The Split Chimp

Just been told in a Jesmond bar that the Anarchy Blonde Star is not on cos it takes a day to settle (no it does not), I was pissed off till I heard a guy in the bar telling his mate that he was Greggs love child, which made me smile. Still pissed off for the poor bar staff misinformed by their manager tho, it just makes them look like dicks.

Not bad for a piano rescued from a building site and manhandled down the road on a sack truck. We also have a guitar rescued from a skip for accompaniment.

Some great Ales and Ciders on this weekend. Archbishops, Tequila Blonde, Clever Chimp, Original Porter, Kafir & Limeleaf, and Strawberry, Rhubarb and Copper Top Ciders.

what a fab bar! not the type of place i'd normally go but so glad we went & defy be back. loved the rhubarb cider :)

this is my local. there's not a night i finish work that i have to divert myself to go and get the bus straight after work actively, rather than spend the rest of my night in here, the staff are fantastic, the owner is an absolute diamond, and we've stil got an open challenge on the table at the skittle run upstairs... the beers here are top notch, extremely well kept, and served to perfection.

When you visit a bar, the first thing that should matter is the atmosphere, from the staff to the company around you. Then it’s the ales on offer. This beautiful place accommodates for all of these things.

You can spend your entire evening here without feeling the need to bar hop elsewhere. The staff are utterly professional, welcoming and friendly. I would recommend the Split Chimp’s signature drink, yet you’ve a very nice range to try out.

This is certainly one of the best bars in Newcastle with its charm, character, prices and fantastic balance between professionalism and friendliness. Top of the range! You’ll not be disappointed.

Went here last night prior to meal with Sam who has just posted review. Really enjoyed it - loved the Split Chimp ale the atmosphere the fact that there was background music but just that in the background not thumping out like other pubs do we could talk without shouting. It was so good we went back after our meal. I even picked up the guitar sitting in the window and played a bit Charlie Rich - lol. Definitely go back when next in Toon. Recommend it to everyone. ���

Really friendly staff, great relaxed atmosphere, quirky decor and a great selection of beers and ciders. The beer bat is a fantastic idea for those wanting to try a few different ales. Also recommend for vegan drinkers as the staff are more than happy to advise with draughty are suitable.

Quirty little real ale pub. Love the use of old reclaimed furniture.

Quirky city centre bar with great craft beer and good gin. Will definitely be back.

Impressively empty of bearded 20-something hipsters who are still trying to work out how to escape from Brewdog. Bless em.

Love the decor, furnishings, service, clean toilets, beers on offer, and general atmosphere. Great place .

Its the first time I've been in a bar when asking for a "bat", doesn't result in a smack in the chops! Great little pub, good beer, and good patter with barman and customers.

Impressively empty of bearded 20-something hipsters who are still trying to work out how to escape from Brewdog. Bless em.

Great atmosphere; lovely owner and a nice mix of people. Rum and rhubarb cider is amazing...who'd have thought! Get yourself along there and try it out :)

Enjoyed a good pint at a nice price.it was warm and friendly on a cold autumnal evening so a very welcome change from the outside conditions.

I would recommend this small and delightful pub.

A real nice place for beer. One of my favorite in Newcastle. Great keg and cask choice and quality. The bar staff is friendly and helpful and they always have new beers in. The place has a soulf of its own. It's always a pleasure to have a drink there!
