We had another delicious family meal here on Easter Monday as part of the celebrations for our eldest son's birthday.

Food, service, cleanliness and the extras for our sons birthday were all to a high standard as per usual.

We booked online for my partner's birthday - just a table for 3. We arrived to find they had decorated the table, which was a lovely touch. The food was delicious, my steak was cooked perfectly! We had starters and mains, but didn't have room for sweet! The staff were friendly and attentive. Thanks very much for a lovely evening Hannah, Reece (sorry got your name wrong on Trip Adviser) and the lovely chap behind the bar who's name I didn't catch x

This is my 'go to' place when I want a nice meal in a well presented place. It's standard pub food menu, but if a higher quality than most. The food and service and consistently good.

The food was fantastic but the staff really made it for me. The pub was busy but they couldn’t have been more attentive or more helpful. What a great place and I’ll Defo return!

News Years Eve party at the Axe & Cleaver Dunham Massey was just so good, the food, the service, the entertainment, complementary glass of fizz, it was all super, thanks to Gillian and her staff it all went very well, thankyou for sorting out the special dietary meal with no fuss, Mike P

Lovely food, lovely feel to the place, lovely staff, great selection of drinks and all reasonably well priced, we love this place and visit when ever we can, 2 young kids are no bother to the staff either as they make us feel at home. I advise booking in advance though so you aren't disappointed, back again soon! 👍

I've been to the Axe and Cleaver several times with my father. He has dementia, but he remembers this place, and he really likes the food. He feels relaxed and comfortable there which is so important for him, and for me to. The food is good, as is the service. I really need to give a special mention to Lesley. She is fabulous and is so patient with my dad and takes the time to talk to him, and looks after my table if ever I have to leave it to help my father. She goes the extra mile, and is lovely. A real credit. Thank you Lesley!

Brilliant place

We`ed booked for New Years eve, party of four, Unfortunately due to illness it finished up a party of three on the night.

Food was it`s usual high standard & service was great as per too.

Came to pay the bill and they owed us money! They refunded the missing party members money...we didn`t ask, they just did it, really nice touch from excellent staff at a great venue. Not our first visit and certainly not our last.

Absolutely lovely meal with my mum!! Food cooked lovely and served hot!! Very fresh and all the staff are very helpful and friendly this was a lovely little Facebook win but I will definitely be returning.

The food was really nice and a good size meal cooked beautifully .....the only thing I would say is ...mine could of done with being a little hotter than it was other than that no complaints and will go again ....the staff were very friendly as well x

Italian platter was lovely. The ravioli that came as part of the platter was delicious. The bar service was a bit slow, really because there was only one person serving. Told there was a 30 minute wait for food. Received it in 10-15 mins. Veggie burger was very tasty, and no problem to change chips for a side salad. Overall very good. I'll go again.

For the location & on a lovely summer day, expected it to be busier.

Outside was in need of attention. None of the (utilised) empty tables has been wiped down, chairs all over the place & plenty of bird droppings on chairs & tables.

We both had a salad ... but for £13.50 + additional charge for a very slender piece of salmon it’s overpriced, plus part of my ‘warm’ salad was missing.

The interior is jam packed tables... most annoyingly right in front of the bar. So If you plan on eating, make sure you book and request a table away from that area.

Will I visit again? Possibly, but will look elsewhere first.

A well presented place for a group of 12 to enjoy a late Sunday lunch for a birthday celebration.



The menu gave lots of option but the Beef Roast Dinner was the winner. Others in the group selected various other options and seemed to find their choices tasty.



My score would have been more if it wasn't for the volume of gristle that made a sizeable serving of the beef inedible. There was also a distinct lack of veg on the plate that was well hidden under the large Yorkshire Pudding. I was not alone with the same view with a fellow member of the group noticing the same issues.



At £11, I thought that it was certainly not value for money.



It certainly hasn't put me off going again. The staff were very pleasant and the surroundings of a high standard.
