Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens

About Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens

A major attraction in Cornwall, Tremenheere sits in a beautiful valley overlooking St Michael’s Mount, with woods & stream, interwoven with artwork. Within this breathtaking location Tremenheere hosts its garden, gallery, shop, nursery & restaurant.

Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens Description

Tremenheere is one of the most unique all-year-round gardens to visit in Cornwall.

The very favoured microclimate of kindly winter temperatures and shelter from the wind allow exotic and half-hardy plants to flourish. The planting schemes are appropriate to the varying individual habitats, but carry a unifying theme of sculptural forms, textures and colours, which complement what nature has already provided.

The plants create a restful verdancy, whilst having their own drama through form and foliage – particularly the notable collection of palm trees, tree ferns, succulents and bamboos.

Adding to these already magnificent and world-class gardens in Cornwall, the strongly structural planting scheme with a sub-tropical emphasis, means the gardens do not follow a traditional spring flourish but have an all-season interest.

Tremenheere Gallery is an important addition to the arts and gallery scene in Penzance and Cornwall generally, with an evolving programme of curated shows from local, national and international artists.

With two exhibition spaces, across two floors, the beautiful oak framed building is one of the largest purpose-built galleries in Cornwall. Since opening in January 2017, it has hosted solo exhibitions of work by artists including Gillian Ayres, Rose Hilton, Stephen Chambers, Jeremy Le Grice, Romi Behrens and Jessica Cooper.

OPENING TIMES
Gardens: Daily, 10. 30am – 4. 30pm
Tremenheere Gallery will reopen in early April.

“Paintings explore simple brushstrokes and muted colours - highlighting the stillness and subtle details of the landscape. A hand-sewn line curves along the surface of canvas and influences the edge of the land or the border between sea and sky. This seam is the beginning of a painting, the piecing together and reusing of material that inspires what the image will become, and is often accompanied by a sewn line as the final detail of the piece.” Sarah Woods.

beautiful gardens. We got married here and the venue could not have been more perfect. Rain or shine, it is a flawless location. The price is reasonable and the staff could not have been more wonderful! 10/10, best gardens I have ever visited.

User

Wonderful gardens to take a stroll around enjoy & wonder at the art work which is displayed. Great fun to try to discover everything that's hidden in the gardens. Cafe is also a marvellous place to stop & enjoy some refreshments too. Can't wait to return in May 2016 for my next visit.

User

We had the most perfect Wedding here on the 31st May. Tom made sure we were all relaxed and made sure everything ran smoothly, such a beautiful ceremony for just the four of us in the most outstanding scenery you could wish for. Thank you for making such a special day. Lesley & John.

Visited the gardens with my sister this week in glorious sunshine. This is my second visit and I ca n't wait to come back when I am down again in september. Loved everything about it: the gardens are beautiful and the wooded parts still have that secret cornish glen feel to them, the sculptures are interesting (especially the minotaur), the skyspace is amazing (would love to be in it on a starlit night), the camera obscura is fascinating (even though it made me feel dizzy!), the views of St MM are wonderful in the sunshine,. The shop and coffee shop are worth a visit on their own, I particularly liked the honesty box for the beautiful garden flowers I bought for a friend and the wrapping paper thoughtfully provided. I hear the sunday lunches are legendary - looking forward to my return in september, in the meantime I hope you have a good and successful summer.

User

Visited the garden yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I particularly loved the woodlands area with all the treeferns. Very tropical and lush. Really enjoyed the raised walkways. The terraced levels made it easier exploring the garden as it a bit of a hike to the top of the valley. Really enjoyed finding the sculptures scattered around the gardens. Will definitely being coming back again, possibly next month to see all the autumn colours. . . .lol

Tremenheere is a place of Inspiration. It is a vision bought to life with such passion and skill that you cannot help but feel inspired there. When you walk into the gardens you feel like you're entering a secret world, so many little areas to discover and wander, and the views of Mounts Bay are glorious. If you come to Cornwall, or live in Cornwall, you MUST visit. The shop sells gorgeous gifts and crafts and the cafe serves delicious food. I love it.

User

The gardens were beautiful . The view points stunning and the group discussions on the sculptures was priceless. We had an inspirational walk. And enjoyed the places to sit in silence. We had an unfortunate experience in the restaurant but I wrote to them and got a quick reply. I'm hoping things will improve. But we didn't let that ruin our enjoyment of the gardens

User

Thank you to Tom and all the staff who helped make my daughter Emily and her new husband Marks day so amazing. The sky space was an incredible place to get married and nothing was too much trouble. Really magical place and thanks again for everything x

User

One of my very favourite places in the whole of Cornwall. Beautifully kept, the gardens, sculptures and cafe are all immaculate. James Turrell's Sky Space is mesmerising, I would visit for that alone! Camera Obscura is another brilliant highlight... As is of course all the wonderfully different areas of gardens and wild spaces. Can't rate this place high enough. Love it in all weathers, but this weekend in the sun was especially beautiful! A happy place :)

User

My wife and I would like to thank Tom and all of the staff at the Gardens for the wonderful Wedding experience. You all made our wedding very special. The Pagoda was excellent, the venue and views were outstanding and we couldn't have asked for a better time. Thank you all again, and rest assured we will be returning for our first anniversary!

User

My mum and step dad got married here on sunday and it was perfect. It was the perfect venue for their intimate wedding. Tom was great on the day from greeting us as we arrived, to explaining the order of the day and taking us to the top. I know my mum was over the moon she got married here and we got some amazing photos in the garden. We would recommend to anyone.

User

I hosted my birthday meal at tremenheere this evening and everything was perfect. The venue looked incredible and was very cosy and welcoming. The food was top notch. There were about 28 of us and all the food came out at the same time and hot! The staff were brilliant couldn't have asked for better. They worked so hard all evening to ensure our evening was spot on. A big thank you to Jo who I liaised with to organise the evening, prompt and polite and accommodating. Big thank you tremenheere

User

First time we have been here and we enjoyed the visit will certainly be returning. The restaurant staff was very helpful and friendly. Thank you for a lovely day.

User

Beautiful gardens with great art, food, gallery and shops! Incredible line up of artists and hugely ambitious work.

User

Awesome place to visit, excellent choice of works on display in natural surroundings. You can get close up and feel the pieces. The skyspace is something special and can only be experienced.

Beautiful array of plants and trees in total compliment to the environment.

The cafe and plant nursery top class.

Visited half a dozen times and just gets better as it develops and grows.

User

An eclectic collection of sculptures and an impressive garden of exotic plants which thrive in the south-west's micro-climate.

A bonus feature is James Turrell's Aqua Obscura. See how quickly your eyes adjust in the complete darkness to focus on the projected image of overhanging trees.

There are fabulous views of St Michael's Mount and Marazion to be had too.

Not the easiest place to find from the A30, but well worth a visit.

User

A fantastic backdrop of Mounts Bay really sets off this beautiful and varied garden with its 4 climatic zones and thoughtful planting. The sensory experiences offered here were superb. With an occularis (sky space) a camera obscura and a dark chamber to enhance the senses. Interesting and varied sculptures (some living) were positioned around the garden to be discovered. I felt like a child exploring a magical world. The gardens have water running through them and woodland which was carpeted with bluebells. The owner of the Gardens Dr Armstrong spent time with us and treated us as if we were special guests. The gallery is also a beautiful oak framed building- very simple but allowing plenty of indirect lighting. Very prestigious artists work was displayed- but the gallery managed not to be precious. All the staff in the cafe were friendly and helpful.

Couldn't speak highly enough.

User

If sculpters and sub tropical plants are your thing then this place will float your boat and be right up your street however if a drink is what you want then 4pm is your deadline

User

A nice walk bit of a stretch to call some of the exhibits art. As for the cafe they don't supply hot food when they are still open and not very welcoming to customers who have taken the time to visit. In fact we were made to feel like we were an inconvenience. Well you live you learn there are better places to visit in Cornwall with more accommodating staff.
