Liverpool Philharmonic has been celebrating In HarmonyŌĆÖs 10th birthday. In Harmony uses orchestral music making to improve the life chances of children in North Liverpool. Children there are making outstanding progress in developing their musical ability as individuals and as members of an orchestra with benefits to their health and well-being, and wider impacts on stronger family relationships, increased pride and aspirations in the community. To celebrate this big birthday,... In Harmony hosted a weekend of concerts which included 504 young musicians performing to over 4,380 people in the audience and 85,000 who streamed the concerts live. To top off their celebrations, young people from the project traveled down to London for a parliamentary reception which highlighted the fantastic work In Harmony Liverpool has done over the past 10 years and will continue to do.

The Cheltenham Paint Festival event, funded by Arts Council England has been a massive success for all involved - and a fantastic gift to the people/visitors of Cheltenham.

The mural painted at our venue, the Brewery Quarter has so far brought us what we hoped for and more. The artwork is stunning, it's been shared countless times on social media and has acted as a community focal point for random strangers to stop and admire/discuss the stunning works together.

Since Saturday I have spoken with so many people around the town - both young and old, rich and poor - who have said what a fantastic thing the Paint Festival is for Cheltenham. It has encouraged people to walk the town - possibly to places they wouldn't normally venture to, to admire the variety of styles and themes of artists they wouldn't normally choose to see or have the opportunity to see.

I've so far managed to see just a fraction of what has been done in the town, but everywhere I've been, people have been buzzing about it. It's such a brilliant way to bring the community together, to get people talking and create a true feeling of community spirit and pride. This is accessible art for everyone in all it's glory.

Massive heartfelt thanks to Andy Dice Davies and team for bringing this to Cheltenham. I feel really proud that this has been achieved in our town and hope that we can be part of another successful event next year.

I am trying to see if I am eligible and I've made a couple of phone calls to their offices plus send an email. They were fantastic and when I questioned whether I should apply or not the woman who answered the phone encouraged me to apply. The one who emailed me back send me masses of information regarding my query. Regardless of the outcome, I found them very helpful.

Arts Council England is one of the best arts institute which is not only a art's display center but also has huge projects in promoting of world's arts.

The racial diversity of British society has never been represented through its art, Inequalities are maintained by design and exist within universities, contemporary art galleries and the funding system, collectively these organisations maintain social inequality and racial separatism.

The Arts Council England is dominated by a white staffing structure that has created a skewed perspective of art, by disproportionately supporting white artists and white dominated organisations, this has created an unequal separately maintained Ethnic Minority Arts that is considered insignificant within mainstream art.

The distribution of public funding needs to be proportionate, as black people not only buy lottery tickets they pay taxes, minorities have an equal entitlement to public funds, employment and access to engage with and contribute to the development of art.

Internationally the British Council creates a skewed impression that the United Kingdom is racially inclusive, this passive form of racism invites international artists and curators from around the world to participate in a arts system that maintains social and racial separatism. This institutionally, and by association governmental maintained inequality has been manipulating our understanding of art / socio-economics and politics for a generation.

The overall National Portfolio Organisation/Sector Support Organisation budget for 2018 to 2022 is ┬Ż1.633 billion

┬Ż367 million of this is dedicated to Music - 22.4%

Of this 367 million:

┬Ż229 million goes to Opera - 62%

┬Ż87 million goes to Classical - 23%

┬Ż28 million goes to Contemporary Music (all genres of music, rock through to experimental electronic) - 7%

┬Ż9 million goes to mixed (generally mixed between classical, folk, jazz, opera, contemporary) - 2.5%

┬Ż4 million goes to World Music - 1%

┬Ż4 million goes to Jazz - 1%

┬Ż3 million goes to Folk - 0.8%

┬Ż2 million goes to Brass Bands - 0.5%

Of the ┬Ż28 million for Contemporary Music:

┬Ż14 million goes to North Music Trust (Sage Gateshead) - 50%.

┬Ż5 million goes to Education - 17.8%

┬Ż2.5 million goes to Festivals and Promoters - 8.9%

┬Ż1.5 million goes to Recording/Studios - 5.3%

In our application to protect, secure and improve grassroots music venues, which addressed the urgent needs of over 300 such venues across the UK, we asked that ACE enable us help those venues in areas such as planning, development, licensing, legal. We asked that they support those venues to develop alternative funding streams, and cut their running costs.

In response, Arts Council England told us:

ŌĆ£We decided that, taking into account the quality and level of sector support provision available in your area and nationally, we preferred other applicationsŌĆØ.

In this article, Darren Henley, the ACE chief executive, pledges:

ŌĆ£We are acutely aware of the challenges faced by music venues across the country and will continue to look at ways to work strategically with the sector to address them.ŌĆØ

Our three simple questions to Darren:

1. Who is going to do it?

2. What are they going to do?

3. When are they going to do it?

Because we assure you it can be done for less than 10% of the money ACE just awarded to the Royal Opera House, and as far as we are aware, that's not threatened with closure.

The recent National Portfolio funding round has served to reinforce Jonny Riggs point below. Many of the same organisations were funded again, many of these are the most wealthy and consequently the most capable of completing the application process. Poorer areas of the country were overlooked and smaller organisations, especially Museums whose remit is not arts based were not funded. This style of funding is killing diversity in the Museum sector.

Incredibly unhelpful, offered no advice whatsoever, no one to speak to face to face, a very poorly worded e mail reply to me almost stopped me continuing my research project mid way & knocked my confidence massively; but I refuse to let adversity hold me back so I never submitted my application; instead getting loans out and relying on family and friends to fund my first time project... and I succeeded and achieved my goals. All by myself.
