I have been reluctant to post articles about burglars gaining entry by lock snapping but as it is becoming a more common occurrence locally and nationally and it is already publicised by online sources such as Youtube + manufacturers adverts and competitors websites, I feel it is important to make my customers and the general public aware of a design flaw in the majority of upvc, wooden and composite doors fitted with standard euro and oval type cylinders and no additional p...rotection. Standard lock cylinders and handles are vulnerable to lock & handle plate snapping, particularly if cylinders protrude more than a few millimeters from the handle externally. They should ideally be upgraded to correct size cylinder with no or very little overhang externally and with a level of protection against lock snapping. These cylinders range in price, quality and testing grading up to the maximum 3* diamond rated cylinders available from various different manufacturers. I would advise that a little extra expense on lock cylinders with some levels of snap protection and/or security handles to protect your valuables is money well invested and you should check with your home insurer to confirm that you meet or exceed their minimum cylinder specification requirement to ensure cover.

uPVC locks often just need re alignment to make them operate correctly. If you are having to force the handle up to lock the door it is likely to be a Re alignment issue, fixed from £35 locally.
