We went into Waterstones today to let our 8 yr old daughter look for a new reading book. Spoilt for choice and unsure of many of the authors, she was finding it difficult to choose, which is where Jonny stepped in. He came across, introduced himself and spoke directly to our daughter, kneeling down to ensure he was at her height. He spoke to her about her likes, what she was after, the type of stories she enjoyed and then brought three books as recommendations. He then went on to totally enthrall her with truly enthusiastic and knowleagable descriptions of each book keeping her engaged in wonderment throughout. His enthusiasm, knowledge and approach is a credit to your business and I feel you have gained a young customer for life.

Waterstones has filled at least 3 days of the summer holidays so far. My girls; Eloise (9yo potential author) Amelie (6yo demolition enthusiast) have found books to see them through the holidays as well as a new playmate in Jonny (aka the funny guy) who encouraged and stimulated both girls love of creativity, albeit in different genres, and entertained us all. We highly recommend the creative writing ...actually any activities this store offers children. Thanks Jonny and we're holding Eloise to the coffee she owes you x

Visited today with my daughter as she wanted a new book. She's currently obsessed with Harry Potter but we have all the books so she was at a bit of a loss what to get. We were approached by a lovely male member of staff (sorry I didn't get your name) who took the time to ask my daughter what she liked and recommended 2 different books for her to try. She chose one of them and she has had me reading it to her since we got home. I want to say a huge thank you for taking the time and finding something you though she would like, her face lit up when she was telling her dad about it. She's over the moon and we certainly will be back!

Visited on Tuesday with my 3yr old son, my 10month old daughter and my friend with her daughter age 3. Went to buy a book my son had been asking for and Jonny who works there came and just sat on the floor and began playing with some of the wind toys with the kids. They were fascinated and giggled so much.

He has a fantastic imagination and his enthusiasm and way with the kids was just amazing to see. My son even asked to go and see the funny man at the book shop.

He is an absolute credit to the store and I would like to say thank you from us all.

Visited earlier today to get a new book as I've been hoping to get into a new series for a while. The lady at the till who served me was lovely and gave me some fantastic reccommendations based on my liking George R. R. Martin (didn't catch her name but she seemed very knowledgeable and was very friendly!). I always find it a bit overwhelming going into a bookstore after a while with all the choice so this made all the difference ☺️

Visited Waterstones Newcastle today with my two kids who wanted to use their Christmas vouchers. During our visit the kids were asked by a staff member, Johnny, what kind of books they were looking for. Johnny spent about 10 minutes with each of the kids asking what they liked, were into and then made a number of suggestions based their conversation. He was knowledgable and friendly but best of all he had real enthusiasm for the books he spoke about.

Well done Johnny, you made my kids experience of the book shop today fun and exciting, they can't wait to get home and start reading. Waterstones, this guy deserves some recognition for the excellent customer service.

Took my two year old girl in to choose a dinosaur book after seeing dinosaurs in the park...in steps a lovely lad called Jonny (I think) who spoke directly to her, found a great book for her, spent ages talking to her, reading the book and showing her other stuff (including bouncing a ball off the ceiling!) Such a nice lad - so nice that he made the effort to entertain her thanks so much for taking the time to talk to my little girl, she's not put her book down since she got in!

User

The two girls who were on the main desk at around 6pm tonight were absolutely amazing! I've always been awful at choosing just one book, and went to the desk for recommendations about the five books I had in my hand. They were lovely, really chatty and friendly. I never felt like I was wasting their time or bothering them. AND, through clever use of two vouchers I had (one of which I wasn't even aware I had), I got all five books I was looking at for about £10!!!

My own customer service has won awards, and I have to say, I was blown away by the helpfulness and generally lovely manner of both ladies. Thank you so much!

User

Staff are always willing to help and can tell they really love their books, have found many a time when I have picked up a book and a staff member has loved it, they do a great job of giving you a glimpse without spoilers. Ideal job. Attended the special event for the midnight release of Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman, which was a great night great to see all the effort by the staff to make the night a great one. Well done guys. xx

Lovely and comfortable and very friendly staff coffee nice cake gorgeous also lovely and clean

I'd like to thank and commend the lady who served me this afternoon when I was very excitedly buying my new Harry Potter and the Cursed Child book. She was extremely helpful and so friendly, we had an excellent Harry Potter related chat, she's definitely the most enthusiastic shop assistant (sorry if that's not even close to her actual job title) I've had the pleasure of dealing with in a long time. I didn't take her name but according to my receipt she's operator 815853. Please let her know that she massively improved what had been a tough day for me.

User

I would just like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the lady working in your store today! I got horribly lost whilst driving a friend into town and (in a huge panic) ran into the store for help. Your wonderful employee (who’s name I should have really asked for!) not only have me directions but even came and watched me out of the space I’d parked in, incase of any issues with pedestrians. Can’t thank her enough!

User

I actually went to this shop to attend a book-signing (James Arthur #Back to the Boy - highly recommended) - and the staff were so helpful and relaxed, they even brought a chair for my heavily pregnant friend to sit on in the queue.

User

Had a excellent evening at a book talk and signing. All the staff were very welcoming to all who were there. Full of enthusiasm about the author and his books and this was passed on to us in the audience.

User

Go there regularly and enjoy the warm, friendly atmosphere of the shop afbd staff.

User

Friendly staff, fantastic atmosphere and fantastic coffee. Have a friend I meet there some regularly often with my young daughter and the place is always safe and welcoming

User

Attended for an organised book signing, Bruce Dickenson and What does this Button do, well organised and slick and a delight that it was local and all staff very welcoming and friendly thank you Waterstones

User

As well as being helpful while I shopped they were great in helping me find an I pad I left in their shop customer service like this is why I shop in book shops and not online

User

They have nice gluten-free cakes in their cafe
