Amsoc

AMsoc is the University of Manchester's Official Society for students of BA (Hons) Management & Leisure.

AMsoc is the only official society for students of the BA (Hons) Management & Leisure degree program at The University Of Manchester.

We play an active role in organising social events for Management and Leisure students, oversee student representation and provide various other opportunities to those who wish to get more involved with their department.

A goal of the society this year is to improve the relationship between all three year groups, building on the current success of improvement in relationships between first year 2013 entrants and first year 2012 entrants. The Society will also provide a good place for alumni to connect. It is clearly of key interest to students to find out what UoM Management & Leisure graduates are doing with their lives five, ten or even twenty years down the line. We seek to open up more avenues for communication between the past and present students.

We will also support the University’s Peer Mentoring scheme from the Student as Partners department. In the medium to long term future, we plan to hold academic events with guest speakers.

Of course, being a student is also about meeting new people, trying new things and generally having a great time. We are already known for some of our fantastic socials and events and M& L students see this as a vital step to creating a more community feel in the degree programme.

A true highlight of the year is the annual Christmas Ball, a black-tie dinner / party at a fantastic festive venue. Students worked hard to make the 2013 Ball bigger and better than ever and with the support of the new society we hope 2014 will continue this great work.

This year’s committee is going to be exceedingly strong and we are always looking for new people to get involved. We are very keen to continue to keep the society open to all students and will be looking to fill both some existing and several newly-created roles throughout the year.

Whether your interest be in marketing, events, socials or just a pure interest in the subject, our society seeks to provide support for any students wanting to take a more active role in the degree program. Not only this, but it is also a great way to make friends, meet fellow students and engage with members of staff outside class.
