out 3 burnt sausages... dry mash and watery gravy... the seasonal veg... PEAS!!!

Good job I like peas because the rest was dreadful. About £6... very expensive peas! Had to leave to be somewhere otherwise would have complained to whatever poor member of staff collected our plates. My partners burger was also very dry with burnt chorizo... must be bbq season!

Called in on Thursday , my first visit since the refurb. First impression it looked good. Then I got to the bar. no Guinness, no Stella, no Peroni no Strongbow, no Hop House 13. The brewery doesn't deliver till Friday was the excuse. I guess they only serve premium lagers of a Friday and Saturday then ! We called in again early on Saturday. Waited more than ten minutes to get served despite it being early and fairly quiet. At about 8pm while the pub was still quiet, we noticed people queuing to get in. On leaving i asked the bouncers why people were being made to queue when the pub was relatively quiet. Apparently the new management don't want the bar to get too busy so they make the paying customers queue outside ! I know this may be a radical suggestion, but why not employ more bar staff. You may even find you sell more beer ( assuming you have any) and make more money. The refurb itself looks quite good,it was certainly needed, but the toilets haven't changed much so i think the old problems of dirty loo's and associated smell in the front of the pub will quickly return once the smell of fresh paint goes.

Went last night with a friend. One of the bars I was charged £9.50 for 2 G & Ts then used the second bar and ordered the same thing but was then charged £7.50 ! This happened again when my friend ordered the drinks. we went the toilet and as we were leaving the door wouldn’t open so we pushed it, then a man rudely said WAIT!!! We had no idea who he was so we waited a bit then opened the door again. The man who turned out to be a bouncer shouted very rudely “ have some patience ladies!!!” We would of if we had known what was happening, all we knew was we couldn’t leave the toilets as some man was pushing against the door. Wasn’t very friendly and I won’t be going back.

Went for drinks and a meal last night,the food was shocking burnt and cold,the waitress was rude and unhelpful and tutting and shaking her head when we asked her for a dip,and she was very rude 2 the people on the next table 2 us all in all disgusting,and the toilets were disgraceful and the bear garden was awful,we won’t b going back 2 this place

Turned up to do the pub quiz, got told it was fully booked but no explanation of this on the flyers or by the bar staff of how/ why you need to book. Tried to order the 2 for 1 cocktails but the guy on the bar told me he did not have time to make them. False advertising and bad service.

This pub has gone down hill, bouncers kicking people out for saying they need the toilet? FALSELY accusing drug usage (not me but people me and me friends know and word on the street is it’s not the first time they’ve done it to customers either!), I’M GOING TO THE KETTON



The bull used to be the best and now it’s sinking to the bottom, sad to see but it’s the way it is

Just been to the black bull, waited for almost an hour for a sharing platter (place wasn’t that busy) which upon arrival was dropped all over my coat, covering it in bbq sauce, it’s freezing and pouring down outside so thanks for that. Obviously asked to see the manager we got fed up of waiting so left, didn’t even finish our drinks ! !

Hi, I would just like to message and share with you my experience of having lunch in you bar today. First impressions of the refurb were great me, my partner, my father and his partner were all very impressed it looks fab! My father has been extremely helpful towards my family over the last few months which have been difficult for my family and I took him out for his lunch today at your place to say thank you and to celebrate over coming difficult times. We all sat down to the menu and picked what we wanted I then went to the bar to order. The lady behind the bar was very pleasant and helpful and admitted she hadn’t had time to use the new system and was learning as she went along she had to ask a number of members of staff for advice on the meals, tills and extras none of the team offered to come and help her out and I could tell even though she wanted to do her best was flustered and overwhelmed. Took ages for her to take payment something to do with the tills weren’t ready and staff weren’t signed on them. Eventually I managed to pay for my order and was told to go sit down and she would bring the drink over. 15 mins had passed by then I had to ask where they were she got side tracked trying to pull beer, larger through the pumps etc which weren’t ready for her to start work apologised and some minutes they arrived. When it came to the food 3 meals arrived to which we were then asked what was the other meal you ordered. This was missed off the order she apologised once again then said it would be ready shortly. 3 of us had eaten our meals and then, approx 15 mins after that the final meal arrived. By the time it arrived we had to leave due to another appointment. Now this is why I was unhappy, I took my father to say thank you and he sat there without food whilst the rest of us ate. That is not nice and I was embarrassed for her and the situation we had found ourselves in. A few chips were eaten but the meal was left on the table. I didn’t want to raise this in the bar as I could tell the lady was extremely embarrassed by the whole situation. We were not charged for the 4th meal. I tried to message you privately and would have preferred to have done so but, I got a message back saying you would not be responding so I have messaged on here instead.

Had lunch here today... after a disastrous start to the day where nothing was going right.. how could we go wrong just calling here for lunch... ??Been in previously for a drink and found the refurb lovely so assumed the food would be too... I had sausage and mash with seasonal veg... came out 3 burnt sausages... dry mash and watery gravy... the seasonal veg... PEAS!!!

Good job I like peas because the rest was dreadful. About £6... very expensive peas! Had to leave to be somewhere otherwise would have complained to whatever poor member of staff collected our plates. My partners burger was also very dry with burnt chorizo... must be bbq season!

Called in on Thursday , my first visit since the refurb. First impression it looked good. Then I got to the bar. no Guinness, no Stella, no Peroni no Strongbow, no Hop House 13. The brewery doesn't deliver till Friday was the excuse. I guess they only serve premium lagers of a Friday and Saturday then ! We called in again early on Saturday. Waited more than ten minutes to get served despite it being early and fairly quiet. At about 8pm while the pub was still quiet, we noticed people queuing to get in. On leaving i asked the bouncers why people were being made to queue when the pub was relatively quiet. Apparently the new management don't want the bar to get too busy so they make the paying customers queue outside ! I know this may be a radical suggestion, but why not employ more bar staff. You may even find you sell more beer ( assuming you have any) and make more money. The refurb itself looks quite good,it was certainly needed, but the toilets haven't changed much so i think the old problems of dirty loo's and associated smell in the front of the pub will quickly return once the smell of fresh paint goes.
