Blackpool'S Treasure Trove

Blackpool treasure trove is a two year project exploring Blackpool's entertainment industry from 1950 to the present day.

Blackpool’s Treasure Trove is a two year project which aims to bring people together by exploring Blackpool’s entertainment industry from 1950s to the present day. We want to discover the stories of local people and link them to the fabulous Blackpool collections, such as the Tower, The Grand, The Winter Gardens and the Cyril Critchlow Collection. The entertainment industry has been pivotal in allowing Blackpool to remain one of the most popular seaside resorts, which over the years has attracted many big stars. This project enables Blackpool residents to engage with and investigate the entertainment heritage, and bring it to life!

We are currently working with three adult community groups, collaborating with creative professionals. Our professionals aid in the exploration of the collections available to the groups, as well as establishing and developing ideas. This will result in something wonderful, sustainable and educational that can be enjoyed by others for years to come – a pop up museum. The pop up museums will provide a platform to show case some of Blackpool’s wonderful hidden treasures. The groups also have the opportunity to visit local places of interest, museums and historic sites, with the chance to receive training throughout the project with accredited learning.

Last year, the Treasure Trove project was completed with young people’s groups. Please look through our blog archives to see the fantastic pop up museums created by these groups. We are currently in the process of creating resources for schools to accompany these wonderfully interactive and educational pieces.
