"On the watch last night I saw It, like a man, tall and thin, and ghastly pale”. Bram Stokers' words are sending bittersweet shivers down our spines, getting us all excited for Illuminated Abbey. Are you visiting this year? 🦇🕸 Tickets for 25-31 October are available: https://eht.social/2IMOO5U

User

Fascinating Fact!
The cobbled stones in the Courtyard are presented as they would have been originally. From an aerial view point they show a pattern and could have possibly shown through a surface of gravel, to highlight the pattern.

User

The Anglo-Saxon Monastery that once stood on the headland, can no longer be seen. You have to use your imagination to visualise what it would have been like. From the monastery itself, that would have sat closer to the coast, stretching right along the current site to the car park, which we believe would have been a graveyard.

User

Did you know the human eye can perceive about 7 000 000 different colours? Your senses are in for a treat at this years Illuminated Abbey. Book your tickets ➡ https://eht.social/2xY8Hly

So, many of you ask what the statue is in front of the Visitor Centre. It is in fact a copy of the Borghese Gladiator. The original is now housed in the Musee du Louvre, and another replica sits at Windsor Castle. It’s placing here would highlight Sir Hugh Cholmley II’s work at Whitby and his connection to King Charles I.

User

Whitby Abbey..always worth a trip. Love having a quiet walk in the historic grounds. So many varied events and fun activities to join in with. Many happy hours spent here with my family over the years.

User

We missed the start of the Dracula Performace but caught up with it part way round. That really made the visit enjoyable, being able to follow the actors around the ruins. The kids absolutely loved it. I have 2 autistic boys who can't sit still so they loved that they could keep getting up to move around. The Dracula performance really was the highlight for us and a nice surprise as we hadn't realised it was on when we went.

Went to the Abbey specifically to see the “Dracula” show; but didn’t know what it would actually entail....... HIGHLY RECOMMEND this little show!!

Very very entertaining, brilliant setting and use of the abbey ruins moving around it as the set; and the kids absolutely loved it!! Kept the crowd of all ages involved!! The three actors who acted out all of the characters were outstanding!! Well worth going to see and so pleased we stopped to see this on our way back home to Cumbria!! Fantastic end to our holiday!! (Take a jumper or jacket - its a chilly wind blowing in off the sea - even in the sunshine!! )

User

The dracula play absolutely made the visit and we only watched the second half of it. Would recommend it if you can catch them

User

Saw the Dracula performance today 12th August. Absolutely loved it although some of the characters look very similar highly recommend. My 3 kids loved it and my eldest 12 yr old xbox lover asked to watch it again.

User

Not only did the staff here welcome our school group with smiles, Matteo gave a welcome talk in Italian for our guests!

Thank you everyone!

User

My Visit to the Whitby Abbey was fantastic today when I came, I took some photos with my IPhone today so next time when I come here I’m going to do some filming of this.

Thank you very much.

Patrick.

User

Lovely place and views from the top are stunning. There was a play about dracula on within the abbey whilst we visited which was excellent

User

Just watched the brilliant production set in the ruins of the abbey, captivating, informative and funny, we enjoyed the audience interaction and location changes. Thank you, we thoroughly recommend this as a first rate attraction.

User

Had the pleasure of seeing the ‘Dracula’ play

included in the price of entry. Incredibly funny, informative and within the beautiful grounds of Whitby Abbey. What a stunning backdrop for such an iconic piece of work!

User

Everything was first class & enjoyed the recorded tour guide contraption. In Southern California 1930 is ancient, so to see something this old with its grandeur, craftsmanship, imagination, and engineering really is breathtaking. Had such a great day!!!

User

Beautiful place to visit, friendly staff, good disabled access, great audio guides an all round lovely experience.

User

Beautiful place to visit, did not realise you had to pay to enter, however it was well worth the money to see the Dracula show, and spent the day on Saturday wondering around, the weather was beautiful also.

User

Beautiful place to visit, Charlie our dog loved it as well especially as he was allowed in the museum and shop, really makes a difference being able to go indoors as a family and not have to take turns staying outside with the dog. 5 stars and 5 paw prints rated

User

Beautiful food served by great staff. The scenery is just as good, with views over Whitby from the garden.

User

Beautiful abbey and location, staff are friendly but the only thing I'd ease up on is trying to get people to buy a years membership as soon as they ask for an admission to the ruins, I understand it's something you have to do but I felt a little overwhelmed, maybe give people info about the memberships available but don't overdo it just abit of slight feedback but apart from that enjoyed my experience and felt humble to be able to view this peice of English heritage.

User

A great escape from the heaving streets of a hot and sunny Whitby. Only went coz the Dracula play was on, which justified the entrance fee. If in Whitby go check out the play, enthusiastic and amusing actors and we greatly enjoyed it

User

Lovely visit to Whitby Abbey - lots of information around the site and the recorded narration makes it easy to go at your own pace. Loved the play about Captain Cook that was going on during on visit, too - informative while being fun enough to keep the kids happy!

User

We climbed all of those stairs to the top, the views were amazing. What we didn’t enjoy seeing was that there has been a wall built around the Abbey, so that if you want to go in and see the ruins, you now have to pay. They don’t tell you that at the bottom. Luckily, we saw it when it was FREE to the public.
