Are e-vehicles a lot more expensive than petrol or diesel models?
The main reason preventing people from switching to e-vehicles is their higher purchase price but people forget to factor in their significantly lower running costs and the government plug-in grants available.

Take the Volkswagen e-Golf as an example: The government plug-in grant brings the price down to £28,690. Ok that’s still £6,625 more expensive than the comparable diesel Golf SE 1.6 Navigation (£22,065) but the e-cars running costs are far cheaper.
Based on 8,000 miles a year, in an average 3 years ownership period, you’ll spend around £2,475 on fuel for the diesel Golf but only £480 on charging the e-Golf. If your annual mileage is greater, then these cost savings dramatically increase. There's also no car tax on the e-Golf but it's £420 on the diesel!
The higher purchase costs of e-vehicles will continue to fall. Renault predicts that by 2020, it will be selling electric cars for the same price as petrol and diesel models, as the cost of their batteries reduces due to technological advances.
