From the Love Whitby Facebook group, a local GP expressing her concerns about neighbouring Scarborough Hospital, yet another Yorkshire coast hospital with an uncertain future.
The article was apparently sent to The Scarborough Evening News after their deadline to go to print and therefore only available online so many people won't have seen it. This article also seem to miss key points of what the proposal for Scarborough Hospital might look like which means not many will ta...

Whitby Film Society presents "Journey's End" UK (2018)to be screened at the Coliseum this Thursday 11 October starring Asa Butterfield and Toby Jones.
Tickets £6 on the door.
Doors open 7.15pm for a 7.45pm start.
... This new version of RC Sherriff’s classic play about the futility and slaughter of the First World War is powerful, passionate and superbly acted— “not a war film, but a drama set in war”.
Asa Butterfield plays the young Second Lieutenant Raleigh, newly arrived at the front in 1918. In all his moon-faced naivety, he asks to join C company in the trenches, because the commanding officer there is Captain Stanhope, who was a few years ahead of Raleigh at school and a family friend. The artless innocence of his beamingly casual attitude, so imminently to be ruined, is made even more ironic by the nepotism. Raleigh doesn’t want to avoid conflict, but to be in the thick of it. However, Stanhope is not the boy Raleigh once knew. The war has made him an aggressive, care-worn, self-hating alcoholic, who is horrified to see young Raleigh and realise how he must look in the eyes of someone who once liked and rather hero-worshipped him. Their horrible situation of boredom and nerve-shredding tension suddenly becomes even more unspeakable when the order comes through that Osborne and Raleigh are to lead a raiding party, in broad daylight, into enemy lines to capture a German soldier for intelligence purposes. There has been little planning, no practice, and it is to be done simply so that the report can be completed before the evening’s formal dinner. They are just expected to do it.
The aftermath of this grisly adventure brings all their despair into yet sharper focus.

"The planning application for the proposals to redevelop Whitby Hospital were formally considered by the Planning Committee on 4 October and we are pleased to note that the committee are minded to recommend the approval of the application. The formal approval by the Council Planning Officer is due on 17 October which will also review any conditions to the approval. Next screening by the Whitby Film Society at the Coliseum is Western (2018).
Despite what the title might suggest, “Western” is not a traditional oater by any stretch of the imagination. Instead, German director Valeska Grisebach, making her first film since 2006’s “Longing,” uses a number of narrative tropes and bits of iconography that will be familiar to fans of the genre to present viewers with a modern-day meditation on subjects ranging from toxic masculinity to the tens...ions and occasional triumphs that can arise when two disparate cultures are thrown together. The result is a slow burn of a drama with a restrained tone that may put off some viewers, but which will captivate those who responded to its low-key wavelength.
Thursday 27 September The Coliseum, Victoria Place, Whitby Tel: 01947 825000. Doors open 7.15pm. Curtain up 7.45pm. Full season ticket: £70.00 Entrance on the night: £6.00. Light refreshments available.

Whitby Dairy Discussion Group would like to invite all members & sponsors (new and old) to their meetings which start up again this month. This year looks like being a particularly good programme, starting with an American farmer keen to exchange ideas and learn about our farming practices. This meeting is to be held on Sunday 23rd September, starting at 7.45pm at The Stables at Cross Butts, Whitby. Please contact the Secretary for more information or to confirm attendance ...on 07868 956919.
The speaker Amy Richardson, is from Richardson Farm Maple, and will be speaking about the family's farming enterprise in Hartland, Vermont, USA. A brief introduction is as follows: “The story of our farm begins in 1905 when dairy farmer James Johnson Richardson purchased working farmland in Hartland, Vermont. Now several generations later, our family continues to work the same land. Over time we have diversified to operate several farm business enterprises. Our herd of over one hundred registered Jersey cattle produces some of Vermont’s highest-quality milk. We are proud members of the Agri-Mark Cooperative that owns Cabot and Macadam, award-winning cheese brands. Our maple business has grown to a year-round operation with local and internet sales options. Besides producing milk and maple syrup, we custom-manufacture rustic split rail fencing. In 2009, we won the Vermont Dairy Farm of the Year Award, and have achieved top three recognition for milk quality within our entire co-op twice.”

This is a very worthwhile cause. Donations are most welcome from businesses, organisations and individuals. Can you help the Whitby Defibrillator Project?

Where can your advertise your jobs within 30 miles of Whitby for £30?

This is a great free magazine. I always pick up a copy from the Tourist Information Centre when back in the area visiting family. Vouchers for restaurants, adverts showing events at local pubs, and much more. Always good for finding out new businesses which have opened since my last visit. They even helped sell my mother's three-piece suite in their classified section! Well worth a read!

Great magazine , nice people to deal with, very happy.

Excellent free mag with loads of useful numbers. Preferred my previous delivery man though. Can't wait til he returns.

A mine of useful information! Have already used this month's issue to find a plumber for a faulty toilet and a bulider for a leaking roof😊

User

It pops through the door like clockwork just when we need to find something like a Xmas venue !!!!

and by a fit bloke man who is always chatty !!

User

This is disgraceful, hope everyone has withdrawn their adverts, anyone wanting to be associated with UKIP should be ashamed.

User

The cover just shouldn't be used for political advertising. Makes it look like Whitby is predominantly UKIP, regardless of what you say inside.

User

I'm horrified that the latest front cover is dedicated to an advert for UKIP. The implication is that the magazine and the advertisers support this appalling party. Rather stay away from political advertising so as not to alienate people.

User

I was so sad to see the UKIP front cover on Whitby Advertiser. Do you support UKIP? This is the impression given, and has sadly put me completely off the mag. No to UKIP!

User

I had no strong feelings either way about the Whitby Advertiser until it published the UKIP cover. Shameful.
