We will be raising funds with these fabulous people on Sunday 10th February at Whitby Steampunk Weekend, we hope you can stop by and see the great work they are doing, donate and maybe buy a raffle ticket or 3!
WHITBY WILDLIFE SANCTUARY - INTRODUCTION:
Registered Charity No: 1165589
... We operate 24/7, 365 days a year to rescue and care for all sick, injured and orphaned wildlife from Yorkhire, Country Durham and Redcar & Cleveland. We care for over 2100 animals every year.
Wildlife casualties include all manner of birds from birds of prey to seabirds, tiny garden birds to swans; hedgehogs are our most common mammal rescue and we also care for a number of other species too: deer, foxes, mice and squirrels - to name a few!
Our aim is to always release these animals when they are better but we do have a few residents now living here due to their unreleasable cases.
Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary has a team of around 50 volunteers, helping to care for the animals here, rescue & transport and fundraising. The charity costs between 2-3k every month!
We also take animal management students as part of their work placements. Here at the charity, we also run training courses for people wanting to learn more about wildlife welfare and animal care as well as conservation and protecting the environment.
In 2016 we were awarded the IWAF award for our animal welfare work with birds. This was presented by Bill Oddie at the House of Lords.
We want to thank our big network of supporters for all your donations and kind words over the years - it’s thanks to you that the charity has progressed so far.
Our future plans will be moving the charity to a larger, permanent site and expanding the facilities we have - especially our hedgehog hospital as we get so many every year.
Ways to help us: Join our volunteer team to help in fundraising, rescue & transport or hands on care Help promote the work we do by sharing on Social Media Donate by text: Text WILDLIFE to 70660 Visit: www.paypal.me/whitbywildlife
Set up a regular donation every month - these especially help us as we can be assured to have much needing funding coming in to continue our work Thank you for all your support!
