🗓️📊📉Choosing the right wormer for the right horse at the right time of year is so important but just giving the drug is not enough. With resistance on the rise we need to test regularly afterwards to make sure the particular drug has been effective.
Worm count 10-14 days after treatment for redworm and ascarid treatment and EquiSal test 2 months after treatment for tapeworm to double check the worms on the pasture aren't resistant to the chemicals you're using.

Roundworms - ascarids like these can be very dangerous, especially in young horses. This poor mare has been wormed regularly but her fate highlights the need to choose the right wormer at the right time and to test regularly to check efficacy.
Ivermectin and moxidectin wormers are less effective at treating this parasite. For ascarids, more often found in young horses under 4, the older style chemicals such as fenbendazole and pyrantel would be preferable and treatments to work into a plan for youngstock. 🐛🐴

Once again, thank you for such a prompt and efficient service. Sample taken Monday morning and posted. Results emailed to me by Tuesday evening. Another clear sample, so no unnecessary chemicals for my horse Maverick. I also use the Equisal tapeworm test supplied by Westgate and have been impressed with this service too. In awe of the service. Kit arrived, quickly did samples in morning so I could post on way to work. Sat in office and realised I had posted on Friday (thinking it was Thursday) before a bank holiday! Thought I would probably need to do again after the bank holiday weekend but no, results came in on the Saturday. Thank you Westagate first class service and even better, results <50 epg - happy owner - happy ponies.

I used westgate for the first time last week, the information and instructions provided were really easy to follow and the results came back within a few days of posting the samples! Really impressed with the service and I will be using them from now!

I have just started using Westgate Labs to get worm counts for my horse and they provide an amazing fast service. I will 100% keep using them for worm counts and advice in the future.

I have been doing FEC'S on my 2 horses for quite a few years, mostly with a good result. On the occasion I have had a medium egg count I have checked with Westgate Labs the correct wormer to use.

I foolishly sent my sample off the day before Good Friday! I thought I had wasted my test as surely they wouldn't be around to test it and it would spoil over the weekend. Low and behold, the following week the results came through - brilliantly surprised! I emailed them with a couple of questions and they replied within a few minutes - very efficient and incredibly prompt. Will definitely be doing FWCs with Westgate from now on!

And I just got a reply about my worm programme adjustments on Facebook message to them within ten minutes at 9.10pm!! That's service!!!!! :-)
