We have decided to re-publish all of the material we have from the motorbike surf trip we did in 2015. Some of you may have seen this at the time, but the website has been down since 2017 so it seemed appropriate to re-publish it now. We’re going to release an entry every few days, or once a week perhaps with a little film, so please join us on a trip down a memory dirt road which, at the end of this, will hopefully lead to fun times in the sea together!
“Essentially the plan... is to ride small motorbikes from Santiago, Chile to California over the next year, hugging the coastline as much as possible. We will pass through 12 countries in total and should clock up around 15,000 miles. We have a really small budget; a lot of which has already been spent on the bikes so we need to camp, couch surf and exhange work for accomodation as much as possible along the way. We don’t speak much Spanish; barely enough to get by, so a big part of the trip for us is to learn. We both surf so leaving boards at home wasn’t an option; the boards will be coming with us, attached by racks to the bikes. We have small bikes and a lot of luggage so we aren’t going anywhere fast.” Tom-Nov 2015.

Here's the first little edit we did, starting in Chile heading up the West Coast, through the Atacama desert heading towards Peru. We met some fantastic people along the way who helped us figure out how we were going to start this slightly bonkers adventure! Huge thanks to Karin Fuenzalida Gylling @herenciarides Maxi Funes Basualto and many many more!

Remembering the freedom of this during times like these. Over the next week we will be sharing our Westroad adventure short films with you all. Santiago to San Francisco, two doyles on Honda XR150s, 16,000 miles, twelves countries, twelve months, surfing all the way 🏍🏍🏄🏽‍♀️🏄‍♂️

Today we say goodbye to our awesome buddy Simon. It’s going to be tough for his family and those close to him to not have a proper wake but we all know once this is over he’ll be celebrated in true @kerr2000 style. Sharing memories and seeing others write about Simon is important and lovely to see. Simon for our little family was a kind soul, a super intelligent lad with a kind soul. He gave Billy his first boogie board, bucket and spade and couldn’t do enough. Surfing the re...efs will never feel the same for me now and I’ll miss his yells of encouragement. The girls coming for lessons should remember him as he always gave us a surf report on heading down, whilst we passed by the bouncy castle. I’m going to miss his chats whilst having a cuppa round his mams house but I tell you what I won’t miss, that bloomin horn honking as he drives past giggling in the convertible, waving with delight right at the point I’d just got Billy off to sleep. A kindhearted cheeky soul. Love to Simon and has beautiful family @katyk51 @sandytynemouth @rachaelmarron

Some serious surf check action. Missing the banter with the Yonder girls, thanks for so many lovely messages of support, let’s keep in touch, I’ll get my thinking cap on. Hope everyone is keeping well ✊ ~ ~ ~ #sistersofthenorthsea #surfcommunity

We are watching this situation unfold and have been responding in the most responsible way possible, this has meant reducing our numbers and putting stringent hygiene measures in place up to this point. However, with the situation as it stands, we have decided to press pause on all our lessons, including 1:1’s until we are in a position to do otherwise . ~ ~ ~ This is a very hard decision and we know we are not alone in making tough calls. Both Tom and I are self employed so... waiting in hope for the government to throw us and other like us a lifeline. In the meantime we are working on keeping Yonder dynamic and continuing to throw fuel on the fire of the INCREDIBLE surf community we have seen growing over the last couple of years. We are so grateful for your support and proud of what we do and can’t to get back at it as soon as we are able to . ~ ~ ~ We are thinking of everyone else in similar positions and of course those who are far worse off. We are hugely grateful to our doctors, nurses and everyone else who is on the front lines in these unprecedented times. ~ ~ ~ #sistersofthenorthsea #werisebyliftingothers #surfyonder

Business update: So far we have not received any official guidance from Government with regards to surfing. I still maintain that being in the sea is the best place to be but I also want to ensure that everyone who comes to the school are kept safe and that we are following guidance that has been offered. Classes will remain at a small size and possibly over the next few weeks I will run maximum of four girls or focus more on increased 1:1s. We will pay particular attention t...o changing areas to ensure social distancing and continue to ensure all our equipment is washed and cleaned thoroughly. You are all super stars and have supported this small family business hugely over the past year and a half and we are forever grateful for that. If you have any concerns or ideas at all that you think would help increase your confidence attending lessons(until we are advised otherwise) please do let me know. Thank you for taking the time to read. Lots of love, Sal, Tom and Billy xxx

Just what I needed yesterday. Best surf with @twedzypie and her Dad, ‘go on Emma’s dad!’ Something to take your mind away and give you focus. There’s nothing better. Cheers you two and Tom for the snap ❤️

We got underway designing the boards for the Sister Slide project last night. We’re really excited to see ten girls united with ten awesome boards this spring in collaboration with @visionarysurfboards.
Last nights workshop talked through templates, rocker, rails, fins, construction and other important design elements of surf craft - we will have a launch party in May where all the boards will be on display - more details to follow soon!
Thanks again to @cbkadventure for pr...oviding a warm and comfortable space to do this stuff and thanks for all the girls who could make it.

I cannot help but grin as I look through these screen shots that @s.arajean just sent me. Last July, Yonder Surf Academy CIC was made official. This is really exciting as it means that we can apply for funding and the hope is to run subsidised surf sessions to select groups of girls and women, something that we have wanted to do from the outset. This session was the first of hopefully many. For the next six weeks I will be working with this rad group of year 11 and 12s, from ...John Spence School, getting them in the sea and stoked. This was the first time surfing for all eight girls and what a day to get in. Wild February seas and not a sad face amongst them. I am incredibly lucky to have @s.arajean on board documenting the whole six weeks so eyes peeled for a little edit at the end of it all to see how they got on. Thanks to John Spence School for getting stuck in and seeing the benefits of surfing for your students 🙌 . . . . #yondersurfacademy #Communityinterestcompany #surfyonder #sistersofthenorthsea #surftherepy #beginnersurfer #tynemouthsurf @ Tynemouth
