We are Todmordens only open artisan bakery. Our bread is grown using the finest flour, water, salt and yeast and a whole lot of time, love and patience.

It's nice to try other bakers wares and today we took a trip up to Hebden Bridge to try one of Blue Sky Baker famous jam doughnuts and we were not disappointed. Mr Baker is the doughnut expert and he was well impressed and I've got type one diabetes so I only had a wee nibble but oh myy! If you get the chance get to Hebden bridge and give them a try!

Every day I'm waking up a little bit more excited because we are getting the little bit closer to coming to a high street near you!! 4 years ago I couldn't bake for toffee, the bread I use to bake we would call duck sinkers because it was that hard we wouldn't dare feed it to the birds, this one time I baked some, left it on the side for my husband to try after work and he thought it was a potato.
I then went to collage to learn some skills and practised every day, we ate so... much bread during those days and then I started learning the science behind it all. For months I would just bake the same bread over and over until I knew it inside out and back to front until I understood why it was acting how it was acting...The art and science of baking bread is a wonderful thing....
Anyway from there I did some months at a bake house in the valley, I loved it but I had no input on the bread and the methods and why should I? I was just another member of staff in training. I learned so much in those months and was heartbroken when I had to leave.
I realised I wanted my own bake house selling my bread done my way because everyone who tasted it wanted more, the feedback was overwhelming, I kept getting asked why I wasn't selling what I was baking. I started off baking for one friend and then two and before I knew it my whole Sunday was taken up baking bread for friends and I loved it...If anything in life was my calling this was it. Do I have 40+ years experience? Do I heck! But I have seen some terrible bread made by 40+ years experienced bakers and when you look at the new generation of bakers like Pollen in Manchester or Baltic in Liverpool it just fills my heart with joy and makes me realise I am on the right path.
What I do have is fresh ideas and the natural talent to make good bread with a willingness to keep on learning and adapting plus I want to bring it to Todmorden first! We'd like to welcome a new business that is open today in our town called Wonderfully Made and it is full of the most beautiful, talented items made by local artisans. I got myself a little Mizzle Comic badge and my eye on a few more items and Clare Ashton your lamps are amazing and one day they will light up my home. I want to say a huge thank you to Joanne and Rik up at Todmorden Unitarian for being open during our unsocial hours and putting up with us stinking the place out with the smell of baked goods and just being awesome! If you are looking to hire space out I'd highly recommend hiring the building. The always fabulous Stella at Legacy Arts Art Gallery and Studio for all her support and for creating a space for us and opening late and for so much more. Of course I'd also like t...o thank you lot! Without you and your support and feedback I wouldn't have been brave enough to take the next step. You have shown me there is a demand in our town and beyond for good, fresh, premium baked goods. Thank you, we are both very humbled and excited, we can't wait for the next chapter to start!

Good news is always better shared and today we found out that we have been permitted planning permission for the unit that we are going to be putting our bakery. So we will be coming very soon!! You better watch this space. On a more serious note it's been a long road getting from there to here and it's not over yet but the amount of support that we have had getting here as been tremendous it's warmed our dark little hearts and we can't thank everyone enough....Anyway here is a photo of some tomato and basil focaccia which you'll be able to get from our pre launch pop up on Friday which start at 4pm and finishes at 7pm

One thing that a lot of people talk about when they taste my bread is that the texture is almost like crumpet, so I thought I'd share a close up and personal crumb shot. Most people are all about the crust, yes there is something beautiful about a dark, rich crust but for me it's all about the crumb. A perfect crumb isn't about how holey it is, yes holey bread looks stunning but the filling falls though and you end up with most of it on your top or in your top true story! It's about the ability to make a good sandwich or it not falling apart with soup, our bread ticks both of those boxes and I can't wait for you to try it.

Todmorden Unitarian is hosting its first ever wedding fayre, How exciting is that!! It's going to be the place to be this Sunday if you are planning on getting wed.
