Amazing news. Bobby Baker's Great & Tiny War has been shortlisted for Best Event Tyneside in The Journal Culture Awards 2019. 2018 was a HUGE year for culture so it feels tremendous to be in the final three.
Thank you to the many people and collaborators who played a role in making it such an extraordinary and warm experience, not least, the brilliant Bobby Baker Home and 1418 NOW who had the vision to commission it in the first place.

1418 NOW publishes a new book today illustrating its pretty incredible 5-year run of First World War centenary art commissions. We're proud that Bobby Baker's Great & Tiny War made the cut.
It's on sale here. http://bit.ly/1418NOWbook

There are now 3 free extracts available to download from the new 'It's Time' book, co published by Wunderbar.
For starters, here's 'Making the Future', a contextual essay from the brilliant Dr Cecilia Wee which gives an astute insight into where the Live Art sector is at right now, what defines it and why, in 2019, it's such a vital genre.
http://bit.ly/ItsTimeCeciliaWee
... The book, published with the Live Art Development Agency - LADA, which includes case studies* from our own artistic director Ilana Mitchell, is available in the Wunderbar shop at the introductory price of a mere tenner.

*10 cleverness points for anyone who can name Wunderbar the artwork in the pic below.

Along with Live Art Development Agency - LADA Wunderbar has co-published It's Time, a brand new book which officially goes on sale today.
The book is a collection of case studies produced by a collaboration between the 30 brilliant organisations that make up Live Art UK and can be yours now at the special launch price of just a tenner:
http://bit.ly/ItsTimeCaseStudies
... It's Time case studies spotlight artists, initiatives and practices that are re-politicising and re-energising our arts spaces, and sharing radical works and ideas with a public who are themselves being forced to do more with less.
The case studies are written by leading lights in the sector including excellent culture journalist Lyn Gardner and Wunderbar's own Artistic Director, Ilana Mitchell.
Ilana explores some of the ethics of participation using examples of two Wunderbar produced projects - Joshua Sofaer's Opera Helps and Monica Ross's An Act of Memory.
It’s Time demonstrates that through creative resistance – of patriarchy, of white supremacy, of ableism, of corporate interest and austerity – Live Art can determine its own future, and that of the world around it.
Engagingly written and full of eye-opening insights, this is vital stuff and we're glowingly proud to be involved.

If you're lucky enough to be heading to Madrid, we would totally recommend taking in Great & Tiny War artist Bobby Baker's new exhibition, opening today. It's called Jars of Chutney and it's at La Casa Encendida gallery. She is tremendous.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Newcastle came to visit the #greattinywar house this morning. We had a good conversation about the importance of feminism, interfaith and inter-community dialogue and cups of tea.

We can't believe it's 1 year ago today that people across Newcastle and Gateshead - barbers, bakers, bankers, schoolchildren, taxi drivers, lecturers, train announcers, MPs and loads more - took time out to boldly interrupt day-to-day life by reciting the words of Martin Luther King.
What a day that was. What wonderful people we met. Totally unforgettable. #jeremydeller #mlk1967 #freedomcity2017

It feels special to be included in the Remembrance Day issue of Waitrose Weekend. Editor Alison Hepworth observes that Great & Tiny War "is helping us remember the sometimes-unappreciated work of those who didn't go and fight but kept the country going while men were away."
Thanks to Alice Ryan who interviewed artist Bobby Baker for the feature. Great stuff.

Here's another chance for a video tour of the Great & Tiny War house, this time courtesy of Hannah King at Forces TV. There's a thoughtful focus on the Domestic Armoury room: "All the artwork has been baked by women with a diverse connection to warfare; some are refugees, whilst others are veterans."

Much of the merch in the Great & Tiny War shop has sold out. But you can still own iconic, rare test prints from Bobby Baker's lauded Diary Drawings: Mental Illness and Me book. There's now just 3 drawings available, one of each design, on sale for £250.
All money raised from the shop enables us to offer free tickets to people who might not otherwise be able to come and see the installation. If you've bought anything from our shop, including solidarity tickets, thank you. You are making a genuine difference.

“Being an artist is how I processed some terrible experiences, but I’ve emerged, the happiest I’ve ever been. Art saved my life.”
This is Great & Tiny War artist Bobby Baker speaking to A-N and helping to introduce their new resources around new artists and mental health. Kudos to them for tackling this critical issue that's core to the Great & Tiny themes.
And arts people - if you're not already a member of A-N, we would definitely recommend signing up. It's a really usefu...l service.
