Friday 7th September 2018
Day trip down to Hancock Marine Services in Axminster, Devon with the bell tents for cleaning and re-proofing, plus a couple of bell tent carpets which needed a clean. Lovely trip which I always look forward to and enjoy at the end of the season. I take the scenic route down the A338 over the downs, past Winton Windmill then onto the the A303 past Stonehenge which we crawled past as the traffic was very heavy - but it allowed a chance to take a couple of photos! Close to Axminster is Forde Abbey - amazing flower gardens and a wonderful walled vegetable garden. Can't drive 130 miles and not go to the coast - this time instead of Seaton and Beer I went to Lyme Regis for fish 'n' chips on the Cob. Yum!

Now that the camping season is over the local fishermen can fish from the campsite again.

Barefoot Canoes leave the campsite for winter storage. Thanks for the use of your canoes Mark and Jed.

Thankful for warm, hazy sunshine and a gentle breeze today as I dismantled the bell tents: Canvas tops bagged up and ready to take to Hancock Marine Services in Devon for cleaning and re-proofing; groundsheets washed, folded and stored ready for next summer. Tomorrows jobs: Clean the pegs; wash the guy ropes (which have to be removed before the bell tents can be cleaned); clean the wood burners, flues and Bonfire Camp Kitchen grills and chains. Hoping it will be another sunny day!

#Islastones 'Found' on the campsite near the canoes - but when I went back to pick it up after cleaning the canoes it was gone so hopefully it was found by someone else and will be photographed, posted on Facebook and re-hidden!

26th August 2018 was definitely a wet Bank Holiday Sunday - but the rain stopped eventually and cleared for a lovely still - an surprisingly warm - evening of sitting round campfires along with a fabulous view of a blood read August moon! Thanks to Junko and John for bringing and setting up the telescope :)

Mostly a day of sunshine and a bright golden moon.

Friday 24th August - last Friday check-in of 2018
Some quite changeable weather today - well it wouldn't be a Bank Holiday weekend without some rain! But the early evening colours can be magical and the moon and stars eventually shone through.

Bell Tent linen laundry day!

Lost Property - found on the campsite in July & August 2018 (Some items look as if they may have been lost in 2017!)
If you recognise anything please let me know (even if you don't want it back then I can dispose of it)

Lovely morning for a walk or a paddle along the Thames.

Ready for a Barefoot paddle!

What an amazing camp site! Friendly people and great facilities! Very close to the river so you can swim whenever you want, all facilities are within close walking distance. Canoes available for renting. Can't wait to get the chance to go back! Thank you Cathy for making me feel welcome x

User

We had an amazing weekend in the log pods - 4 mums and our 6 year olds - swinging on the rope swing, accidental swimming (and subsequent hot shower!), canoeing adventure, walking to and from the pub in the late evening sunshine, marshmallows on the fire - magical memories!

User

This camp site is brilliant for back to basics camping. We went with two dads and two boys and had an excellent weekend. It was my son's first camping trip at 2.5 years old and I was so glad he got to experience all the country side has to offer in a safe and friendly place. Cathy is a really welcoming and helpful campsite manager. My son and I are looking forward to going back.

User

The best campsite I have ever experienced - the location, hostess and facilities are 5 star!

User

Our favourite campsite! Real fires, wild swimming, canoe fun, beautiful countryside, fab pub grub nearby, stunning setting, amazing sunsets and fantastic host. What more could you ask for? Fairly rustic camping in terms of facilities, but that's what we love. Not over crowded either. Can't recommend this campsite enough.

User

My new favourite campsite. Highly accessible wild swimming, camp fires, incredibly friendly and patient owner, comprehensive recycling facilities, uncrowded beautiful site and no cars on the camp site. Fantasy camping.

User

Just the best campsite - a true example to all the others about how to run a sustainable and eco friendly camping experience, not to mention the amazingly friendly and lovely Cathie. I hope this campsite will become home from home for us with many future visits planned!

User

Just idyllic. So chilled out.

User

Just back, tired but happy, from our first trip to the Barefoot Campsite. A wonderful experience from start to finish. Excellent staff to greet us (is it just me or are they getting younger and younger?!) Everything was explained very clearly and we had been allocated what seemed to us to be the best spot of the lot right next to the swimming area. Clean, well spaced plots, campfires allowed, beautiful countryside and the air ringin with the excited squeals of children and the laughter of adults. Stunning spot on the Thames for a much needed refreshing swim, basic facilities but all added to the chilled out vibe. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be booking again! Many thanks to Cathy and her marvellous team of munchkins!

User

I don't really want to leave a review - because someone might read it and find out about our best camping secret!

User

Fantastic weekend, amazing location, great friends and a superb host...this campsite has it all. Wild swimming, canoeing, camp fires, great walks and local pubs...can't recommend it enough.

User

Fabulous campsite & what surroundings! Deep in the countryside yet just 15 minutes from Oxford. An historic lock next door & all the fun we had a s children of the 70s. Rope swing, canoes, wildlife. This site really does cater for everyone

User

Excellent time had as always! For us the perfect camping experience, great vibe and warm welcome. 6 years of returning says something! Well done Cathie!

User

Brilliant place.

User

Brilliant campsite! It's a great location: right next to the Thames for river swimming and canoeing (enjoyed by adults, children and dog). It also has some excellent trees for climbing and den building, essential ingredients for my 8 year old. As it's on the Thames Path, we decided to walk from Longworth to the campsite which added an extra element of adventure. They say it's 'back to basics' but it has everything you could need for a few night's camping and anything it doesn't have can be bought from the local village shop. Everything is organised very well by Cathie including communication before arrival, lots of space between pitches, suggestions for where to put tents to get the best sunset views, spotless toilets, very well maintained site etc etc. I suspect we will be joining those campers who return year after year! Thanks for a lovely weekend.

User

Brilliant campsite right next to Thames. Excellent for swimming and launching canoe/SUP. Owner does not pack people in. Fall asleep to white noise of Northmoor Weir! Compost toilets and maximum waste recycling. No cars allowed on site so goods have to be transferred by wheelbarrows provided. Short walk/cycle to local pub and excellent community shop in Appleton. Open fires allowed! - pity about smell of folks frying animal parts. All in all, an excellent site.

User

Amazing site! Just what we needed for a couple of child free nights away :-)

Very impressed with the composting loos....never used them before and was expecting them to stink....far from it!!

Thank you

User

Amazing find of a campsite! Beautiful location on the river with wild swimming and Canadian canoeing available. Great eco friendly facilities with compost loos and the best recycling facilities I have ever seen on a campsite! Just fab!

User

Absolutely brilliant campsite, our second time here and we've had one of the best weekends ever, couldn't ask for a better spot, with river swimming, lovely neighbours, fantastic organisation from the lovely Cathie, fantastic shower, toilets, recycling and plenty of space. We'll be back!
