With moderate temperatures and a small chance of rain, we are on for gardening, chattering and refreshmenting tomorrow 2-4 pm.
We were so busy gardening that we forgot to take photos! We were so busy gardening that we forgot to take photos!
It is going to be warm and sunny tomorrow so slip on a t-shirt, slap on a hat and slop on some sunscreen before we meet.
Four til six tomorrow to protect the skin of our youngest members.
After two weeks of near-constant rain, everything has shot up so this was a pruning, tying back, earthing up and weeding kind of day. Don't worry though, we made time for harvesting salad and rhubarb, as well as for drinking tea and eating cake.
With only a small chance of rain tomorrow afternoon, the garden will be open for watering, weeding and water-based hot infusions (tea 😉)
See you tomorrow 2-4.
The ground is sodden and the likelihood of it drying enough to do the necessary digging, weeding and planting is low. If we can arrange an extra session on a drier day, we will let you know via this page.
Otherwise, put your feet up and watch some gardening programmes on the telly
Tomorrow afternoon, there is a one-third chance of it raining. Will we be daunted by this? Stay tuned to find out.
So far, so good. While it looks like tomorrow will be dry, it is also likely to remain damp underfoot so sensible footwear is a must. See you at Widdy Grows: 2pm - 4pm.
Saturday is looking quite pleasant with its light breezes. This week's tasks include harvesting lettuce, sowing seeds, tying beans and having a cuppa.
Hope to see you here 2-4 on Saturday.
What a lovely Sunday-session we had! We admired the donated forget-me-nots (thank you again), planted tomatoes in the big poly tunnel and transplanted sweet corn, carrots, parsnips, etc into the garden. And, as ever, dug up many, many roots from the old fruit trees.
We would love to see any photos or plans from the site's days as a market garden which would have been prior to 1961 when the vicarage was built.
If the rain clears by mid-morning, we will meet today 2-4. Update at 11am.
Tomorrow's session has the same small chance of rain as last week but, a medium level of UV so, for the first time in 2019: don't forget your sun cream! 2-4 at Widdy Grows.
Can you help? We have run out of netting so would welcome donations of any amount. Thank you x
A low chance of rain means a high chance of digging, sowing and planting. As ever, there will be chatting, biscuiting and beveraging.
There was a good buzz at Widdy Grows today as our gnomes were joined by a few pollinators looking for a sweet treat.
Huge roots were cleared from our next vegetable bed, lettuce was potted on, peas were planted, weeding continued and the last of our sunflowers taken down to St Joe's.
Next time: weeding the vegetable bed we planted in autumn, planting out pak choi, sweetcorn and kale, and more chatting, teaing and biscuiting! See you then?
Tomorrow's Widdy Grows has about a 35% chance of rain. Luckily, there are in-tunnel and out-of-tunnel tasks to do. Hope to see you 2-4.
And, for the growing season, we are adding a Wednesday evening session: 6-8!
Despite mass defection of gnomes to hunt Easter eggs at St Joes or visit places outside of Widdy (are there such places?), the plants were watered, soil dug and cleared in blazing heat and the beans were tied to the trellis.
Keep an eye out for our new growing-season hours.
