About British Music Experience

The history of British music comes to life at the British Music Experience.

British Music Experience Description

The British Music Experience tells the story of British Music through costumes, instruments, performance and memorabilia.

We’ve got outfits worn by artists from David Bowie to the X Factor finalists, musical instruments from Noel Gallagher to the Sex Pistols and memorabilia from the Beatles through to Adele. You can also try the vocal booth, dance the decades or play top guitars and drums.

Whatever age you are, and whatever you are into, there is something here for you.

On this day in 1987, David Bowie kicked of the North American leg of The Glass Spider Tour at the Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia.
The tour's set, described at the time as "the largest touring set ever," was designed to look like a giant spider. It was over 18.3m high and 19.5m wide.

What a fantastic experience. A must for all music lovers young and old. Extremely interactive and just so much to see and listen to. Give yourself 2 to 3 hours if you want to take it all in. Worth every penny of the entrance fee.

User

What a fabulous centre in one of the greatest cities for pop music. We enjoyed over two hours of pure pleasure and I had a great conversation with the flame-haired Gibson guy. Highly recommended to all, whether musician or listener.

We went to the British Music Experience when it was at the 02 in London, we went again yesterday it was great before its amazing now, the exhibits, the lay out, the area where you get to play instruments, but the best bit was the staff, all of them polite and friendly from the moment you entered to the people in the cafe. Great for kids too, in a word quality!

We visited yesterday with our four year old daughter and we had a fantastic time! The staff were all incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming, they couldn’t do enough for us! Our daughter had a brilliant time especially playing on the musical instruments and the staff in this area went out of their way to help her out. Even down to the staff in the cafe and the gift shop, everyone was keen to see we enjoyed our experience. We will definitely be making plans to come back to Liverpool and the BME will be top of the list to come back to! Thank you all so much for giving us a day to remember!

We visited today as I thought it might while away a couple of hours before the Roger Waters concert tonight. Four hours later we were still there. It's a great place with some wonderful exhibits, and even instruments you can get your hands on and practice playing (very badly!). Highly recommended for all music lovers.

User

We really enjoyed our visit earlier today, excellent variety of memorabilia on display which was further enhanced by the music and lighting effects. It is definitely an 'experience' as opposed to a 'museum' as many of the areas have interactive elements and even our 10 year old had an amazing time, especially in the dance studio and playing on the electric drum kit at the end. The staff were so friendly and knowledgable, a real credit to the venue and the city.

We had a brilliant time at the BME yesterday! The holographic performance by Boy George was fantastic. The memorabilia was enjoyed by all ages in our party. It's a great collection which I hope grows and becomes even richer in the future. The museum staff were incredible, so helpful and professional, they are an absolute credit. I would definitely recommend a visit to this great place. Being able to sing in the sound booths, and try drumming and various guitars was wonderful. Very fairly priced experience, also if you book online you get the use of the guide headphones for free. Go and see it.

User

Took my son and his friends for his 14th birthday. Fantastic place, brilliant staff and a huge highlight when they got to play a few songs live! Would highly recommend it for a great day out.

User

The BME was the perfect way to spend a couple of hours on a rainy afternoon with friends. We sang, we danced, we learnt the drums (sort of!) Would highly recommend for all music fans, young & not so young!

User

I went with my daughter and a lady she supports with Alzheimer's to the Liverpool site. we found the staff very friendly and helpful, the exhibits interesting and the interactive parts good fun!! If you love music through the ages then give it a go. We also used the cafe which was very good.

User

Had an amazing visit here. Staff super friendly and want you to have a great time. Expected to spend about an hour and a half here but was a good 3 hours and could have stayed longer had we not had another place to get to. Awesome place.

User

Had a fab morning here , lots of information from all music over the decades, staff very helpful and friendly, was asked on arrival if we qualified for any discount ( nhs, military etc)not many places ask that, lived the recording studio and the instrument tutorial. Minor complaint .... could do with stools at visual stations, lived the hologram of Boy George....

User

Great place, lots to see and very helpful and friendly staff. As we have two music obsessed girls they spent hours on the drums and guitars taking a break to watch the staff do a live acoustic set in the cafe. 5 hours there and both wanted to go back again the next day. Would recommend to anyone!

User

Fantastic, worth every penny. We spent over 3 hours in here yesterday and we all enjoyed every moment from start to finish. The staff were so Love and helpful.. the staff band even performed a few songs in the cafe which were very good! I sang a few songs, played the guitar and even had the opportunity to play the drums, all of which I was able to send the piece of music to my email address. I can’t wait to come back! Absolutely excellent!

Came for a day visit along with family. Never been to Liverpool but found BME to be an inspirational visit. Very good value for money as you can use your ticket all day, going out and coming back in again up to closing time. So many things to see from handwritten lyrics, costumes, instruments and much more besides. Lockers provided FOC to store bags so you don't have to carry them around with you. Loved the hologram effect of Boy George singing in the main area. Small cafe offering sandwiches tea and cake. We were lucky to catch the BME band singing Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles and Amy Winehouse. They were brilliant and showed the true spirit of music in and around the city. Well done to the band.

They must have inspired our group as we spent the next hour and half in the Gibson interactive studio on guitars, drums, keyboard and vocal booth. Brilliant time. Don't forget the dance studio where you can dance along with the interactive performer and record all your moves!!

An absolutely brilliant day was had by our group and we have promised ourselves to go back. Fantastic welcome by the staff who are very friendly and helpful over anything you want to know.

User

A superb collection on memorabilia in a fabulous setting, the interactive displays were laid out wonderfully and the dance room and music room were tremendous fun. We all had a great time and look forward to returning with our year long residents passes very soon.

User

I enjoyed the the day we had there yesterday. Spent a good few hours watching and learning lots to do with the music. As we had there generation of the family there we all enjoyed the era's that we grew up with. My mum the 50's and 60's. Me the 70's, 80's and 90's. And my children the 90's and 00's. A great time was had by all. And to top it of in the cafe the house band played while we enjoyed a coffee and hot chocolate. Brilliant time. And the staff we helpful and professional

User

Fantastic experience. Well worth a visit. Great displays and lots to see.......but !

Why no RADIOHEAD display? One of the most influential British bands of all time and yet there is virtually nothing about them. NME called them the 21st century Beatles. Disappointing omission in an otherwise excellent visit.

User

British music history is so rich and this museum does not show it at it’s best. The electronic displays are difficult to maneuver. The lighting needs improvement. When the large screen is showing a music video one cannot hear any other display. One is forced to wait it out to continue one’s chosen activity. There is not enough seating in front of displays offering a lot of information. Please borrow a page in display and presentation from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the USA. Britain has excellent music history!
